This restaurant offers 100% authentic and excellent Sri Lankan food, made with love by an experienced chef. They never disappoint here!

I've been wanting to come to apey kade since seeing the raving reviews + the chicken kottu pictures. needless to say it didn't disappoint. there aren't a lot of sri lankan restaurants in the US, so it feels like a hidden gem in california. They also cover pretty much everything you could ever want here- from appa to pittu + all the short eats you can think of. I also got the vegetable lamprais & the parippu & eggplant in particular were both amazing. I was overwhelmed and wanted to try everything but they give ample portions so i'll definitely be back for more!! the restaurant itself is a hole in the wall (which i love) - really small with about 5-6 tables i would say and then the kitchen itself. it kind of creates an intimate experience with the owner/cook able to communicate with us at all times. it made for a rlly cohesive experience. I'll definitely be back & would recommend to anyone , but especially any sri lankans out there looking for a taste of home

Truly enjoyed this place and would recommend to anyone looking to try Sri Lankan food. The service was amazing and the manager actually had a good chat with me while he made my food. I'll definitely be back!! Ordered a bunch of different dishes but the chicken curry was my favorite. Will be back to try more things soon

Really great small business with very flavorful food! We come here at-least 2 times a month at this point and truly love the food and customer service from the owners. Will continue to come back!

Apey Kade is the sort of restaurant that makes you happy and proud to live in Los Angeles. I've eaten here three times in the past few months and always leave with a huge smile on my face. The flavor combinations are unlike any other cuisine I've tried, and the meals are generously portioned and prepared with love and pride. I always go for the vegetarian string hopper -- a bed of noodles that serves as a palette for the coconut curry and chef's selection of freshly prepared and richly flavorful vegetables (today's included spicy beet roots and fried okra). It's a total gem of a restaurant and I can't wait to return for the next adventure.

A small authentic Sri Lankan Restaurant. Small but with mighty dishes! Very delicious food especially their string hoppers and lamprais. Owners are very friendly and sweet. Do not go to over priced Sri Lankan restaurants in LA, go here instead where there is a guarantee of experiencing original Sri Lankan food that you won't regret! Highly recommended!

Apey Kade, in my opinion, still reigns as the dominant force in providing authentic Sri Lankan Cuisine to all the Los Angeles area and neighboring Environs. I constantly post numerous pictures overtime, so I am not going to do so in this review. Let it be known, this restaurant has stood the test of time, over the decades, was on the Los Angeles Best 101 Restaurants list for several years, till they were recently dropped off the 2023 list. Surprising and shameful for the LA Times, who clearly seem to have a bias for only certain types of food. Anyway, it is the newspaper's loss. But what bothers me, is they deprive the LA foodies of discovering an island cuisine that is unique and unmatched in spices, flavors, textures and taste. This small restaurant resides at the junction of Corbin and Ventura Boulevard in Tarzana. It is helmed by a Sri Lankan team - wife Niza (Chef de Cuisine) and husband Lalith (Sous Chef and more). Their eatery is abundant with all the food types a Sri Lankan would travel miles and hours to savor. Chef Niza, does an amazing job with the short eats, string hoppers, rice and curry offerings, pol sambol, to name a few. Chef Lalith, handles the kothu roti, hoppers and other delicacies. Long and short is, that this place is an inviting and "must go to", ethnic dining destination. Their food is fresh, well prepared and magnetic, because you always have to come back. On top of that, Chefs Niza and Lalith, offer high class customer service, always a warm welcome and engage in stimulating dialogue to heighten this unforgettable dining experience at their restaurant.

We were in the area and came to try this place on a whim. The place is cozy with maybe 5 tables and seems like a mom and pop place. We weren't sure what to order, and asked them for recommendations. We go the string hopper meal with beef, chicken lamprais, and a plain rotti. For us it was so interesting and so delicious! I've never had this before but the spices and flavors were so rich, and a nice kick too. I also loved the rotti, a bit of crispy bits, a bit of chewiness, a bit of burnt flavor. As we were dining in, they got calls and we heard that they were sold out it or running low on some stuff. The place was very clean, including the bathroom and the owners (?)/staff(?) we talked to were super friendly and easy going and joked with us, asked us where we were coming from etc. we'll definitely be back for more Sri Lankan goodness!

Had so much expectation to go eat in apey kade... but for the price what we are giving items are very less very limited rice and only one veg and Lil curry in the bowl Papad.. is not at all worth 17$Mutton kottu roti is another flop..meat is very old and they are freezing the kottu roti itself and defrosting it and heating it and giving the old meat smell we can smell. On top of everything since we are traveling we asked Lil water to fill for the kid in a small bottle she saidNo.. you need to buy the bottle. The man looks Lil kind.
