Don’t visit this place if you like mexican food.We used to visit Papitos pre pandemic and loved their chips and salsa and margaritas. Cut to March 2024 and the quality of food has gone down significantly. The tomatillo salsa was watered down and the mango salsa seemed to have straight from a preserved mango can with some sprinkle of spice. The ‘red’ salsa takes the cake though : the texture and taste reminded me of the tomato juice served on airplanes. We had also ordered hibiscus margarita, which was another reminder to stay away from this restaurant.

Okay ambiance, decent service but just way too expensive for a casual lunch spot. Food was decent but nothing to rave about, despite the steep prices

Papito Hayes in Hayes Valley, SF offers a decent Mexican dining experience. While some dishes were flavorful, others lacked depth. Overall, worth a visit for a casual Mexican meal.

It's always great vibes at Papito Mexican Restaurant! The real MVP here is the Baja fish taco, a mere $5 burst of flavor - the negra modelo batter, crispy rock cod, chipotle remoulade, and purple cabbage slaw are a taste bud celebration. But it's not just about the food; the bar hails good vibes, slanging outstanding margs. Despite the cozy space, the Hayes St. patio seating elevates the experience with infectious energy. Big shoutout to the awesome staff, especially Waitress Julia, who turns each visit into a lively fiesta, she's great at what she does. The trio salsa with chips is a perfect pairing with your meal, offering a medley of mild, sweet, tangy, and spicy - the full salsa spectrum. If you crave more heat, ask for a side of haberno salsa. Forget the standard - Papito delivers a one-of-a-kind experience. No pretentious labels here, just damn good fish tacos, lively vibes, and a crew that knows how to turn a meal into a memorable fiesta.

Awesome restaurant - the menu is elevated mexican, but isn’t white-washed flavour wise. Great service from the moment we walked in, can’t wait to go back!

Horrible service-- unattentive staff even though I noticed there were only two tables at the time Should be more attentive of guests instead of talking on the phone.

Walked down to the Hayes valley with some friends and was delighted to have some really flavorful mexican . Being vegetarian it was fabulous to have quesadillas and tacos with a number of vegetables. The flan was absolutely delicious. Can't wait to visit again :)

The atmosphere is comfortably modern! Their staff is quite welcoming. The tables are a bit too snugly set next to one another but that can't be helped. The food is great! You can't go wrong with the corn app or the guac! I also really enjoyed their carne asada quesadilla. When I return, I'm going for a burrito! They looked excellent!

Average overpriced $20 burrito. Not something I would go out of my way to get again but it did the job and filled me up.
