Please try this restaurant. I was visiting SF with my husband while he took the State BAR, and after a long, taxing day of testing, we found Gentilly and it breathed life back into him. We ordered the Cajun pasta and the dish with the pulled pork, ribs, and mac. Outstanding food. Ribs slipped off the bone. They have a nice selection of non-alcoholic craft sodas, plus lots of awesome cocktails...which I ordered the second night because we HAD to go back! The first night we ate in the back room and another table was doing a murder mystery which was really cool. We ate in the lounge on the second night and chatted with our server, Jessica - - super cool human being, so kind and engaging! Someone came in and the bartender new him by name, asked if he wanted his favorite thing, and put his program on the TV. It was so wholesome and made it feel homey. I genuinely want to visit this area of SF just to go back to Gentilly! This restaurant is obviously a passion project and I'm so happy places like this exist. My only complaint is that it's so far away from where I live! Then again if I lived close to Gentilly I'd probably gain a lot of weight, especially since they serve a brownie with ice cream and salted caramel. You'd be doing yourself a great disservice if you didn't try it!

Just before Christmas I was looking for a place to meet my cousins for cocktails that was (1) open Mondays, (2) not a sports bar, and (3) as close as possible to West Portal. This was shockingly hard to find. Gentilly was where we ended up going and it was AMAZING! Absolutely loved the very spacious yet cozy and comfy front bar area. Cocktails were A+. Appetizers were A+. Service was A+! Will return for sure.

Great location with delicious food. I enjoyed every second of my meal and will definitely return when I am back in the SF area.Highly recommend for people looking for a taste of New Orleans.Bam bam shrimp, crawfish pot pie,Maw maw's gumbo, red beans and rice, and beignets ... ARE ALL A MUST TRY.Do yourself a favor and come here on an empty stomach so that you can leave full and happy! Thanks for a great meal!

More like a 3.5 but I'll round up to 4 because the fried chicken was so good! I'm not going to lie I was a little disappointed with the Mac & cheese because it came out in a square shape, and it was kinda bland tasting. Also the gumbo threw me off too. I'm not sure if it was just because of the chef that night, but the pictures I saw made the gumbo look more thick and rich. However, the gumbo we got was dark brown and more on the watery side. I will say though, that the fries chicken really did it for me! It was perfectly crusted and came with a maple bacon spread on top that complemented the fried chicken really well. The actual meat inside was also juicy and not dry at all. Also, the crawfish pot pie was really good. The crawfish was juicy and not rubbery at all, and there was a nice flaky crisp to it even though it was also saucy. I definitely would come back for the pot pie and the fried chicken alone.

Love this place! Wonderful staff, great environment, music on Fridays. It's amazing to have a place like this down in the southern part of the city!

For Cajun place in San Fran, it's not bad, but being from Houston it's kind of hard to compare. This was a group dinner which again, given we're all from Houston didn't make a lot of sense to us.

Great food, nice atmosphere, and the service was wonderful. Bbq chicken for 2 was ridiculously good. Restaurant has a cool back story, and they survived opening during the pandemic. Definitely going

Friends rented out their patio space and it was such a wonderful event. The food and drinks were delicious. I had the mac and pulled pork and it was best I've ever had. I will definitely be back to try some more of the menu.
