Great innovative vegan and plant based options. Cute and fresh space with a friendly face to always welcome you !!

Just tried Vegan Picnic for the first time today. My friend and I ventured from FiDi for lunch - she is vegan, I'm not but like to eat vegetarian/vegan when I can. We both had the fried chicken sandwich and thought it was very tasty! I don't eat a lot of vegan "meats" so I don't have much to compare to, but I thought it was good, crispy, I liked the bun, sauce, and great coleslaw on the side. The space is open and very clean (unlike some spots in this area) and they have seating indoors and outside as well. I would definitely go back to try more of their sandwiches!

I have a sneaking suspicion that the chicken patty in the crispy chicken sandwich is Whole Foods 365 brand. I was expecting something homemade, or at least crispy (it was not crispy at all), but damn if I don't love Whole Foods fake chicken. Nothing special that you couldn't make yourself at home, but it was still undeniably tasty. So you still get 4 stars from me.

I'm an avid meat eater and my wife brought me here to try the food. I had the meatball sandwich and I was impressed by how good it was. I hope everyone comes to try the food there. Also try the brownies for dessert!

I was visiting from So Cal to visit my daughter and on my last day I NEEDED my vegan food. I was piece mealing options from "normal" restaurants. I made it work but I was excited to find this place. It was a 2 minute walk from my hotel (kicking myself why I didn't research sooner) Arrived at this very cute and clean place and asked the host to give recommendations. He was two days in and sent the person from the back who was more versed with the menu. He was extremely polite and she was even more helpful. We ordered the VP Burger, VP meatballs and Crispy chicken sandwiches, all recommended by the lady in the back, TeeTee. Each sandwich came with choice of coleslaw or macaroni salad. We chose the macaroni salad. Great choice. Out of the sandwiches, we loved the the chicken sandwich, burger, then meatball sandwich; in that order. Coming from the LA area, we are spoiled with vegan options but for what this was, I was satisfied. If you live in SF or just visiting, this is a good spot to satisfy your vegan needs. If looking for healthy vegan, this is not for you. But if you want a good "picnic" option this is worth a try. Sorry we ate all of our food and didn't take pics. Oh and we ordered the cinnamon roll and Brownie. Absolutely delicious!!!!

Brownie is huge and filling and the Fish fillet sandwich is delicious! The service was friendly as well. I like their take-home items and the menu is nice.

A fun treat to find in the city and a great place for lunch! I especially enjoyed the vegan brownie. Best of all is their customer service... I had a crazy experience wherein while I was sitting outside the restaurant, eating my lunch, a disturbed passerby spit in my sandwich! Right inside it! His aim was spectacular. It was the last straw in what had turned out to be a bad day and so when I went into the restaurant to order a new sandwich I ended up just throwing the ruined sandwich away and leaving in tears. Some other customers (they apparently attract really nice customers!) saw what happened, told the staff, who tried to chase me down but I was already around the corner. About half an hour later, after I had gathered myself, I decided to come back and the staff was SO HAPPY! They said that they had really been hoping I would come back. They comped me a new sandwich and called the manager, told him or her what happened, and they threw in a free dessert. It just restored my faith in humanity whereas a half hour before I felt just bad about life and people. Vegan Picnic: great food, great people.

WONDERFUL PLACE!!!! :) We took a trip to San Francisco recently and we really wanted to try all the vegan places while we were their :D This place was #1 to try for breakfast, I was NOT disappointed amazing food! :) I loved the choices they had and they even had left over options in their fridge selection and drinks as well as desserts super yummy! I wish so badly they were in San Diego, CA! The customer service was great they were patient, nice, and fast with our order :D We went back 2 times for breakfast, we were in a week long trip so we took advantage of being their and being able to have their food. :D Definitely try this place, so delicious!

