I moved to Ventura County about 2 years ago for my job and was expecting very few if any authentic Chinese restaurants in the area. Then I found this place on Yelp and am so thankful that this restaurant exists. Instead of driving all the way to San Gabriel, this is truly a gem. Authentic Hunan dishes, without the extra oil and salt, food is perfectly delicious. This place has been my family's favorite go-to take out place since the pandemic. In fact, my cousin drives from Torrance to visit this restaurant! I've tried many dishes on the menu and my favorites have been: 1. the mashed eggplant and thousand egg dish, such a special dish and it's the only restaurant where I've seen this dish 2. Vegetable medley. I actually started stir-frying vegetables like this dish at home because it's healthy and tasty. 3. Shrimp fried rice reminds me of fried rice from my childhood in Shanghai 4. Sweet & sour fish - tastes just like the dish in China 5. Beef with chili, such a classic with great chili flavors and the heat not overpowering. 6. The pickled chili with chicken, so flavorful and spicy. Love it! Please keep this little restaurant alive and support them!

Most authentic Chinese food in the area. This place is not for those expecting westernized food. Recommend their Stinky tofu.

I'm a Chinese food snob. I like my Chinese food cooked with high heat, resulting in smokiness in the food. I like Chinese food without the goopy brown sauce you find in so many Chinese restaurants. Dong Ting Spring is authentic and doesn't compromise its ingredients to please bland taste buds. I have yet to be disappointed with anything I have ordered here, but I must recommend their stone pot lamb and their Hunan friend rice. They never disappoint and the prices are for huge portions. I have not found a better Chinese spot in the area, without having to venture into Monterey Park area.

My dad spent some time in China and he says the food is so comforting and authentic. I agree! We've been eating here for years and it never disappoints. I highly recommend eating here if you get the chance :)

We ordered the roast duck, beef rolls, and the vegetable medley and had a picnic date in the park. The phone ordering was easy and the food was quickly prepared. The customer service was great and the food was really tasty. Highly recommended!

Moving to Thousand Oaks I was skeptical about finding authentic Chinese flavors and dishes especially growing up in the San Gabriel Valley. I am very, very happy Dong Ting Spring exists to bring me back to my happy place when I am craving a familiar taste of home. We ordered takeout dinner for the Lunar New Year celebration and I was looking for the usual celebration dishes and this restaurant had them and with great reviews! We ordered: - Chef's special beef noodle soup | Noodles for longevity! - Shrimp fried rice | shrimp for fortune! - Dumplings and soup dumplings (xiao long bao) | Dumplings for wealth! All of these dishes were flavorful and great tasting. I would order each of them again except for the soup dumplings. The soup dumplings tasted just fine and most would enjoy them, but as someone who has had a lot of them over the years is a little pickier. 4 stars instead of 5 due to the restaurant taking longer than noted in preparing our food which in return required the delivery person to wait there for almost 45 mins. I don't mind that our food was late, but felt bad for the delivery person having their time affected. Excited to try other dishes from this place in the future! Jessica

Stopped by several times for a quick diner, I absolutely loved it! The menu has an amazing selection between unusual dishes & some well-known delights. As I was by myself, I had a quick dinner and moved along, but this is a great place to stay an longer evening to enjoy the food. The restaurant served no alcohol.A doggybag for your left-overs is more than common, as the portions are quite big.

Very delicious and authentic Hunan cuisine! This place offers some of the best fried rice I’ve ever eaten. The Hunan fried rice covered all the bases: spiciness balanced with some light sweetness and tang. I greatly recommend this place to anyone who’s tired of eating inauthentic Chinese food from Panda Express and places of the sorts.

This place is an authentic Chinese restaurant, a rare-find in Thousand Oaks. Last night I placed the takeout order for the first time, and they didn't disappoint. I ordered the following: 1) Stir-fried pork intestines - a bit on the salty side and some of the intestine slices are a bit charred, but overall a tasty dish. Not as spicy as it looks. 2) Roast duck - about 2 dozen duck meat slices on a bed of steamed cabbages and broccoli. Definitely not Canton style as its name in Chinese suggested. Vegi was cooked very well, still crunchy and naturally sweet. Duck meat itself tasted ok. 3) House special braised pork - a great dish to go with steamed rice. Definitely will go back and stick with the Hunan dishes that they are specialized in. Tip on placing order over the phone: their phone do not have call waiting function and it may take a few attempts to get connected. Be patient!

Delicious!!! Several friends recommended and I finally had an opportunity to try. The menu is not for the frail or those not willing to expand out of traditional American style Chinese food and or cuisine...... This is not that so be warned. This restaurant caters primary to those of Chinese heritage or those who are in the know. The food is big on heat and character. Some dishes need to be ordered ahead and are only learned thru trial and error. Unless you know heat, don't venture past medium. So far everything has been great.

Traditional style Hunan food! For those that don’t know, almost everything here is spicy, and it is amazing!!Farmer’s Pork (with peppers) no need to say anything more.Enjoy every time I order here.
