What a big disappointment! We came here because it was highly recommended by our friends and all the positive reviews. Upon entering, the ambiance was very nice, but we were ushered to the second room in the back, which looked to be a convered outdoor area. It was well heated but didn't offer the same atmosphere as the main area. Ordered the oxtail dumplings, octopus skewers, hanger steak, and black cod. The ingredients of the food all seem very fresh, but unfortunately, the octopus skewers and oxtail dumplings were inedible because it was extremely salty! I tried to rinse off the salt by washing it with my water to no avail. Had to spit out what ended up in my mouth because it was just too salty. Personally, I like well seasoned food but it was just overly salted. The hanger steak was nicely prepared and the only dish that was properly seasoned. The risotto that came with the fish, and what I was looking forward to eating was so salty I couldn't even eat it. The staff seemed to understand our feedback and took out one of the appetizers for us, but honestly, more than half the dishes were just not edible and poorly executed. Service was mediocre. Not bad, not great. The food all came out quickly. I like the Asian fusiom concept, but it was poorly executed and a miss for us. I rater go to a Chinese restaurant and eat better prepared food for a fraction of the price. Honestly, the experience was not good at all and toally not worth it.

The restaurant needs to buy one can of WD-40 to fix their squeaky front door. Had to wait 20 minutes outside the front door waiting for our table (which was not a big deal) but for the incredibly squeaky front door which opens repeatedly. Everyone waiting for their table was getting a headache. Food was great. I won't return until I know that door is fixed.

We had a party of over 20 people last night for a birthday celebration. We worked with the chef prior to the event to pick our a menu with 3 meal options. We picked our side dishes and deserts that were served family style. The service was fantastic and the food was phenomenal. Everyone loved the food and especially the oxtail dumplings. Everything was first class and exceeded our expectations. It made for a very special night.

I came here one other time for birthday and I enjoyed the meal! I came back with my mom and it wasn't as good as before. We both noted that the food was pretty oily/greasy. Much more than I experienced last time. I'm not sure if something has changed. We ordered the oxtail which is really good! But I found a piece of bone in one of my bites, and I get that sometimes these things happen, but it really turned me off. The strawberry pastry dessert was amazing though. 10/10
During my visit to LA from DC, a local friend recommended Tar & Roses in Santa Monica for dinner, and it exceeded expectations. DC boasts unique and outstanding restaurants, so experiencing the same level of quality elsewhere is always appreciated. The staff was attentive, the ambience was both intimate and lively, creating a delightful evening. The standout was the food—starting with oxtail dumplings and glazed ribs, followed by entrees like black cod and the impressive shellfish pot. The portion sizes were generous, and the shellfish pot's silky, creamy, and spicy broth made it a highlight. I look forward to booking another dinner reservation when I'm in town again.

Incredible selection of charcuterie, with different nuts and jams. I’d like to sit at the bar on date night. I can’t believe they’re not open on Sundays. It was the best place to go before the Toledo show at Harvelles any given Sunday night.

We met friends for dinner and the experience was top-notch right from the start. The service was outstanding and the food was great. Fun atmosphere with a wood-fired theme. Wine list was excellent (only wine and beer FYI) and a good time was had by all. Will definitely go back.

The food was not that great; everything was bland and not worth the price.
