I come here when I want to hang out with old Portuguese men and quietly contemplate life as I drink a cold beer or sip a garroto (cappuccino).Located on Alum Rock Avenue and 33rd street in the old part of San Jose. They also serve traditional hot dishes on some Fridays that will transport you to the old world with each bite.

I have been going to this place, on and off, for 5-6 years now. Awesome food, drinks and most importantly prices! I do consider myself a neighborhood regular and enjoy passing time with friends. I enjoy sitting in their back patio and relaxing/talking/laughing with friends. This place has hosted some parties and events... and in my opinion should do more! It's always a good time at the Grupo. One of the things that this place is known for is Dancas De Carnaval that they do every year, and have been doing for many many years! Definitely an awesome tradition and glad to see this place still going strong.

This place is basically a retirement home for old alcoholics who sit around all day and gossip downing others.... lol I jk jk I been coming here for 4 years, drinks are crazy cheap, tvs are set up throughout bar wich isnt to big but not to small so u get that cosy feel. Everyone knows everone for most part, good people and welcoming, also there are events ygat occur from beer bong parties festas performance s birthdays etc.... good place for alcohlics and to pre drink or kill some time with friends

I guess i will be the first to write a review :) I have been coming here off-and-on for over 20 year, and it's had it's ups and downs. Mainly depends on who is the president and board at the time. I have been going regularly for the last 3 years and things have be very consistent. It's a neighborhood pub where you can still get $1 US Dollars draft beer all the time, $1, or $2 shots depending if you want a 1 once or, 3-4 once shoot! The food is also very good but it's a daily menu, so if you are looking for something specific call ahead to make sure they are making it that day. Their (Bifana) is one of the best, it's thin sliced and marinated just right, and serve on daily baked bread with fries. I don't know of any other place in town where you can get an awesome marinaded pork sandwich (Bifana) with fries and draft beer for $7. This is a great place to drop in and grab some pub food and drink a few beers and have a shot or two with some friends and spend no more then $10 bucks! And when it comes to the holidays and Carnival season, this place is really a blast to be in. Unbelievable places like this still exist!! Great job at keeping the old-world culture still alive in San Jose :)

Awesome place to hang out and relax while having a beer and eating a bifana with fries. Great social place to chit chat with your Portuguese friends. Great location and great place to be!
