Hand to heart — one of the best pizzas we’ve ever had! Got a tip from a local on the plane to try this and they didn’t mislead. Partners with a local ale house, which was also good. The Parmesan crisp around the edges of the crust made this next level good. Don’t let the thick crust fool you! It’s so light and crispy. We’ll visit every trip to the area.

Love the pizza and all the other food. But, then again, my son is the owner/Chef, so naturally, I'm a little biased.

One of the best, if not the best, pizza I've ever had. Fantastic crunch on the crust, plenty of bread, and interesting flavor combinations.

This is a happening spot! Very busy and there’s no question why- the beer, food and service are excellent!! We ordered a variety of pizzas- pepperoni, mushroom and vegan. All amazingly good. We also ordered the incredible green goddess salad - dressed to perfection with fabulous fresh herbs and the maitake wings- yum! Don’t be alarmed by the line! It moved fast and the food didn’t take long either- and came in courses which was fabulous! They also have lots of board games for your entertainment. Highly recommend!! Thank you Sante Adarius and Bookies:) we’ll be back!Vegetarian options: The vegan pizza was by far the best I’ve ever tasted. Lots of veg options.
I wanted to love this pizza. The sausage was very burnt and dry, and there was an overwhelming tarragon flavor. It seemed very expensive for what it was.

Today you missed the mark. You made what I imagined was going to be a delicious pizza and topped it of with burnt garlic. YUCK! As a fine dinning pizza maker, as your website claims, you should know that burnt garlic is gross, bitter, gummy gets stuck in your teeth and lingers in your mouth. It disgusting and repugnant. It will ruin any dish. It doesn't matter how many fresh, organic and high end ingredients you use, as you were quick to remind me, it makes the dish unpleasant. You then proceeded to throw Pizza my Heart into the mix, a Santa Cruz institution for those whom may not be able to afford your pizza, or simply prefer it. Shame on you for throwing your colleagues under the bus, so unprofessional. Your Sous chef asked me if I would like a refund or make me another pizza. I said "Make me another pizza, I admit I forgot the please and you took my words out of context slapped them in my face and said I was rude a went up to the counter and said "MAKE ME ANOTHER PIZZA! I ended up apologizing to you and your kitchen staff under your insistence. The only person that had the decency to apologize was the bar manager who was quick to point out isn't attach to the kitchen You should consider being open to feedback and not being so sensitive. You are in a hard business and fortunately you have a good product seeing as your place is packed. You reminded me how busy you guys are but had time to sit there and argue with as if my time wasn't precious as well. that's why I order from you on Fridays to treat myself after a long hard week. You are going to have ups and downs and your pantry chef burnt the garlic but ultimately it reflects on you since your name is attached to the product. I doubt this review will hardly make a difference seeing as the many times I've been there it's packed but when you have a unique product you'll have ups and downs where
other people represent you. Today was a big downer for me! Luckily I don't ever have to bother anymore with your product. It turned out to be a huge waste of my time.
If you have not tried Detroit style pizza before, you might be surprised. It is a deep dish style pizza and more like focaccia than pizza. The dough itself takes over the cheese and toppings. The cheese is not a lot and blended very well with the toppings. We ordered kale salad, broccoli, mushroom nettle and peach pizza. I liked the mushroom nettle the most. It is very rare to see nettle used as food in US, so it surprised me in a good way.Broccoli one was spicy. Each pizza has 6 square slice and quite filling. We were party of four and three pizza were too much for us.The service is laid back and you order and pick up your own food from the counter. There was no one available for asking questions or help. The interior decor is clean and there are few tables at outside patio. The price of the pizza is high compared to service.Parking: Limited free parking by the side if the restaurant. You might need to park on the street as the parking lot is small

We were treated to Bookies by a Detroit native who said this was the closest she has ever gotten to being back home for this style pizza. The offerings had an impressive style with top notch ingredients. I sadly didn't take photos. We had:The Nduja, Anchovy Pineapple pizza on gluten free crust. You would never know this crust is gf. It was crispy around the edges, and perfectly chewy in the center. The boquerones were perfectly placed to have one on every slice. They were citrus marinated, not too salty and complimented the spices of nduja and sweetness of pineapple. Delicious!Maitake mushroom wings were epic! They were crunchy and buffalo style. I've made them at home but this guy has a tried and true technique. It's a must try for sure. The green goddess salad was made with mixed greens, avocado dressing and generously topped with nutritional yeast. I ate every last bite. Omg so good!
