I’ve been here twice now and only eaten the tasting menu, an option Copas and chef Julio do on thurs/fri. Incredible experience both times, getting different, creative dishes like a Dungeness crab taco and a brisket mole. The price point of the menu and the bev pairing, done by Erica, are fantastic. For the quality-to-deal ratio, this is prob the best in the city. I’ve been to californios, a two star spot and many of the dishes here at Copas would fit seamlessly in there if not outshine them. Chef and Erica are wonderful to chat to and have a o-so obvious talent and love for their crafts. There’s zero doubt I will return for a third time

I came for the mussels, but they were no longer on the menu. I've added photos of the current menu (as of March 20, 2024).I pivoted from the mussels to the oysters. Most excellent. I should have had a dozen and called it a night. But I also ordered the camarones (skewered BBQ shrimp) to finish my seafood fix.I had a great server, who paired the Nikolaihof Gruner white wine with the camarones. Nice suggestion.Be aware that the house adds an 18% surcharge, even for a single diner. The surcharge covers all employees. I increased the tip so that my server was well compensated for his outstanding service. His name is Ullissess B.I will be visiting again when I return to the Castro District next month.

It’s overpriced for what you get. Interesting they serve a burrito in a basket like a fast food taco place. Drinks overpriced as well as the food. $150 for 3 is a bit much for 3 burritos 3 cocktails and an

There is so much to say about this place but first things firstIt's not Mexican foodIt's not Tex Mex foodIt's not Cali Mex foodIt's not bad but it's not good either. So before going into the details of the food let's start with the place. Some of you might remember the fabulous times of 2223 which took place at this location. Well the inside still resembles it but that's as far as I would go.We went there for dinner on a Friday evening. The lighting in the restaurant is way too bright for an evening dinner and resembles more of a taqueria eatery. The background music was in the foreground and doing a good job in preventing conversations from flourishing.Regardless let's talk about the food. We ordered 3 appetizers and two main courses.I was pretty surprised that all dishes came out at the same time pilling up the table like a student cantina. The guacamole was nice tasting but rather small and served with bread in addition to the tortilla chips. A bit strange for my taste. The octopus suffered as it got killed twice. First in the fishing net and then it drowned in a thick sweet mole. To me that's sad as it removes the taste from the octopus.Next up the fish tacos, yes they were big and fat in proportion but lacked flavour. My friends ordered a burrito to share. Again kudos to the restaurant the burrito was huge and it looked like one would gain two pounds just by looking at it. Flavor aside it just didn't look appetizing and should either not be on the menu or presented in a way that looks like dinner fare .So we progressed through dinner and at 9:30 pm the staff decided to open the front door and leave it open to remind the guest that it was time to leave. On a cold rainy SF evening, chilling down the entire restaurant is an insult. It tells me that the owner has no intention to stay in business and doesn't care about his guest.Shame on you guys

We did the blindfolded dinner here. Organized by the Fever organization. It was a fun experience. Not sure if the food or the service was typically for a normal dinner at Copas. So this review might not be relevant for that. But for the blindfolded dinner experience. It was 5 stars across.

Food was incredible. Fish taco, al pastor burrito & even the chips and salsa (love the tatemada salsa!) were slam dunks.

Ahi tuna tostadas were amazing, micro greens on top. Loved the potatoes with the smoked Gouda queso. The guacamole was fresh and came with amazing buttered bread but some herb I didn't care for and not normally in guacamole. Avoid the extremely tart hibiscus lemonade and over fried fish tacos.

The food is great. I have the chicken burrito and my husband had the fish tacos. With a draft beer and margarita, finished with a Carajillo. The staff is great. The drinks were very good.

Hosted our 1 year old's birthday party with our friends (large group of size 18) at this restaurant. Couldn't recommend it any higher! The staff and the owner are extremely welcoming and accommodating. The food and drinks were delicious and they went out of their way to meet vegetarian and kid food preferences. Truly an awesome experience and grateful for their hospitality!

We went on a Sunday and sat at the bar to watch the Bills game. The female assistant manager saw that we were watching and changed the channel to the 49 game. When the kind bartender asked the manager to change it back to the Bills game she started to yell around the restaurant that this is a 49 restaurant, and she has to watch every Sunday and she’s the assistant manager. No patrons were there watching the game. It was on for the staff? A male manager came out and was able do a split screen but she already made us feel so uncomfortable we paid for our drinks and left. Will never be back and not recommend this restaurant to anyone. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

I’ll start with the positives:The smash burger was excellent and will likely be back for it.Negatives:We had the al pastor tacos: completely flavorless, no salt and too much guacamole heaped into the taco. I was kind of shocked and neither of us finished our plates.Churros: really not good. No density to the batter, tasted a little stale.Service: unfortunately, staff forgot about my drink and something else we ordered, had to be reminded twice. We were here on a quiet night, ambiance was nice. We had a warm welcome by the host too.

Wow what an amazing spot. Dinner and drinks were delicious and creative, our bartenders and servers were very accommodating and made us feel at home too. Returned for lunch and their chicken burrito is one of the best I've ever had. Looking forward to returning very soon.

Delicious Mexican inspired menu that reminds me of upscale meals I’ve had in Oaxaca or Mexico City. Exceeded my expectations and wasn’t a fight to get a reservation. Just what we need in the Castro!

I went to Copas for the first time this week and loved it. Such a good Castro spot. Food is delish (quite creative with unexpected twists on Mexican classics), drinks are great, and service was super friendly. More people should know about Copas!!
