Pretty decent food, but nothing special. However the price is pretty high, so quality/price ratio is too low in the end, that's why it's 2 stars. How to improve: either improve the quality, or lower the price.

Super tasty food, plantain appetizer is delicious and the specials are great!Highly recommend the mahi-mahi and curry shrimp and grits.

This place knows exactly what good Caribbean food is and how to prepare and serve it. Great flavor and generous portions so excellently plated. They also carry a good selection of wines to go with red meat, white meat or seafood. For a downtown location, they are reasonably priced. Service is so warm and friendly. I sure would recommend this restaurant.

I can't say enough about this place, the atmosphere is great and the service is terrific, and the food was exceptionally delicious! I had some of the best catfish I've ever had in my life.I am a SB local, and I am definitely going back.

Very tasty food but completely inept (though sincere) service. One poor guy who didn't have a clue how to be a waiter. Ambiance was terrible. No sign when you enter telling you to seat yourself (if we had waited for someone it would have been a very long time). Off to the immediate left are plastic crates, stacked chairs. Inside the restaurant is a very strange counter with odd stuff behind it that looked like someone's office. Again, food was good but service very slow and confused.

My friend and I had an interesting experience here. It was our first time and were greeted by the owner. We asked if we could use the 2022 Axxess card and received a roundabout answer. Once seated we asked again and he said yes and told us our server would be right with us. Ten minutes later our server came with used menus and hibiscus infused water. Neither my friend nor I were fans so we asked for regular water when she came back to us. My friend ordered the Curry Vegetable Stir Fry and I asked our server if she recommended the red snapper or catfish. She responded that they were out of the catfish, so I ordered the Red Snapper fillet. She informed me that that night the red snapper was actually the whole fish, not just the fillet. I said I would try it. Our food arrived and my friend really enjoyed her meal, but I picked at the fish and unfortunately got some bones in my mouth. It didn't taste like much and it came with plain rice.

Ok people, this place is AMAZING! We are long time locals and had never previously been to Embermill. The space is beautiful and even though the night time lighting and slower than average service is less than the ideal, the food is simply incredible and more than makes up the stagger in those areas. INCREDIBLE food!!The brussel sprouts, plantains and cod fritters are particularly good for apps. The J*** chicken is the best I’ve ever had and the seafood gumbo is out of the world. Seriously…what is that?! Comparable to New Orleans style but with more of a mole flare. The sweet potato/pecan pie is more than enough goodness to pile on an already fantastic meal. This place is a hidden gem in plain view and I’ll be telling everyone I know to come here. Harold the owner is a nice guy and I can’t wait to come back. Come here hungry and you will not be disappointed. Not many local places can rival this spot and I’ve nearly had them all…enjoy!!

I am a vegetarian, so I got the curry. It was very good and flavorful. I know they have live music here sometimes, but on the nights they don’t they should have some ambient background music playing. That’s my only feedback.

OK so I'm writing this review almost 2 hours after we entered the restaurant. We were here for Thanksgiving when they had a 5 course vegan meal for $65. So far we got just 2 and they were pretty good to be honest. But here I'm shivering in the cold, because they do no know how to fix the outdoor heater(there are few other people equally frustrated as me) . The service is chaotic, there is only one woman who knew what was going around. To summarize 1) really bad service 2) the food is good but without coherent staff you cannot have a good experience dining here. I'd avoid this place if I read the last few reviews. Too late for me, I hope I get my next course before the Turkish delight store next door closes (at 8) We finally got our food and we were out by 8 pm, thanks to Julie who was our only saving grace.

Ohmigoodess! There should be a LOVE button on this page. Cod fritters, eggplant guacamole, and fried brussels, chased with a Red Stripe. All the flavor... wow!

We had a frustrating experience here. We came for dinner without reservations and were seated immediately since the restaurant was fairly empty. The menu really looked spectacular and the food smelled wonderful from the street, which brought us in instead of going to Sama Sama across the street. The interior design is a little haphazard. Waking in, it almost looks like it used to be an ice cream or dessert shop, then you turn the corner and there's what looks like an open kitchen that wasn't in use. The dining room was nice enough with an open air concept. Once we ordered, the food took forever to come out. It turns out that there is only one chef working in the kitchen, and they had decided to chit chat with a table of young women for a very extended period. This entire period, literally no food was thing prepared for us. So we just sat and sat until our food came out after at least 45 minutes. In that time, no appetizers came out. Again, no food was being prepared at all because the only chef working in the kitchen was not even in the kitchen! This was extremely frustrating. We relayed our concerns to the owner, who also was the person who sat us at our table. They made similar comments of being frustrated with the chef. After all this, nothing was comped from the bill. Again, the owner agreed that the dinner service was subpar and needed improvement. And nothing was comped. It's even more frustrating because the food was actually good, but everyone was so upset they could not enjoy it. Incredible.

Best truly quality restaurant I've been to in SB. The care of each dish is amazing. The staff is super courteous and attentive. If you want truly authentic food served piping hot and flavourful, do yourself a favor and go enjoy this place. The Doro Wat Stew is a must. Heater Outdoor and indoor seating, this place has a great vibe. 10/10. Don't sleep on this place SB! Go support!

Wish I could give it a better review but I can't even find a time that this restaurant is open. They were open for lunch 3 weeks ago. We came today and everything is dark. Google says open at 5pm, their website says open at 11am and Yelp says 1pm. So which one is it? Is this restaurant even still open?

While our server was very attentive and switched on, the food was bland and boring. My wife and I have been to Jamaica on holiday on a number of occasions and worked in the Caribbean region for two years, so we know what we are talking about. The j*** chicken lacked flavor and more resembled standard roast chicken. The curry goat was tender and well cooked, but was served in a watery broth that lacked punch -- I couldn't detect any curry powder. While I really wanted to like the place, we won't be back.

This place brings the flavor. The sauce on the Brussels sprouts was awesome, and the plantains were great too. I liked all the vegan options and am curious what will be on their new menu. The person with me had the blackened catfish. He said it was cooked perfectly and had excellent flavor. We met the chef on the way out, and he was really friendly.
