Was really looking forward to finally having good American bbq in the Bay after reading all the reviews. Brisket had way too much black pepper and not much of any other seasoning. It was also tender, but still dry and left a cotton mouth feel when eaten. The ribs were juicy, but too meaty for me and definitely needed more flavor. Several of the ribs served in my group seemed leftover from last night/batch and were super dry/stringy. The potato salad was average and the mac and cheese's cheesy sauce was more watery than cheesy. The BBQ sauces were not nearly as tangy as my group prefers and it lacked flavor in general. At least the cornbread was really enjoyable texture and flavorwise.

was excited to try this place due to the high yelp reviews. my fellow yelpers failed me :( we ordered several meals: brisket, pork ribs coleslaw, mac n' cheese, cowboy beans, potato salad we ate in due to the number of people we had in our party. (1-10 scale) brisket: 4 ribs: 4 sides: 5 (corn bread was good & warm) all other sides were ok brisket may have looked juicy, but was so chewy pork ribs: i think some of our plates had leftover ribs from the night before why? tiny dry & small ribs we had additional ribs added & they were much larger, juicier (just cooked) won't be back. we have had much better food elsewhere & even at home.

I hardly give 5-star reviews, but I'll have to give Mesquite and Oak props that the service and food were excellent! I came here with a couple of my former coworkers for our regular lunch for the first time since it was highly recommended. They don't disappoint. The place is small and has indoor and outdoor seating. There is a small parking lot in the back. The employees were very friendly, and they brought out our food since we were sitting outside. I got the pork spare ribs that were so moist and tender. Oh so good! It comes with moist cornbread, and I got two sides of beans that had a little bit of meat and the bit of tangy cole slaw. Yum! The spicy sauce wasn't too spicy, IMO. The NC orange sauce wasn't too spicy but very good, and the mild sauce was mild and good. I had two ribs to bring home and made sure I slathered enough of the spicy and NC sauces on each rib. I will definitely be back!

Fantastic BBQ and authentic from Texas !! It's open for breakfast too !! Today we had the ribs with cowboy beans and their Mac and cheese and it did not disappoint. The ribs fell apart. Staff is friendly and helpful. Only thing I would suggest offering wine

The bacon brisket hash is absolutely delicious, and a better breakfast offering than what's offered at most breakfast restaurants. Only downside is that the restaurant is open at 10 or 11 AM, which is later than what some might want for breakfast. Mesquite & Oak has the best quality BBQ in the South Bay.

This place gets ONE star from us, simply because Google requires at least one. ZERO stars would've been more appropriate. Here's why:1) The customer service was horrible. The woman at the register was cold and rude when we attempted to order things that were either sold out or not available. When we attempted to order the beer ribs, her response was, "NO, we're out of it." When we attempted to order a fountain drink, she replied "NO...that (the fountain drink machine) is not working...you're only options are here" (as she angrily pointed at the refrigerator with a few canned and bottled drinks in it).2) As we awaited our order, the service went from BAD to WORSE when we were told that they ran out of pulled pork. Alternatively, I asked for chicken and was told, "we're out of that, too." REALLY?! What kind of BBQ place runs out of pork, chicken AND beef ribs on a SLOW Wednesday?! They're excuse was that they run out of food before closing. BUT - we order our food at 2:26 PM and they close at 4:00 PM. Ninety minutes is hardly close to closing time.3) Since most of my order included items that were sold out, I settled for a side of steamed jasmine rice. Thankfully, my husband's order was available, BUT the ribs were as tough as leather. You'll note from the attached image that there were lots of scraps because my husband couldn't chew it. Yes, it was THAT tough. And the BBQ sauce bottle at the table was completely empty. NO chicken, no pulled pork, no beef ribs and NO BBQ sauce. WOW!I'm all about supporting small business, and am leaving this post in hopes that the owners see it and improve in a way that makes them proud to put their name to the food and customer service they offer. Our experience was beyond disappointing. We won't be going back.

At Mesquite & Oak, you're greeted with a warmth that only matches the quality of their BBQ. Their brisket is a standout, arguably one of the best in town, though I wish their BBQ sauce packed a bit more punch. Regardless, it's an experience you will want to experience. A fun insider tip: visiting around Easter treats you to cornbread shaped like adorable bunnies. #BBQBliss #BrisketBest #EasterEats

This is one of the few BBQ places around here that has Dino ribs. The cowboy beans are meaty and delicious, and the people are very friendly.
