Best coq au vin! It's a great date night spot. My husband loves their duck and also loves the chicken liver salad. Lovely wines and everything is quite reasonably priced. The owners are always there and so kind.

This was a real gem. Inside this cozy , authentic French bistro , get brought right to Paris! We enjoyed authentic dishes, extremely attentive and charming service , and had a lovely dinner pre- Cirque de Soleil at Oracle Park. Tasty dinner and impeccable service. I'll schlep from Oakland to come again and again . Truly great experience .

Super delicious meal! The service was excellent and the atmosphere was very intimate and quiet. It felt like I had been transported to France. C'était magnifique ! I would recommend making a reservation, as it is quite a small restaurant.

Valentine’s Day Pre-fixe1. Lobster bisque - zero actual lobster in it2. Seafood risotto - Severely undercooked and the mussels had a terrible taste3. Apple tart tatin - Cooked in what tasted like spoiled oil$85My wife’s food was equally as bad, so I won’t share the details. All in all the meal was over 200, due to the wine we ordered. Not sure how this place has a 4.6. Save your time and money!

The food and service were excellent. I've spent much time in Paris and rarely see this much attentive service elsewhere. The water was always filled. Plates were removed promptly when each course was finished. Things never seemed rushed and never left us waiting. We had the duck confit (excellent!), the beef bourguignon (well served in a bread pastry), the trout (perfectly cooked with restrained seasoning) and the steak (you don't often see hanger steak at all let alone this well prepared. We also had a few apps that were excellent. The wine list was not overly extensive but was well thought out and did not have any poor choices. We really enjoyed ourselves and would comback again!

Excellent experience for dinner with friends to celebrate a birthday. The steak frites were amazing as were the prawns, risotto, floating island dessert, apple tarts, and beverages. We had a lovely time and the staff was great. We arrived early and were promptly seated and recommended drinks. Their corkage fee is very reasonable. Highly recommend.

Mathilde is a charming and lovely French bistro. Its menu features classic French bistro mains such as coq au vin (excellent), duck confit, and pan seared salmon. The night we were there, filet mignon au poivre was one of the evening's specials. Though we didn't order it, we saw it served at another table, and the customer seemed to be very pleased. Service is another strong point. Our server was friendly, efficient, and attentive. She guided one member of our party through the various items on the menu, and he was very pleased with her recommendations. Mathilde's wine game is strong. They offer a nice variety of reds and whites by the glass. While there are many options available by the bottle, the wine menu isn't so extensive that you feel lost (or intimidated). We were seated in the heated enclosed outdoor patio during one of SF's recent rainy winter evenings. We were comfortable and, critically, the patio covering held up in spite of the wind. Another benefit: The outdoor patio is relatively quiet, which makes it easier to carry on a conversation with your dining companion(s). The only thing about Mathilde that I'm not a fan of is its location. It can be a struggle to find parking, and let's face it, SF's Fifth Street isn't exactly like Fifth Avenue in NYC. But, Mathilde's food and charm more than makes up for the location.

We had an excellent dinner. We come here several times a year & each time we are glad we did. We had trout almondine & butter lettuce salad. Excellent. Highly recommend this restaurant & its sister restaurant, L'Ardoise.

So pleased to discover that the former bistro I once frequented when I worked in the area hasn't lost a step as Mathilde French Bistro. The escargot was perfect and the true charcuterie board was fantastic with the duck rillet and the saucisson d’ail being my favorites. The delicious plat du jour of perfectly cooked sea bass, shrimp, mussels mashed potatoes and saffron reduction was well executed and surprisingly light. Paired perfectly with a bottle of Sancerre. Finished off with an excellent mousse au chocolat. Will return for the cassoulet and profiteroles ????
