I was really hoping this place would be as good as Sushi Garden. It's nowhere near as good. Sushi Garden was not necessarily authentic but in line with most places you go. Katana missed the mark on every item we ordered. The seasonings, sauces, dressings, and ingredients just don't taste right. Before I get blasted for leaving a negative review I'll defend myself with the fact that I am Japanese. I don't know what we just ate, but it wasn't good Japanese food. The only thing that tastes normal was the rice and soy sauce. Tempura: texture and seasoning in the Panko is off Miso soup: oddly strong with an overpowering soy or fish sauce taste Salad: ingredients are odd. Dressing had a hint of the correct taste but overpowered by a smoky nutty flavor 4 sushi rolls: all off. Ingredients were an odd texture, too much mayo on some of them, and sauces were strange. Hand roll: so covered in sriracha it was not edible The other issue is the prices. They are far more expensive than Sushi Garden and the food really is terrible. I NEVER write reviews but I just can't let someone pay that kind of money for the food that was served. I will end on two positive notes. My son did like his meat in his meal. He's 11 so....take that with a grain of salt. Our server, Luke, was very nice and attentive. Sad to say we won't be back.

Definitely don't recommend. My husband and I came here for our anniversary and it was definitely not worth what we paid. Not worth much at all to be honest. The food was so bad. I don't know if it was the fact that we came in about an hour and a half before closing and they were just trying to rush us out or what but the food was so horrible. Completely uneven. Some sushi rolls had way too much rice and could barely taste the filling. Others had way too much tempura so that's basically all you could taste. And they would all fall apart as soon as you tried to pick it up. It was such a waste and a disappointment

Our family was a regular here, but we're not going back. The to-go order we picked up was not complete and the staff at the restaurant deny that the order was incomplete. We would not make this up. Our son had to resort to eating something else because they did not complete the order. Check your order before leaving the place. We're never going back.

This has been My favorite spot in Turlock for many years, I've been coming to this spot since it was known as Sushi Garden ll. The food is good and Everyone has always been friendly. My husband and I went to grab dinner one night at about 8:15pm, they close at 9pm. When we walked in a girl in the back who was making sushi made a face at another worker when she saw us come in. I thought it was kinda rude, but just brushed it off. I even saw her do it to others that walked in after us lol. Also right when we walked in they were quick to turn off their open sign before it was even 8:30, even though their hours on the door say 9:00pm. Maybe change your restaurant hours if you want to close earlier?

Sushi is great, but DO NOT order togo. Takes waaaay too long. Called an hour and a half on a Monday and was seeing people dine in that got served before I got my order. No explanation or updates. Will look elsewhere for togo next time.

I ordered a sashimi lunch to go. I bought it to my wife for her lunch. Surprise. No sashimi. Called restaurant. No answer.

I used to love going to this place when it was Sushi Garden II. The customer service and the food was great. Since changing over to Katana, it feels like it's been declining. My order was placed over the phone and when I went to pick up it up it was incorrect. Instead of remaking it or even just offering to fix it. The employee just shrugged their shoulder and said that that is what the tag said. I literally stated at least twice that the order was incorrect and just continued to get shrugs. I was too flustered at the response that I just left with the incorrect order. Super disappointed by the lack of customer service. This along with the decline in the quality of food makes me not want to go back anymore.

My son and I had lunch here for the first time. I got the teriyaki beef and he, the teriyaki chicken. When the food arrived the plates were packed. Besides the beef and chicken we each got a bowl of rice, four California rolls, salad, potato salad and tempura veggies. Neither of us could finish our plates. Each item was delicious and I felt we got our money's worth. Can't wait to go back to explore more of the menu. They have several styles of Udon, so definitely going back!

Better quality of fish than the last time I tried this restaurant but sliced razor thin on the sashimi plates, great service. The tables were a little dirty. The prices were above average for the rolls but other than that it was okay

Anybody who rated this place over 1-2 stars has never been to a real sushi restaurant. Service was great but I tolerate bad service much more than i do bad food (esp sushi).

Pretty good service. We stopped in for Father's Day lunch here and the food was decent. By no means the best sushi I have ever had but not the worst. My kids ordered a chicken teri roll which my son who dosent like sushi enjoyed. My daughter who's middle name is Harmony ordered a Harmony roll but the garlic sauce was over powering and the scallops were fishy. Mine was a tempera roll which was good and a spicy tuna roll. The spicy tuna roll had a lot of tombiko fish eggs on top which we were not expecting. All in all a decent lunch.

Absolutely zero personality inside the restaurant. Poor service. We had to ask for everything...plates, chopsticks, napkins, more water then even our bill. Rock music playing which takes away from it being a high end Japanese restaurant. Boring bar. Everything is too plain. The tables look cafeteria tables. Miso soup was SUPER salty. There was food UNDER our plates (too rushed to wipe down before serving I guess or just don't care). They took our water glasses to refill and had no idea who to give it to upon return. (Water should always be served table side for that reason)! I'm sorry, it's supposed to be a high end Japanese restaurant but it's only that in the prices. And finally, it should be open earlier than noon. It's across the street from a college. It should be open earlier and stay open late. I do recall the previous Sushi Garden having more personality.

Came here after searching for lunch locations on yelp. They have a cute outdoor seating area with fans. They also have a bar which is new from the last time I came. We had a spider roll, California roll and their chicken Katsu. All three dishes were delicious just took a while to be served. We did wait a while to get our drinks, food and had to ask multiple times for drink refills. There was only one server for the whole place. The food definitely made up for their slow service.
