The goat of chinese and sushi in Marin. Kind of insane how a place like this with a combination kitchen would make food this good for both types of food

My family and I have been coming to Yu Shang for 20+ years. The main staff are amazing. know us by name, and as we almost always get the same thing, remember our orders. Though are great with recommendations if we do want to try anything new. The restaurant itself has definitely seen better days, but it never feels like you have to rush when there. You catch up with the staff and enjoy a nice meal. Though it is a bit on the more expensive side, we think it's worth it. We go for special occasions or just when we miss the food. We usually get the mixed tempura, sizzling rice soup, curry chicken with mushrooms and broccoli, oyster sauce beef with mixed vegetables and a sizzling shrimp and mixed vegetables plate. 10% of the time, they might be inconsistent but not usually when dining in. Though be careful when ordering out. They're are consistently short with their portions when ordering out.

I used to go to this place for shrimp chow mine and sushi. But won't go back again. Last visit , restaurant was empty. Our table was the only table in entire restaurant and service was terrible. Food was mediocre. We didn't even finish our chicken dish and we took home thinking that someone will eat . But food ended up in trash :( . I hate to waste food but that chicken dish was terrible . Shrimp Chow-mien was good though. Our Server was busy on her cell phone and had an ear phone on. Bus boy helped us the whole time . We got extra order of fried rice which we returned and bus boy looked confused . Our server didn't even check on us . But when we were done with our dinner she dropped us a check which was hand written as usual . No any clues what we were charged for . We were confused with the price because it was different (more ) than menu . On top of that she charged gratuity for party of four even though she was leaning on the wall and checking her cell phone whole time . All she did was took order and dropped us a check with added gratuity . To be honest , She doesn't even deserve any gratuity lol . I used to wait on table before . I know waiting on table is not an easy job and I had never complained regarding server . But this time our server compelled me do so . I felt insulted when she added gratuity for party of four . I used to go there before even when we were party of 5 or more , and gratuity was not added on . Anyway , I always tip 15 % to 18% to my server regardless of their service . 20 % to 30% tips to the great service depending on service level . Prolly our server must have assumed that we won't tip her ( being an Asian customer ) other wise who would add gratuity for party of four in Marin lol .

Came back to California to visit my parents and a friend insisted i check this restaurant out since i'm a huge sushi fan. The service was amazing, and the sushi chef and server are so welcoming and friendly. I live in Las Vegas where there's a sushi joint on every street but I have to say this is one of the best sushi places I've been too. I would definitely recommend to family and friends

We used to frequent this restaurant frequently, however we moved out of the area and it has been some time since we've been patrons. Today was our last visit. The restaurant was freezing. Every patron was bundled in their coats and the wait staff had puffy vests zipped to the chin! My inquiry about the temperature was met with a blank stare. Overall the service was minimal with little evidence that the servers cared about the customer or the job. I will note that Henry was not present today which may have accounted for the lackluster service and ambiance. We ordered 2 sushi rolls which were indistinguishable from each other, inconsistently sliced, loosely wrapped and poorly presented. The potstickers had an unbalanced ratio of meat to wrapper resulting in doughy consistency. A hot sake, 2, mid-range, sushi rolls and an order of pot stickers cost close to $55 without the tip. We left with a shrug, a head shake, frozen fingers and toes and an abused credit card. Never again.

Excellent restaurant with impeccable service. Food is divine on either side of the restaurant. I would suggest to sit at the sushi bar and enjoy the closest thing to custom omakase experience you can. This place is a true hidden gem to be cherished by those who dine here. Cảm ơn.

Really surprisingly excellent. Had the crispy chicken chow mein and the string bean chicken with the garlic sauce. Location was weird and place was pretty empty, but then the food was stunning, 10/10.

Yu Shang never fail me! My favorite sushi spot!!! They have a great choices of fishes and of course my favorite dragon roll!!!! Staffs are always great and friendly with a very cozy ambiance! If you are a sushi lover you'll 101% love Yu Shang!
