Pretty underwhelmed based on the reviews. Got an order of the meatloaf and the country fried steak. Mashed potatoes were decent(could've used more butter, but no complaints) and corn was delicious. The meatloaf was okay but a too peppery and a bit too dry. the steak was the real disappointment. it came with underseasoned gravy and there wasn't nearly enough seasoning in the breading. Since everything was to go, I can overlook the slight soggyness of the breading but it was just so bland all the way through.

Amazing, amazing bbq. If you've ever had bbq from the south, this is as close as you're going to get on the west coast. It's all authentic, even their desserts. Support this local restaurant - they do not disappoint at all!!

the food and vibes here are super hip!! there is almost a guaranteed weight but it is definitely worth it. I am so glad I stumbled upon this place while visiting San Francisco and wish they could open a location down in Los angeles. I tried the breakfast chicken biscuit and it was phenomenal, the textures were so crunchy and everything was seasoned to perfection! the gravy here is on point and I am so glad they are surviving through covid-19!!

Best BBQ I've had in CA. Ordered the large fried chicken family meal and a half rack of ribs. Easily enough for 4-5 people. The sides we very generous and everything was delicious. Rusty and his crew are awesome. Will be making the trek back to the city just for take out and can't wait until we can eat inside.

Two years after dining here, I was reminded of this disappointing experience. Don't make bold claims like best sweet tea in SF, when its marginal at best. Don't suggest a dish as the most food, when its half the size of another entree. as someone who spent 22 years in the Carolinas, San Franciscans, look elsewhere for proper Southern food.

Went with friends for brunch a while back Pre-COVID-19 and had a good time! The ambiance was nice a bit hipster but the brunch options were good and portions were generous! I recommend stopping by at least once since it's also a nice gem in the TL!

Second?trip in 2 days. The ?"taste" is?riveting. I want to make this ?clear: ever-eee-thing on the menu is humbly prepared, juiceeee and ???bursting with flavor .... Rusty Southern is on my radar??? call for curbside takeout....

The meatloaf dinner entree is very good and I got a taste of their barbecue sauce, which is superb and surprisingly hit all the right notes on my tastebuds (bbq sauce can sometimes can go to excess and lack balance in flavor but Rusty's is perfect). It's convinced me that I must try their Barbecue Plate next. Buttermilk biscuits and collard greens are top notch and must-try's. Truly a neighborhood institution!

Amazing food! Everything from the ribs to the mash potatoes. Some of the best southern food in the city! Can’t wait to go back.

The best fried chicken I've ever had. Just so delicious, crispy, tender, moist, flavorful. We ordered for takeout and the food was prepared in time, the owner could not be friendlier, and the food could not be delicious. I also had the Nashville hot chicken, which was so hot I had to take a break. I plan on sending them more business just so they stay open. Too many of my favorite places have closed recently which is sad. This has to stay open, the food was just too delicious.

Haven't had Rusty's in a while & decided to give their take-out a try. It was just as good as dine-in; everything we got was so good! Best fried chicken and mashed potatoes I've had in a while, smoked pork was super flavorful, delicious collard greens, creamy mac & cheese... I'm already thinking of what to get next time. Please support this fine establishment through the pandemic!

So good!! I'm from North Carolina and have lived in SF for 2 years, in which I've spent the WHOLE TIME complaining about how I can't find good BBQ. My friends were tired of the slander and they recommended Rusty's to me. MY PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED! I ordered the Nashville hot chicken plate, the bbq plate, and mac and cheese so my husband and I could get a good representation of Rusty's was all about. We were so pleased! The BBQ was outstanding; Rusty's really captured all the amazing flavors that Carolina pulled pork is all about. It was delicious! However, the hot chicken was the star of dinner. It was unforgettable! The sides were also great! The collards that came with the chicken plate tasted just like my grandma's, traditionally southern and obviously cooked with meat in the pot. The slaw that came with the BBQ plate was so good that even my BBQ and slaw snob husband gave it two thumbs up. We loved our food from Rusty's. It was absolutely a treat. I would happily order at least once a week so they can stay open through the pandemic!!

We arrived shortly before closing to be warmly welcomed. We placed our takeaway order for country fried steak and brisket. The food came quickly and was every bit as good as we hoped it would be.In sum, friendly, quick, and delicious. Go ASAP!
