Efficient reservation and host check in. Nice ambiance. It gets busy. Impressive menu selection, both hot and cold. They have a wide selection of sushi to choose from outside your standard fare. Surprisingly I enjoyed the cauliflower as one of the top bites. Incredibly seasoned. The sea bass and uni were also very nice. I enjoyed trying a selection of fish. Servers were efficient and friendly enough. I'd definitely recommend and return.

Was fortunate enough to make reservations the night before for a Sunday night dinner Parking was semi challenging and we had 5 PM reservations. We ordered the Omakase and had hot sake. It was traditional, with some sauces added on top of the fish, but nothing really remarkable stood out to me. The fish was fresh and they had fresh wasabi and a delightful steamed egg dish

I've eaten at this spot a few times and absolutely love the atmosphere and food. They're always playing my favorite jazz and old school jams, which brings the space to life, aside from the spaced out chatter of happy and hungry customers. My sister and I sat at one of the high top tables outside, which felt private and we appreciated never feeling rushed within the 2 hours we were there. To start we got the agedashi tofu, toro and caviar, zuke sake, and tuna sashimi. The cut of both fish were excellent! The tofu was perfectly cooked and the sauce was by far the best I've had with agedashi tofu. For our main meal we got two rolls, the kaisen futo-maki and spicy tuna. The kaisen futo-maki roll tasted a bit earthy, which we didn't love, but the fish was delicious. The spicy tuna was very fresh and delicious! For dessert, we thought we'd end the night with something warm and got the miso soup and house tea which was soothing after a long dinner. I usually get the miso glazed cod and recommend to anyone going to try this spot!

I made a reservation for my wife and son and myself for my wife's birthday tonight. They asked if it was ok for us to sit outside. I said no it was my wife's birthday we would like a table inside for 3. They sat us in an area of the restaurant that I'd not been in before. Not so nice decor , noisy. Washing machines etc. We ordered food. It was delivered ..we were asked to hold plates of food while they figured out where to place them in the table. The food and service were second rate (being kind, ate at Ebisu a few days before) The fish was not great (old).. just to add a qualifier we've eaten all over in Japan, states etc. So after the meal they asked how it was and at the risk of making my wife uncomfortable I said not great. Then the host comes to our table to ask what was wrong. I was polite and tried to quickly explain. She continued asking, saying " if you had asked to be seated in the more formal area it would be better". I replied that I had informed them it was my wife's birthday and I wanted a nice table for three indoors. Then she went on to tell us how she would check her notes from my reservation etc. I had to cut her off to end the conversation so we could try to go back to having a nice night out. My advice ? Don't eat here. Food is not on point and service needs to be trained much better.. also Should there be different quality's of food and service depending which section you seated in? The Prices are the same...... Cheers

Another tasty sushi restaurant. It will charge you $8 for one piece of nigiri, not offer japanese pickles (a sign of authentic j food) except daikon for $7; it will make you pay hard for food while playing retro American pop. I went for pickles and a Japanese peacefulness. Did not find it here.

Unbelievably amazing. The beautiful smoked hamachi, the roll, the black cod, all the fish is golden! The sake was beautiful -- so full of flavor, I mean the regular hot sake. Will be back.

Went to Sushi Ran on Sat and did not disappoint The quality of the fish and attention to detail was amazing. Crunchy Roll cooks have been deep fried. Instead, they added crunchy bits that made it crunch yet was super fresh. Toro belly with caviar was maybe the best I've had. And the unagi nigiri was 2x the usual size and delicious. The service was spot on. Drinks arrived quickly and didn't have to wait long for anything. They checked in on us to ensure everything was okay even when we arrived on time and had to wait for our table. Thank you Sushi Ran. Still the envy of the Bay.

We have loved Sushi Ran for years but were disappointed in both service and food - the sushi was bland and Service nothing like but we had come to expect. We felt like we were extras at the restaurant.

Nomnomnom

Best restaurant in Marin! Pillowy dumplings, light tempura, the best salads - mixed green, seaweed, seafood, sunomono - sushi, sashimi, crunch rolls, udon soup, miso glazed fish - you can not get a bad dish here. It's all fresh and delicious, made with love, served with attention. And 10 extra stars for finding our lost wallet. Love you guys - thank you!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Mediocre and overpriced Ate there last night. Family of 4 adults, one child. The food: we've had sushi all over Asia and the $70 premium platter was just average. The fish was store-bought quality and they used a member of the kitchen staff to present (who didn't know the names of the all the fish!) The plating was boring and you could even see some of the fish was dry. Very underwhelming. The wagyu steak, 5oz at almost $50 was just ok. I asked it cooked to chef's preference which the waiter said was rare/medium rare but it kept cooking and the last slice was medium by the time I got to it. Should've come rare. The same vegetables were on Every plate we ordered- broccolini, cauliflower and purple yam. Why no more variety? The yams were room temp and the broccolini Way over salted. The Brussels sprout appetizer was tiny shavings in a small bowl. Oily and over salted. We didn't even finish. Chicken dish for our child was weird. Supposed to be grilled but was smothered in a strange miso-ish sauce that seemed to have a thickener. We don't drink so $290-way was overpriced (our teen had 2 Shirley Temples and they charged for the second-$8.50 for both.) I last went to Sushi Ran about 15 years ago and still recall that meal. Won't be back. PS. They have a Michelin star?
