Delicious and savory food, one item that stood out to me was their elote wich was fried, I never tried it like that before and it was so good. Kind of disappointed when I ordered the churros and at the picture they present an ice cream and it didn't come with it, when I called the server to ask for it he said they didn't even had the ice cream, and it was just for the pic, so keep that in mind ?Staff is okay, place is a little loud but it's understandable for a bar

ABVE the Basics is the definition of elevated Mexican food. I was very surprised by how creative and flavorful the food was. I would definitely come back for another bite.
I submitted an online inquiry to have ABVE the Basics cater a party at my home last weekend. I received a quick response back from Gabe, who was concerned that picking up a large to-go order could compromise the quality of his food. He offered to come to my home and cook the same amount of food, on-demand, for my guests. I loved the idea, and it really added a nice personalized touch to the party. Gabe was prompt, super friendly and flexible with his setup (given that it was raining and we had to move him under our porch overhang at the last minute). But above all, his food was INCREDIBLE! I'm embarrassed to admit how times I went back to his grill to ask for more...I can't speak for the brick & mortar location since I have never actually been, but if you're looking for someone to cater your next party, give Gabe a call. You will not be disappointed. Can't wait to drop in on him at the SAP center next week. By then, we will have torn through all of our leftovers and craving more of his delicious tacos!Fun fact: word on the street is that Gabe also caters for our favorite NFL wide receiver.

The prices did not match the quality. We ordered the Mexican pizza and the surf and turf burrito. The photos on Yelp, that are directly from the owners, do not match what you get. The Mexican pizza was super misleading, in the photos online it looked amazing, but in reality it was canned chili in between two tostadas. It was horribly salty and honestly disgusting. The surf and turf burrito was decent, except I told the man behind the counter I had an avocado allergy so he put it on the side, but it's like the cook forgot and then tried to scoop it out, leaving remnants of avocado throughout the burrito. Super disappointed that allergies clearly are not taken seriously at this establishment. I would have rather eaten at Taco Bell. Only good thing to say is the service was phenomenal. The man behind the counter was super nice and friendly. Unfortunately that isn't enough to make us come back. Don't trust the amazing Yelp reviews, it was a 1/10.

Thought we were walking into a restaurant but, it ended up to be a Dive Bar but, the food is provided by this restaurant.Located inside Stevie's, they have a variety of food to choose from & the food was very yummy with its own twist. The guy who took our order was very friendly & helpful with any questions we had regarding our order. Free water so you don't have to ask for any. They sell different flavors of lemon aid. They give you a buzzer for when your food is ready but, they are nice enough to come out, look for your table & bring your food out to you.Prices for some of the food is a little pricy.Located inside a plaza but, parking SUKS!!! it's so busy in the plaza because there's a lot of other business that are busy.WHYYY was there only 1 Bar Tender on a Friday you legit have to stand in a line to get a drink

4.5 starsFirst time visiting, and the experience was excellent. The service was really good and friendly. Stevie's bar offers a cool and chill vibe, and with the food provided by ABVE the Basics, it was a really awesome fit. The flavors of the burrito, Bay Area Surf and Turf, is a modern take on the burritos I usually buy in the East Side. The parking situation is pretty decent for the size of the plaza, so that was really appreciated.

So this place is actually located inside Stevie's Bar & Grill. There's a parking lot and there's also Street parking in case the parking lot gets full, which is where we had to park. I got the Cali shrimp taco and the Cali fish taco which was 7 bucks each, which I think for the size and for what comes on in is pretty worth it. I really enjoyed both tacos. The shrimp was perffectly cooked and so juicy. The cod for the fish taco was nicely breaded. I love how there's perfect amounts of guac, crema, pico, and this chipotle garlic aoli. My partner got the Surf and Turf burrito, which was 17 dollars I believe, and before you come at the price, it does come loaded with your choice of meat, shrimp, fries, cilantro lime rice, guac, and everything else that they put on the tacos. We also got the churros. We enjoyed the churros and how fluffy they were on the inside even after sitting out while we were eating our main foods first. Most churros get so dry, and hard aftter a few minutes and is hollow on the inside. But thier's didn't dry out, and stayed fluffy and airy on the inside. I just wish they had chocolate dip that would have completed it! That's just me though. They were super friedly and chill, they kept checking on us, plus gave us some coupons to use the next time we go! This is def a little hole in the wall. I would come check this place out. So good, so savory 10/10P.S. I thought I had a picture of the burrito, I remember taking a picture of it.. but I guess I got too excited that the picture ended up blurry LOL

D E L I C I O U S. Found this hidden gem for a quick bite after work and was not disappointed. Tried out their fish tacos and pork belly bowl and I wish we would have gotten more! There was a really long wait for the food to be made, but I didn't mind bc it's a good place to just catch up with friends-- they even have a pool table. Definitely will come back and looking to try their other taco options as well as the burrito! The hand fried tortilla chips and fresh salsa were the cherry on top.

This restaurant is actually located inside the bar & grill. The food is a bit pricey but it's a big portion size and it's actually very filling. I could've easily been full off of 1 taco. For mexican street tacos, i usually need to eat at least 2. The ambiance was great and the staff at ABVE and the bar were very friendly. The elote was my favorite dish. I'd definitely come back again for lunch.

WOW! Hidden gem in Stevie's Bar and Grill. Took a while to get the order but when it came out the food was amazing! The Steak Tacos are next level flavorful and 2 is plenty! Be sure to grab a beverage for the wait. I'll be back again and update with photos. Amazing Job!

All I have to say is, these are some of THEE BEST crispy fish tacos I've ever had in the bay. Seriously. I ordered 2 & it was definitely more than enough food. The orange sauce on top of these tacos... shmack. The plate also came w a side of chips & salsa which was nice.The owner brought our food to the bar & then came back to ask us how everything was. So sweet.They're located inside of Stevie's bar & grill which is dope bc you're able to eat, drink & play pool all at the same damn time.

Ok listen... I'm a grown woman and not afraid to admit when I judged a book by it's cover. I stopped by Stevie's and got an order to go (safest option when unsure of ambiance but craving quality food) and it was in fact a total change from the old days. While it still feels more like a bar than a grille, I would take my older teens for a bite earlier in the evening without hesitation. The food was just as amazing without question. Can't wait to take my partner and grab a beer and some incredible food!
