The service was good. The loudness was so off-putting to me that we nearly left, but the host was able to seat us in a somewhat quieter back room. Our food came quickly. My dad ordered the potato pancakes and applesauce. "Not as good as my grandma made, but good." We are glad we went.

I came here a lot in 2012-2013. I brought friends in for brunch and was never disappointed. My wife and I came back recently and it was as good as I remembered. The food is delicious, the place is nice, and the neighborhood has a lot to do.

Delicious food and wonderfully nice staff. the restaurant is a really cute vibe, and I'm looking forward to coming back! It got pretty full shortly after opening, which is a testament to their popularity. Comer by and give it a try!

I really like this place, but definitely not for the service. It seems to be an SF thing, but service out here is not good. I have lived here for two years now and I tend to have good service only at high end restaurants. Don't expect good service at a place like Suppenkuche. BUT the food here is worth the below average service! I love German food so I had been dying to come here. The potato pancakes were delicious and the chicken schnitzel breakfast sandwich is something I'll dream about. I also had the donuts which were fine, but I wouldn't get them again. The servers weren't friendly or welcoming, but the food came out really fast. I got there around 12:50 and was out by 1:30. Personally, I don't mind mediocre service if the food is good so I will certainly be coming back here again! I would give it five stars if the service was better but I'm perfectly happy with this place just as it is.

The pretzel was dry and there was no salt on it. The German potato salad was not right at all, needs to be thinly sliced pieces of potato (yellow smaller ones) with oil, vinegar, broth and garnished with chives, or onions or small cut pieces of Gurke (gherkin). The Frankfurters were overcooked and mooshy. There is much room for improvement. Beer is always good.

Very good German food and communal atmosphere. You are likely to share a table with others but this just increases the fun. Deviled egg appetizer is a must on a bed of red beets. Delicious. We both had the jaegerschnitsel, which is two nice pieces of griddled pork loin, a nice helping of spaetzel, and surprisingly tasty lettuce salad. Portions are good and you can count on a great selection of German beer served up to a liter at a time. A Hayes Valley staple.

Walking off Hayes street and into this warm, lively, and authentic bierhalle. The schnitzel is always amazing and the liter of german beers are always a must. This is my favorite place to sit in for a meal in Hayes Valley. They just built some outdoor seating which will be great for the summer.

I work just down the street at Cotopaxi and had been meaning to visit Suppenkuche for AWHILE now. Holy shit I'm going to be back as soon as I get my next paycheck. Ambiance is next level, I love the nook behind the bar for casual dining. My bestie and I shared the mushroom gravy fries (vegetarian bt dubs). He got a beer with some strong coffee notes and I got the Helles. Satiated me in every possible way. Service was great too. The drink I ordered had ran out and she quickly gave me great replacement suggestions before I even asked.

As an Austrian I must say this place is the closest one in San Francisco to emulate Bavarian culture and food.A complete selection of beer, classic dishes, and exceptional staff. My only critique would be to add more flour to the käsespetzl and crisp it up a bit. Otherwise this place is exceptional.

no surprise the potato pancakes were my favorite! Came here on a Saturday afternoon with a party of 3 and it wasn't busy until later on. Waitress was friendly and attentive. I would be open to trying out other dishes next time. Our table got the: * Reibekuchen | Hausgemachtes Apfelmus & Schmand: potato pancakes I apple sauce, sour cream & chives $16 * Semmelknödel mit Pilzsauce: Traditional German Bread Dumpling w/ mushroom sauce $13

On fridays they serve whole pig knuckle with sauerkraut. Its delicious.Somehow the inside main space has terrible acoustics and its hard to hear even the person across from you. Their side seating area is fine though.

Really really great hidden gem. I want to start by saying that I loved the lively atmosphere and staff at Suppenkuche. The restaurant has two seating areas and you feel truly transported to a German bar. The vibes are very cozy yet lively. They have great menu options with lots of different German delicacies. I personally really enjoyed the sausage platters and the different dipping sauces. The potato pancake was also great with the apple sauce but a bit dry for my liking. I think this is a great restaurant for anyone looking to try German food. Next time I would love to try the schnitzel!