I don't like leaving bad reviews but the bun had mold on it and the steak sandwich was so messy and falling apart. I left a message just letting them know but they never called back. The chicken sandwich was alright. Just a heads up the sides that come with the sandwich are like 3 or 4 bites so don't think that'll fill you up. They were alright at best.

As there are limited vegan options in San Francisco we were very excited to try this place. Unfortunately we were sorely disappointed with the food that they tried to pass as edible. I honestly hope, for the sake of veganism, that non-vegans have not tried this place. I ordered the breakfast sandwich and having paid $11.25 for it I guess I was expecting more than an acceptable vegan sausage with mealy and runny eggs on a cheap hamburger bun drenched in ketchup. Honestly I would have been much happier with the impossible breakfast sandwich at Pete's which is 1000% better and half the price. My girlfriend got the Chinese chicken salad which was advertised as shredded chicken (it was not shredded and poorly seasoned), on a bed of romaine and cabbage (there was no cabbage), with a sesame ginger dressing (it was more of a vinaigrette with no flavor, let alone any hints of sesame or ginger). It was so nasty we didn't even want to give it away for fear of having it thrown back at us. We really wanted to like this place but it was the biggest let down, way overpriced, and flat out disgusting. We had to go get a proper meal after trying to stomach this sad excuse for food. We will not be back and will be discouraging our well-intentioned vegan allies to stay away as well.

Amazing! All the food was delicious, but the surprise treat was the vegan cheesecake! I have never had a good cheesecake until I came to eat here..Just do it ..don't question it.You will thank me later.

Smartly-done, clean and friendly place on the edge of Polk Gulch and tendernob. Prices here are on par with the good quality. My fish sandwich a la Mc D's was more hearty than the real deal, and very oozy. I'd get it again. One general comment I have is that the word, "healthy" is bandied about less-than responsibly in today's world of plant based everything. But really much of this "guilt-free" food is processed, high carb with a side of sodium. The main fresh things that stood out for me in this visit were the coleslaw and the kale caesar, and there are fresh garnishes on many sandwiches. A person can expect 'vegan' food to mean everything possible on the spectrum from fresh, completely whole foods through more processed options. I think Vegan Picnic has settled on the right business model for them, and the duration of their business proves it: Satisfying vegan comfort food.

Ordered the BLT and it was drowning in Mayo. Presentation was also sloppy like something you might find at 7/11 on a road trip except the price was $14.25. The faux bacon was also very plain. I only ate half because it quite literally tasted like I was eating a mayonnaise sandwich. Bummer because I live near by and would like to support local vegan restaurants versus buying from Whole Foods. If you want a killer vegan sandwich head to Turners Kitchen in the mission. Price is the same as VP but the quality is amazing.

I have been obsessed with the Chicken N' Waffles breakfast sandwich ever since I first had it fall of 2018, no joke. I don't live in SF but every time I visit, I go out of my way to stop at one of the Vegan Picnics to grab one for myself. The sauce is amazing, I love the fried "chicken", and I always have great service. Both locations are mostly grab 'n go but there's always something neat nearby in the city to check out while you enjoy your breakfast. Already looking forward to my next trip up!

Crispy chicken sandwich is amazing, Same with their VP meatball. Grilled cheese seemed to be baked/not fried (not oily at all). Crab sandwich is great, their "the bomb" is also great. I don't love their sides macaroni salad and coleslaw as much anymore. They haven't tasted very fresh the last 5 times I've gone. Seems like small portions of sides and rich flavor so good. Their bread is almost always good and has been stale twice of my MANY visits. I do recommend vegan picnic and bring friends there often. Baklava is amazing from there. Bf loves their cheesecake. Didn't love the fridge chicken salad. The chicken flavor wasn't great and gave me a stomach ache, but the grilled chicken sandwich doesn't give me stomach ache so it might be the lettuce/cabbage in it? They do need to figure out pickup so online/phone orders don't need to wait in the line behind people ordering (which can take a long time while food gets cold). Customer service is amazing here!
