Really lovely place. I loved the veggie coconut curry. Sooo delicious! Accompanied with their garly nan and the rice, it made it the perfect combination. The server was super nice, and all the staff were very kind. I loved the ambiance. The music was super relaxing and I loved the paintings. It felt like one of my trips to India. I'll definitely be back.

I love this place. the food and service is top tier. the food is so good. and they gave me rice with my leftovers which is clutch because the rice is godly + the deserts are really good . I recommend eating here . service people are friendly and helpful too

As another reviewer mentioned, they openly discriminate against women. If a woman pays for the meal, the waiter pointedly hands the payment back to the guy and only asks him repeatedly how the meal was. There were other instances where you could tell they were watching and talking about women customers from the kitchen, which made things uncomfortable for the whole group. If the food were good, I'd say you could still come with a group of guys. But it's not good (too much turmeric in everything, plus old sour raita.) They must know their food isn't good because there was so much concern about that. If you have a wife, a mother or god forbid, a tactfully breastfeeding family member, forget it. They will ignore half of your party, give condescending service, silently judge or ask your female relative to leave. Their behavior toward women customers is at best awkward and out of step with SF culture in 2024...at worst sexist, illegal and yes, reportable. Can't see them lasting long with their openly discriminatory attitude. No wonder the place is empty.

We haven't been here in years and decided to go here with a few friends after volleyball. We were not disappointed. The tandoori chicken was amazing as well as the shrimp saag. The service was also prompt and friendly.

Food was delicious including our various main dishes, naan, rice and dessert. Service was helpful and kind. The atmosphere was relaxed and pleasant with a fresh rose at the table and large windows for light in the restaurant.

Beautiful interior decor, relaxed ambiance, and extremely hospitable service. My guest and I were seated quickly, attended to regularly, and we were offered complimentary chai & dessert. The food here is delicious and prices are reasonable. I highly recommend their spicy Punjabi chicken curry, vegetable samosas, and garlic naan bread. Thank you for accommodating us, Indian Clay Oven Restaurant. We will be back again soon!

It was almost 36 years ago when I first decided to get into cooking Indian food. Naturally, since that time I've grown and improved as a cook, and at the same time have eaten Indian food in approximately 10 different countries. I recently moved back to San Francisco, and I was so pleased to discover the fabulous India Clay Oven Restaurant located on Clement street near 25th Avenue, just down the street from where I live. I ordered the Lamb Hyderabadi and the Aloo Gobi. There are numerous ways to prepare Aloo Gobi, and I certainly enjoyed this particular version. Hyderabadi Biryani or Hyderabadi Haleem are very specified dishes, where as Lamb Hyderabadi has greater flexibility. India Clay Oven's Hyderabadi was quite different from anything I've previously had, and that in itself was exciting; they use a light creamy yellow sauce that is nutty and fruity--really special. I like the fact that both dishes were well balanced in the salt content; too many restaurants (not just Indian) definitely over salt their food. I ordered a Taj Mahal beer and I was so pleased and impressed the waiter poured a bit, and then placed the bottle cap back on the bottle to preserve the carbonation. I do this exact thing at home; I've never seen anyone at any restaurant do this! Overall, the service was satisfactory, and I received two complimentary items. I will most assuredly be returning to India Clay Oven Restaurant; looking forward to trying their tandoori dishes next time.

The food here was great, everything we ordered tasted amazing. The restaurant itself is clean and beautiful. It was my first time trying this place and loved that they had many vegetarian options. The service was also quick and friendly. I will definitely be back.
