Oh my GOODNESS this place did not disappoint. We had to make a reservation some 30 days in advance but it was well worth it.There’s something so easy about having a little plate brought around right to you and being able to say “Yes I want that right now please” and just being able to eat it immediately. Absolutely divine. And the flavors were just I N C R E D I B L E. Every dish had some many layers to it, it was just amazing.1000/10 would recommend!

update 3.24.25: service was disappointing. the waiter spilled water on my phone and food took a long time to come out. the table also smelled like kitchen supplies (request a seat away from the kitchen). dropping from 5 to 4 stars.one of the best restaurants i’ve been too! went here for my anniversary and they made us feel special with a personalized menu and treat at the end of the meal- great service, our waiter outlined everything that fit in our dietary restrictions or could be modified.for snacks, we got:- hog island oysters: loved the additions to the oyster but not a must try- pork belly: must get! crispy, fatty, seasoned!- brussel sprouts: really good! would get again- fried garlic bread with burrata and five spice: liked this but wouldn’t get again. a little too salty- persimmon in a sauce (don’t remember the name): good palate cleanser for the rest of the savory dishes. pop of freshness and also liked the inventive use of the fruit- duck liver mousse & financiers: must get! the mousse was smoky and creamy, paired well with the slightly sweet bread- smoked trout-allium chip & dip: tasty but not a must try. the dip was well salted and can really taste smoked trout.- black cod: one of the best dishes served dim sum style. well worth $14. no other comments. must try!- pickled cucumber: loved this dish. juicy, refreshing, but also savory from the chili oil and cream. must try.for ordered dishes:- melon & cucumber salad: complex flavor profile and loved the savory twist to the fruits!- seared local albacore: each bite was surprising, flavorful!- state bird: good but i think it’s a little overhyped- corn mochi: the BEST dish of the night! the mochi was a little crunchy and smoky on the outside but chewy on the inside. never tried anything like that before.- parsnip mochi: went a second time and the mochi was paired differently but still top tier! state bird really knows how to do mochi!- sourdough-saurkraut pancakes: well cooked but thought the flavor would be strongerdessert:- peanut muscovado milk: sounds odd but reminds me of choc-nut in milk version! enjoyed it a lot- black tea ice cream sandwich: okay, wouldn’t get again- maple tres leches: also okay and wouldn’t get again- dutch crunch “bao”: pretty tasty and creative, not mind blowing

This is a Michelin 1 star restaurant that serves small plates advertised as "dimsum" style. In reality, the staff just walked around with trays of food to each table and introduced each dish(other than the cart for oysters). Apparently you need to make a reservation a month in advance. I was able to grab a spot 9pm a day before and p empty when we got there. My favorite dish would be the oysters, although the flavor was overwhlemed by the pickled kohlrabi. Everything else was just alright, nothing really stood out. Their signature quail dish lacked flavor. Only dish I would order again were the oysters. Our night took a turn when we noticed that we were not given a menu after dimsum carts were stopped(but the table next to us did???). Our bill also came out to double the price. It almost felt intentional from the waiter as each dish is tracked with a tally mark on the check that is used to total the bill. Our waiter was quick to fix the bill, but not apologetic lol.Bill was about $50 pp. Left content but not satisfied...Tdlr: Didn't feel like Michelin star restaurant. Service was alright, not very attentive(our waiter). Half of the dishes were mediocre. Room for improvement

I loved the concept of having both a la carte and dim sum options, however I’m giving it 4 stars because I found some of the dishes a bit underwhelming. I think everything from the a la carte menu was great but I would skip on some of the vegetable dim sum dishes we had.

Fun dining concept with dim sum-size choices on offer and walked through for your consideration, as well as a la carte menu. Everything we ate was delicious, especially (and appropriately) the State bird. Quite noisy. Great food.

Finally stopped by for dinner here after years of neglecting this bucket list restaurant and my god…. It was stupendous. Everything from the staff to the food to the hostess to the optional ‘dim sum’ nature of the experience was incredible. Highly recommend the crab noodles, ricotta pancakes, but the ice cream sandwich off the desert menu was my favorite dish. I tend to cringe at foodie focused shows like ‘the bear’, but this establishment shows you what black belt culinary technique looks like. Don’t think it’s possible to not have a good time here. Cheers and Ty for having us!

It's been 4 years since my first time here, and I had an amazing experience again! The concept is so fun, and makes the meal much more exciting and interactive. Favorite bites include black cod collar, egg tofu with pickled mushrooms, pork belly, and blood orange sorbet!

Was my 2nd time and got to try more items when going with friends. We had tried lamb chops, crab noodles, quail, butternut squash dish, oysters, beets and cucumber salads. The bottle of white wine was nice pairing with the seafood.

I was lucky enough to be invited by a friend… I had no idea what to expect and this was one of the best meals that I have had in a long time. The staff was friendly and helpful. We ordered a combination of menu items plus different things available on the cart. Everything was tasty and filling. I walked into the meal with a disdain for beets and left open minded. One of my favorite things about eating here was we were a group of three, and there was flexibility in receiving dishes that could be split by three people evenly. The vanilla “ice cream” sandwich was a dish that felt like it came directly from the heavens. This will definitely become a restaurant that will have been my permanent rotation for San Francisco.

After so much hype from our friends, my partner and I saved this place for our anniversary. The fusion dishes are creative/unique and service was good. Everything was delicious, but the price for quality is not justified when butter and chili oil are used as flavor shortcuts.A lot of the dishes fell short of our expectations because they were so greasy. The chili tofu and oysters were drowned in chili oil. Soup dumplings had no soup in it sadly. They were all delicious but we had this queasy aftertaste eating them.Recommend the kimchi crab yuba noodles!Dessert was delightful, had the orange sorbet. Shiso-yuzu soda was refreshing and not too sweet. For those who seek hospitality for special occasions, this isn't really the right place.

Extremely loud 80s music made it hard to hear even the person right next to me. With dim sum style service coming rapid fire, the experience overall was rather frenetic. I was happy to get out of there so that I could relax a little. Food was only OK. Very nice wines saved the night.
