Closed a the kitchen hour early bc they were “slow” food tastes great if you can try to predict what time the kitchen and waitress decide it closes that day. Hope the owner knows.

My wife regarding the to-go GF pancakes…“They were so good, I’ve been dreaming of these… I couldn’t stop eating them.”Hard to come by great GF pancakes. Plenty of whip cream and syrup for the to-go order too.Great ambiance, friendly staff, owners Flavia & Ed are very helpful.Support your community!

I don’t usually review restaurants. My friends and I went to Sunny side for a birthday brunch. We were a group of 8.Our drinks came out first. Three of us ordered the oat milk lattes and the milk had obviously gone bad and curdled. The server apologized and brought out new drinks. Then the coffee cup, white inside, had food stuck on the sides. Then the server brought a new cup and this one was dirty too. Finally 3rd time around I got a clean cup. Then to top it all one of our friends, found a 2-3 inch piece of plastic in the middle of her pancake!!!We are all locals and would have loved to visit this restaurant more frequently. They do have a good menu and a great location, however after our experience yesterday I question the cleanliness of this establishment and fear that next time we won’t be so lucky to see the plastic before it goes into our mouths!Deeply disturbing and disappointing experience.

Perfect brunch spot! My friends and I met here for our brunch ritual. The bottomless mimosas flowed from the beginning to the end! Food was delicious but the service was even better thanks to Heidi! We will definitely be back.

This place was very nice and the food was good. The only thing that kind of bothered me was we were charged a credit card use fee without being told. It was high too. Also, the coffee could be better, the cinnamon roll was very dry, but that could be just a bad batch. I sent it back. I'd go again but pay cash.

Place was beautiful and the outdoor seating is perfect for a Sunday brunch. We got the HWY 101 and Short Rib Benedict! Very delicious and hearty. They also brought out a water bowl for our furry friend.

Remember Beach Grass Cafe? Same thing same waiter(s) changed look for older crowd maybe? I tried the Chilaquiles but the waiter asked if I wanted steak or chicken I chose steak. Avocado? Sure! I knew the avocado was extra but didn't realize the meat was not part of the dish. If it was good I'd be fine paying the $16 extra (+$4 for the avo) but it was a thin very tough piece with so much gristle I had to pull half of each bite out of my mouth because I couldn't chew through it! So awful. The regular Chilaquiles w/o the extras was probably pretty good but insult to injury I can never go back.Parking: not hard

I was so excited about trying this restaurant. I had there veggie omlet and my hsuband had the one of the toasts with egg and bacon. it took about a hour for our order to come out. the restaurant was 30% full. The coffee was burnt and the omelet was runny inside not cooked and the toast came out cold, cold bacon, cold eggs on top. We had waited so long we ate didnt mention and got outta of there. It was not a good experience.

My husband and I have eaten brunch here several times. We liked everything that we had (pancakes, chorizo burrito, scrambowl, omelette). However, they didn’t tell us that there was a $6 additional charge for substituting fruit for potatoes until we got the bill. In addition of not appreciating not being told when I made the substitution, the $6 surcharge seems a bit steep compared to similar establishments that either allow substitutions for free or at a much more reasonable cost (e.g., $2-3). Also the service was only excellent 2 of the 4 times we went when he had the young man who serves outside on weekends. He was outstanding but the other were ‘meh’.

Full disclosure.... We found Sunny Side Solana by chance. Visiting relatives in San Diego, we enjoy having lunch at Beach Grass Cafe. Well, sadly, this fine cafe closed its doors during COVID. The good news is that the doors are open again, welcoming Sunny Side to the Solana Beach neighborhood. We were greeted by the owner, who was friendly and informative, and seated quickly. The servers were attentive and helpful, offering suggestions and checking on us often. The restaurant has the good feel we remember with Beach Grass along with some updates that give it a brighter, cleaner lift. It was pleasant to take in the artistic details. My husband and I shared the fried calamari with marinara sauce and the grilled chicken with onions and goat cheese sandwich with fries. The calamari was fine though it lacked flavor. The sandwich was really tasty. Breakfast items looked yummy. Hope we can return soon to give these entrees a try.

Yes, yes, and YES! If you're ever in Solana Beach I highly recommend you make time from brunch at this place. This place has caught my eye while riding the Amtrak up to LA, but knew very little about it.I was lucky enough to finally experience it this past Saturday. We arrived a little after 11 where we were greeted by the owner who sat us within minutes. The place was packed with people of all types; mothers with their little girls, groups of friends, to couples like ourselves. The have indoor and outdoor (patio) seating both of which have very light and welcoming decor. Our server came over about 10 min after we'd sat to get our drink orders and see if we had questions about the menu - which we did because everything looked great. We ended up doing bottomless mimosas, iced latte, chilaquiles, and the steak and eggs. Chilaquiles were ok (I'm very picky when it comes to these) but the 14oz ribeye they brought out for my husband definitely takes the cake. Very nicely cooked with great flavor and perfect eggs to complement each bite. For being busy the owner made time to check in and have conversation with us - where we learned he's also part of Farmed Table one of our faves. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and made we were taken care of from start to finish. We'll definitely be coming back to try out the rest of the menu!

Service was amazing, the atmosphere was quite relaxing and it wasn't busy when I went around 1pm. However, the food was bland and not worth the price paid. Chilaquiles were fine but again missing on the salsa verde and seasoning, salmon was just bland and not a well dressed salad.

This was our first time at Sunny Side Solana but it will not be our last. The service was amazing and the food quite delicious. We enjoyed a more traditional breakfast as well as the chicken and waffles. Both were quite good. We also tried the traditional roasted potatoes. Highly recommend.
