After walking up and down the waterfront, looking at various menus of other restaurants,we chose the Franciscan. Great views, food and staff. Our waitress, Laurie was terrific in making our dinner the best. Will definitely return.

Just pretty appalling. The waitress was diabolical - rude, condescending and lacked the subtlety to disguise the fact that she would have rather been elsewhere. We were rushed through our meal at a rate of knots, we had barely finished before plates were whisked away. I thought things couldn't get worse until we were foolish enough to try dessert, strawberry cheesecake which was still frozen in the middle. So bad and to add insult to injury - it all came with a hefty price tag. Please don't go.

Heard this was one of the best restaurants in the with the best views. The views were no doubt spectacular the food and service was lousy. Food all came out freezing cold and nothing tasted great.

Great view, the binoculars next to the table was a nice touch. The hostess staff were very accommodating. The food was better than just good but not great: we all felt it was overpriced. The service was sparse and the server seemed disinterested.

This restaurant reads like its a fabulous place to dine. It was the worst food. There were 10 of us and the bill was 600.00 of nothing but a waste of money. The entire party of 10 was so disappointed we couldn't believe it. How can you charge these type of prices and feel like the food you serve is worthy?

Horrible service. We were complete ignored until we finally complained to the manager. Waiter never apologized, but did become more attentive. Clam chowder really had no clams in it, however the whole crab was good.

I love going here. We always have wonderful seafood. There was five of us this time. Three out of towners. The crab was delicious as always. The server could have been more attentive. We often had to hunt him down to order another drink or get something.

The food is excellent. However, the place is over crowded and they do not honor reservation. We arrived on time of our reservation and we had to wait for 30 minutes. The head waiter came to the table one time to take the orders then we have to deal with the busboy. Noise level very high and full of Childers running around the tables. It is great sea food sanfransico restaurant that is recommended for one time dinning only.

The service was average, I had to ask for water, menu, ordering multiple times. The worst was getting a parking validation and going to the machine realizing it wasn't validated. Then I had to go to the operator at a booth, who told me to go to a machine. I had to go back to the operator, had him press buttons at the booth, then take it to an automatic booth for payment. The ticket was suppose to be $20 cheaper for the 2 hours that were free parking, however I didn't get the discount with the parking lot.

Very grateful for the app. Was able to get a reservation sooner than waiting in the door line. Very packed, not intimate, but food was good. Lived up to San Fran name! I would go back at a not so busy time of year.

I had the Crab Chowder which was luke warm, My wife had the Garlic clams were average. My grandson, 8 had the Filet Mingon and French fries were unavailable, but they have fish and chips. What are the Chips? Great view of San Francisco bay with binoculars provided. Pretty expensive for the quality of food and average service. I was told they used to announce the ships passing with their name and where they had traveled from or their destination, They don't do that any more. We were seated by the servers sub station for bread and table setting supplies, dishes etc. which was next to our oceanfront table. You would think that they wouldn't ruin the ambience putting that right next to one of their nicest tables. This could be an outstanding experience as it has one of the nicest views of any restaurant near Fisherman's Wharf. The reservation process from Open Table worked perfectly and were seated immediately.

On a recent family trip to San Francisco I booked The Franciscan Crab for our party of five which included three kids ranging from two years to fifteen with a ten year old in the middle. It was a bustling day at the Wharf and not a parking spot was to be found. We drove around for the better part of an hour looking. When we finally found a spot it might as well have been in New York it was so far away. Earlier on we had called the restaurant to assure them that we were still coming, they were gracious and told us they would hold our reservation! Upon our late arrival, remarkably, they were able to seat us right away in a waterfront table tucked away in the far corner availing us a wonderful view of the bay and Alcatraz. The retro interior that had obviously been updated in recent years was light and fresh. We opted to share a platter of shrimp and crab legs along with a wedge salad and deep fried pearl onions. This being my kids first time trying crab, it was a fun experience to crack the crabs and dip in the decadent melted butter. It was delicious. Our two year old was not in a pleasant mood so we had to deal with multiple shrieks of protest. Not wanting to ruin other diner's experience, my husband took him outside in the stroller and walked him along the pier just outside the restaurant while me and the other kids enjoyed the food. During this whole struggle, the busboys were kind and helpful, our waitress however was quite dreadful. She was curt and not sympathetic to our situation. Traveling is tough even on the most seasoned of travelers. It was obvious we were having a hard time and all she did was add to the situation. The busboys were more attentive than our server and much more polite. The only reason I left a tip was for the kitchen and busboys. I really wish that I could have tipped them directly. I think this gal who chose the wrong profession or at the very least, perhaps she ought to work somewhere like Denney's with an older demographic.

Not fine dining, but if you find yourself on Fisherman's Wharf and you're hankering for Dungeness crab, this is an excellent option. The wait staff hustles and do a respectable job, and the view of the bay and Alcatraz are quite nice.
