Well, let me tell you about my utterly disappointing excursion to the Old Range Steak House. Traveled all the way from the picturesque shores of Hawaii, expecting to indulge in the finest steaks Lake Tahoe has to offer, only to be met with a flavorless catastrophe. The service was as tasteless as the food itself. We ordered the rib eye steak, hoping for a culinary adventure, but they couldn't even handle a basic charbroil, let alone anything fancier like black and blue or Pittsburgh style. The service? Utterly bland, lacking any semblance of personality. We were practically greeted with a cold shoulder. Our server graced our table a mere four times, barely acknowledging our existence beyond taking orders and serving food. And let's talk about the braised beef – no flavor whatsoever, and certainly not the moist, fall-apart tenderness one would expect.Dessert? Forget about it. We didn't even bother, given the lackluster performance thus far. And to add insult to injury, they had the audacity to tack on a service fee, citing our party size. A party of eight, including four adults and four kids under six – hardly a reason to justify such a fee.Needless to say, I won't be returning, and I feel obliged to warn my fellow carnivores in search of a decent cut of meat around these parts.

We hadn't dined at the Old Range in years, but we decided to celebrate a special birthday here this past weekend - and we really enjoyed it. It was quiet the night we went, and the staff gave us a nice table. Great lake views. The restaurant has been updated but it hasn't lost charm - and actually the rear room is just as old timey as we recall. The food was very good and is actually less expensive than it seems from the menu, because the meals are HUGE and many people will want to share them. My son, an 18 year old athlete, could only eat about half his gnocchi. My husband and I shared a Cowboy prime rib and wished we'd ordered the Cowgirl - we had to bring about half home! The sides are all designed to be shared and we couldn't finish those either. We brought a bottle of wine that we like and didn't mind the $30 corkage fee. It was a fun, relaxing evening and we will be back.

As my teenage daughter and I drove along the waterfront from Incline Village through Kings Beach and Tahoe Vista, I spotted Old Range Steakhouse and pulled over. It was closed, but a woman waiting at the door said it opened at 5 p.m. I checked the menu and got my daughter out of the car. I love steakhouses. So tonight was going to be a treat. When we got to the door, it had just opened. The server put us at a downstairs table with a waterfront view. I was surprised because it could easily fit 6. Teresa was our server. I ordered a Manhattan Bulleit Rye and my daughter had a Sprite. The glass was festive, and our server poured it from the cocktail shaker into my glass at the table. Fun! There was a smidge more than a glass, so she left it in the shaker in case I wanted to top off my cocktail. Spoiler alert, I did! My daughter and I wanted the same thing, petite filets. The order came with roasted garlic mashed potatoes. We also ordered creamed spinach to share. I prefer steamed or sauteed, but I acquiesced. It was a vegetable, and she asked nicely. Some warm brown bread and creamy butter were brought out to start. We enjoyed! Pretty quickly our mains and spinach arrived. Both were cooked to order and different. "It was really good," said my teen. Wow! And I thought mine was scrumptious. So that was a win for us. Excellent work, Chef Jaime. The tab came to $132.15 plus a $26 tip. We didn't have dessert because we had just indulged in Chef Sahid's pastries at the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa, and Casino's Tahoe Provisions & Tahoe To Go. The pastries were out of this world! We will be back. Often, I should add. The tab came to $16.49 plus a $3 tip.

Amazing food, service, ambience. It's the real deal! Prime rib, filet & rib eye were all delicious! Oh and don't miss the brownie dessert!

The place is like you'd imagine a nice old fashioned steak house. Dark, lots of wood, lots of character. The food selection is great and the food is probably great. We had a bad waitress that ruined everything. All our dishes arrived 'warm' since they'd been sitting around for 10 minutes or so before being brought to us. That difference was obvious when we sent back the overcooked salmon and the new dish that arrived was actually hot.She was rude upon taking our order and we kept having to ask another waitress to ask our waitress to come to our table...

Such a well executed Steak House. Dimly lit, cozy, great steak cuts, nice wines and tasty cocktails. I've been coming here for many years and look forward to it and love it each time. Love the Caesar Salad too! Last night my gal and I shared a bottle of Caymus one of our favorite wines. Do it!!!

The entrees were excellent but the service and appetizers were nothing to write home about and the salad was a joke. The restaurant was also so dark my husband had to use a flashlight to read the menu. For us living further away I don't know that we'd make the drive unless someone else we knew was really set on going there.

Do you want a perfectly done steak, fantastic wine selection, and super cozy atmosphere after a day on the slopes? Then Old Range is where you'll want to set the GPS to! This place is a favorite every time we're in Tahoe. Your tastebuds will be satisfied and your soul content.

Food was okay. Salads and desserts were great. Prime rib was okay but nothing special. The tenderloin tips were more like a stew so not great. Ambiance is good although dark for reading menu. Service was great.

While our food was very good, our interaction with the hostess was not pleasing. She was rude and condescending. Our waitress was ok, she started caring and being nice at “tip” time.

Hostess and waitress could have given a s—-. Made a suggestion to have white wine options and hostess walked away. Food was very good. Waitress was less than attentive. Overall experience was not

Stopped in and they accommodated us without reservation. I think we got lucky, so make sure to make a reservation! Great food, nice ambiance, good drinks and a wall of wine... which is always a nice touch! So... we walked up to the door and didn't identify it as a door so it took us a second to get into the restaurant. Then we watched several other groups of people walk the external perimeter of the restaurant looking for a door. I don't know if the business needs an external light by the door or a kick plate on it or if it's because the door is solid... I can't explain this phenomenon. I just know, it clearly wasn't just us with this issue. I'm just going to say that if it looks like a door, pull on it. You will look and feel far more stupid for walking up to the door, doing nothing and then walking the perimeter of the building than you will just pulling on a handle or two. Mistakes were made. Learn from ours.
