I think because of the pandemic that the menu was shortened. Majority of what I seen on Yelp isn't what they were selling on the Menu when my husband and I came here. I may try them again as the pandemic opens but idk.

31st Union has been hit and miss. Pre-pandemic I enjoyed several meals with friends and family in the restaurant. During pandemic, I tried to support them (and other local restaurants) but the quality really took a nose-dive. I know it's been difficult so I didn't complain or ask for my money back when the fried chicken was burnt or the salad was limp or the butterscotch pot de cream was liquid. But, the last order - my favorite quinoa salad with chicken - was not edible. There was absolutely something wrong with the chicken. I tried to pick it off but the salad still tasted as if it had gone bad. I reached out to them and instead of a refund, they gave me a credit (and not a full credit including delivery fee, tax, etc.). But, now they are closed so I assume I will not be able to use my credit. I do hope they reopen and are able to get back to where they were pre-pandemic. It's nice to have these neighborhood places in San Mateo. (I also gave them an extra star because they have been feeding front-line health care workers.)

My favorite restaurant in San Mateo. Perfect for date night, take out, or dropping in to grab a bite at the bar. I've eaten there about 50 times an it has always been perfection. Ambiance, design, and thoughtful culinary experiences (comfort food) combine to make it an experience that leaves me happy to visit again and again.

The general manager never reached out when the owner said they would. We got our money back because of the third party app and weren't planning on accepting the offer. Just a warning for those who do have issues with their order, their owner/manager won't actually follow up.

Fun drinks, very good service/covid safety, and quality food. The steak and sweet potato mash wasn't a great dish, but we really liked the brussel sprouts and fries.

Apple and Quince Clafoutis, Pear and Cranberry Crumble, Winter Squash Casserole and Christmas Morning Mimosas made our Christmas Eve brunch complete! All were available for order online and curbside pickup, so convenient in this time of COVID. The desserts were a delicous hit with our family!!!

Ever have one of those days where you're so busy that you forget to eat real food? We had that happen earlier this week; we were so busy proofing, prepping, baking and photographing multiple sweet dishes that we realized we were on sugar/carb overload. We needed real food and we needed it now. So we decided to head up DT San Mateo and check out 31st Union. 31st Union is an American Gastropub that features cocktails, wine and local craft brews. They also have a nicely curated menu that serves "California Comfort Food" made with as many locally-sourced products as possible and features a rotating seasonal menu. *We shared the Crispy Brussels Sprouts app and we couldn't get enough! The miso Caesar dressing that accompanied it was the perfect foil to the sprouts' bitter notes. *I was tempted by the fried chicken sando, but realized I needed some "real" food so I went with the Roasted Pork Tenderloin. The pork was cooked perfectly and the sunchoke and apple hash had come with it was the perfect amount of sweetness to go along with it. I also enjoyed the tangy pickled mustard seeds that added enjoyable vinegary pops of flavor. *Carissa opted for the Quinoa Salad and she was really happy with the huge helping of arugula and crunchy almonds. *Open for well-spaced outdoor dining with sanitizer provided upon check-in. *Reservations aren't necessary but if you message them here on IG they'll happily reserve you a table. *Happy Hour daily from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. *Fantastic service, great atmosphere and plenty of street parking. Highly recommended by us and we'll def be back!

This is our new San Mateo favorite! We got takeout (direct from their website, the postmates menu is incorrect) and it arrived on time via their own delivery. The soup and seasonal pizza was out of this world! The chicken sandwich and burgers were also spot on.10/10 if youre looking for a shake up from your normal takeout go tos.

Food was tasty Limited daytime menu. Took a short moment for them to have our table ready. Lunch menu is very small.
