Excellent location for an excellent price. Many people get sucked into the nearby “modern” streets, but this restaurant offers extremely authentic Chinese food that isn’t overly expensive . Would recommend and eat again!

It was good enough to eat jook with meat and pork chop over rice today in Chinatown. I could get to North Beach for my activities. Chinatown...

I came here with my parents for lunch and there's lot of open seating. My parents wanted to come here since they missed the eel clay pot rice they grew up eating in China. Even at 12pm there were only 2 other tables that were occupied. They have a large selection on the menu with many chefs and house special dishes. They also serve dim sum here if you're not sure what type of Chinese food you want. Yellow Eel Clay Pot Rice (4.5/5) - the rice was well made, and the crispy rice from the bottom of the pot made for great contrast in texture! It's very close to traditional yellow eel clay pot rice that you can find in China! Steamed White Eel with Black Bean Sauce (5/5) - best dish of the meal! The eel was the perfect texture, slightly crunchy (in a good way) and not mushy. Flavors were bold and nostalgic! Taishan Five Flavor Goose (3.5/5) - the flavors were great but the goose itself wasn't great quality (most likely can't compare to what you find in China) Green String Beans (5/5) - they were just right! Well seasoned in a garlicky stir fry, crispy and light. If you are in the area and looking for authentic Chinese eel or clay pot dishes, you should check out Taishan Restaurant! Fun Fact: They have a karaoke room in the back!

The yellow eel clay pot rice tastes so delicious!! And it’s huge portion. All the other dishes we ordered were also good. I especially liked the scallion pancake. Wish I have a bigger stomach to order more :)I also really appreciate the staff kept my wallet in a safe place (I accidentally left my wallet in the store) so I didn’t lose it. Thank you so much!

For the dishonesty of the owner/front desk cashier lady, and for the implicitly mediocre/unfresh food, if we had an option to give 0 star, we would. What Happened - Dishonesty for Trying to Make a Few Extra Dollars:We arrived shortly past 4pm with 20 minutes from my street parking time limit. There was only one customer in the place finishing up her food, and there was no takeout order when we were there. The lady promised the Dim Sum order for takeout would be ready in 10 minutes, hence we ordered and waited. I specifically made it clear that we were in a rush. If she couldn't do it she should have been honest to tell us. Instead, she carelessly made us wait for 16 minutes till I had to voice my complaint of the owner's dishonest promise and rush to my car to avoid getting a ticket or being towed while having my buddy wait for the order. That was not even the worst yet.The Worst - Retaliation against Customers:The lady decided to retaliate by refusing to hand over the order to my buddy for retaliation after a 20 minute wait, 2x of what the restaurant promised. It was a bit of a rainy afternoon, and we had no high expectations when we walked in, and had it been 2~3 minutes late or had it been busy I would've understood. However, they had no other customers ahead of us, and it was a simple rice cake Dim Sum dish.Instead of apologizing for your dishonesty or negligence, you decided to retaliate by wasting us 20 minutes waiting and then refused to serve.Food:It also implicitly shows that their Dim Sum is not fresh made or same-day prepared but frozen and taken out from the freezer to steam and fry after an order is placed - the only possible explanation why it took 20 minutes to not having a small order of rice cakes done.SF Chinatown has been known for being a tourist trap to many, but we were not tourists. If you upset locals, words pass around, and there will be consequences. Our main protest is the vicious revenge of the female front desk clerk or female boss. It didn’t matter if I waited a few more minutes. I waited patiently for twice the ten minutes she promised. I confirmed it with her again and again because I didn’t dare to be late for the parking space. She said it was no problem and said that it couldn’t be done in less than eight minutes because it would explode. . Just because I complained about the indifferent and indifferent attitude of the clerk or the owner, the clerk and the owner retaliated maliciously. We were just passing by a friend who was hungry, and we didn’t specifically want to eat from their house. As a result, my friend waited in vain for 20 minutes and there was a traffic jam in SF downtown for an hour. It's disgusting that this store has such an attitude when it's not busy.I ordered Saltwater Corner, that’s it. There were no other customers in front and no takeaways coming or going. This store may have deceived tourists for a long time, but we are not tourists. It's really too much of a lie.

P.S. They might have a habit of screwing tourists, given the tourist trap reputation of the SF Chinatown, and couldn't care less. But, we are locals in SF and the Bay Area. If we want Taishan food there are more than a dozen other places in San Fran and throughout the Peninsula and South Bay.

The shrimp dimsum was so good, but the spring roll was a bit oily . Chicken rice dish came with too much rice and less chicken.

We were driving back from north bay and decided to stop here for a late dinner. They have an extensive menu and even dim sum! The 4 of us ordered garlic string beans, curried beef brisket and bok choy over crispy noodles, lamb stew and rice, and a beef chow fun. It was shared family style on a lazy susan. Garlic string beans - good texture and flavor. 5/5 Curried beef brisket and bok choy over crispy noodles - the noodles were packed instant noodles, sauce kinda thick. Beef and flavor was ok. 3/5 Beef chow fun - not very flavorful. Noodles tasted old. This dish wasn't good. 1/5 Lamb stew - good 5 spice flavor and not gamey. More rice than stew. 4/5 Maybe we didn't order the right dishes? Some were hit and miss. Dim sum could be better? In any case, they're open late and some things were ok. Now that I read some reviews, were we charged tip with our meal and paid tip again? Businesses who practice this should tell customers so they know! Definitely will rethink coming back if at all.
