Went to the food hall for another restaurant, but it was closed. Staff at Fonda Moderna waved us over and wow am I glad they did. Very friendly and helped us decide what to get. Tacos were amazing. First time I have ever had a lobster taco, fantastic. The Birria was also excellent. Great food and great service, will absolutely go there again.

This restaurant is set inside Mess Hall. A communal modern food court. The ribeye tacos were excellent but a little rich for my taste (ribeye is my fav cut of meat). I loved their taquitos and salad ? as well. Great options. We will def go

A very delicious (and fun) place to enjoy flavorful tacos of almost any kind. The menu has it all, it seems. There's a drink and appetizer happy hour, along with a tasting sampler. Can't wait to try more!

I had the chicken taco in a delicious marinade with cilantro. My daughter had a bean and rice burrito and it was very good. The chips were the best I've ever had. The young lady in the counter said they were freshly made.Kid-friendliness: The girl at front counter was very nice and friendly.

Consistency is something a lot of restaurants lack these days. This place never miss's a beat week in and week out. I've been coming here for year now every Saturday for lunch on my break and the foods outstanding every single time. If you like Mexican street tacos with a modern twist you gotta try this place out. Also the owners are the nicest people ever which is always a bonus

I sometimes work from my company's Tustin Legacy office, and Fonda Moderna is my favorite spot in the Mess Hall food court. The ingredients are high quality and fresh, and cooked to order (any restaurant with homemade tortillas is a winner for me!) Great steak and seafood varieties... my favorites are the lobster taco and the waygu steak taco. They're generous with fillings and the flavor is incredible. Two tacos is almost too much for me to finish (but I really wanted to so I did!) The service is friendly and also fast, even during the lunch rush. I'm looking forward to going through the whole menu here!

Fantastic tacos. And those nachos can feed a crew! Truly the best tacos around. The beef choices are the best, next pastor/carnitas. Thirdly the guisados. The seafood tacos seem to be my least favorite. We come here about once a week. It's that good!

Ordered the 5 taco sampler. Great tacos, although a bit on the small side. Large menu though and I did not explore much. Great concept in the “mess hall” approach. Other restaurants available along with a relaxed atmosphere with some game options.

We went to the Mess Hall for the first time today with 3 adults and 1 preteen who can be a finicky eater. We wanted everyone to be able to choose their own meal adventure. I opted to get the Fonda Moderna tacos guisados flight, mango orange agua fresca, and nachos to share. Fresh tortilla chips and a serve-yourself salsa bar were also included and enjoyed! (If a spot doesn't have bomb chips and salsa, is it even trying?)Everything was delicious but the friendly service, especially helping us find non-pork and vegetarian options for other members of our group, was really what made the experience sparkle. Between the four of us, we bought from five different Mess Hall vendors and Fonda Moderna was the best of the bunch!Dietary restrictions: Has vegan and vegetarian options

The good:There were lots of taco options and the tacos were fun, bite-size, street-style tacos with colorful garnishes and a nice crisp on the tortilla. I also had a cheesecake-like flan here that had a nice cherry on top. I tried 5 different taco options (the sampler for under $12) and liked the pickled red onion. The 5 tacos were: birria, stewed pork with beans, stewed chicken, stewed beef and stewed pork with pickled beets. I liked that they had a variety of meat options. I thought the prices were fair and the menu had other options like burritos and agua fresca. The bad:The flan tasted mostly of just condensed milk. The tacos were mostly all salty for my liking. One of the meats I had was a bit chewy. There was a tres leches dessert option that ran out when we tried to order it.The interesting:This place is located in a modern food hall so there is plenty of seating.

Visited the Mess Hall for the first time and this place definitely stood out with the number of people ordering from there. I highly recommend coming here during off-meal hours as I can imagine the lines being long with all the offices around and the typical lunch/dinner rush. As for the food, I ordered the Guisados Taco Sampler since I wanted to try EVERYTHING to see what I liked the best. Do note that the sampler has smaller tacos compared to the size of a regular taco order. They are pretty good about telling you this, but just in case. Nobody likes the feeling of getting less food. The tacos in the sampler special were all pretty tasty. Five tacos for $13 seems to be reasonable considering the high rent these businesses probably pay. I personally like all the flavors except for the Birria. Not sure if they just made it a little bit differently that day or if the recipe is different than what I'm used to. The Tinga De Pollo (chicken) was probably my favorite but I lowkey think it's the potatoes. I mean it's basically some carb on carb and the sauce is nice. Now the sauces! They have three different levels of heat for their salsas. The tacos do already come with sauce but if you are looking for some additional flavors do try them out. WARNING: the sauces are very spicy. I would like to think I can handle decent spice, these are just a tad bit more. The Jalapeño Salsa has a great flavor and I love the creamy consistency but is just too spicy for me. I ended up mostly using Mild Salsa. If you love spicy, perhaps go for the Diablo Salsa. Curious about how spicy that one is. The Mess Hall itself is really cool and free parking is nice. You can grab a drink from The Drink Bar and get food here. Good cocktails and tacos, I'll be back!
