Love the store. Probably the only place in the Bay area that has quality Hilsa from Bangladedh.. Mutton is pretty great too.

This review is for their goat biryani, nothing else. I am sure their grocery store and other food are quite good.I don't think I have ever eaten a goat biriyani worse than what we bought from deshi bazaar. It was so so oily, if I would have thrown it away if I weren't super hungry. The biryani had no redeeming quality - the meat was very chewy, rice didn't feel like the usual biryani rice.

Best place get fresh fish, chicken and mutton. Lots bengali sweet options are available. Love the place and people are also very helpful.

Very few items are marked with price-sticker and you realize during/after payment! Purchased a liter of mustard oil (Dabur) for $10.99 (no price was indicated in the shelf or on the item) only to discover the item available for $6.99 at India Cash & Carry (a mile away from this store)! Similar experience with other items too!P. S. It's unpleasant to write this about my community store, but I think the owner need to know and address price issue for their own interest. I still go there for sweet-water fish (from Bangladesh) and goat/lamb meat, but I avoid even looking at their other products. It's important to maintain reasonable price (and that too with clear indication at shelf/on product) to remain competitive in the business! We like this store to survive for years to come and provide good service to our community!

This time I visited them few times for deshi groceries. Customer service is improved, no push sales. At the time of check out, gentleman reminded me to check expiry date for whole milk. That was a good reminder because the one I picked up that was about to expire in a day or two. Fish price is reasonable and cutting cost is 4 dollars now. I think previous I paid 5. The new young folk who is in Butcher shop is kind enough to make my packing the way my father ask for. Overall experience is excellent ?. Will come back soon.

I was really excited to get Bangladeshi food from them in an event. Got morogh polao and fish. However, I got food poisoning. My friend also ate the food and saw the same symptoms, which confirmed that food from them caused it. My symptoms were so bad that I had to see a doctor to alleviate it. As I am scrolling through previous reviews, I see some comments about expired food and food hygiene. To the owner: Please take more precautions for maintaining food hygiene. It can severely affect your customers’ wellbeing.Edit: Thanks for responding. I’m not allergic to peanut. My symptoms were not related to allergies. I got food poisoning.Your food is delicious. I hope you will take better care of the food hygiene.

Saw fungus in Papad packets and seems like best before date was intentionally erased. Please check before buying packaged food.

Good collection but most of the items are overpriced. There is a 3$ fish cleaning fee didn't see coming and there was no price tag also. Later surprised with the price. Normally I buy from different shops. Will think twice to buy fish and meats from there again.

I ordered hilsa curry from this place. Before placing the order I asked the owner repeatedly if the curry had any onions in it to which he said "none". When I opened the box to eat the fist for dinner I saw that the entire curry was made of onion paste and was too sweet with no salt or mustard. I called the owner and explained the situation where he started saying he was not too sure how much mustard I wanted while ignoring the main issue about the onion. After 10 mins of conversation he did not take any responsibility or did not apologize for the mistake but asked me to take the food back. So he sold me something that I did not order knowingly and paid for and then asked me to take the food back when I had nothing to eat for dinner. So all this was my fault when he was not telling the truth and sold me something that I did not ask for. No apologies but was screaming at me over the phone without addressing the main issue. He needs to understand that people might have food allergies and when he is selling food with ingredients that was asked not to be placed in the cooked food he should avoid it. But to make a sale he did not tell the truth and gave something that was not ordered by the customer.

Erstwhile bangla bazaar, great place to find variety of indian fishes. They also descale and cut fish which is a great help !! Also have a variety of Indian and Bangladeshi grocery items.

Great place to find Bengali fishes, different kinds of rice, and other niche spices and products local to Bengali cuisine. They can also descale your fish for a nominal price and that saves you a lot of time! Helpful service as well.
