This is a solid 4 star restaurant. Clay pot rice is freshly made to order, really tasty. The place can get busy and it may take a while to get a table during dinner time. Once you sit down, the service is reasonably quick and quite friendly. Excellent comfort food especially for cold winter days.

Pro:- Authentic flavor, it’s not too salty and you can adjust your saltiness by adding soysauce.- the chicken ginseng soup is good- grain goose claypot is decent- they use claypot and they actually cooked the price to perfection to get the crust on the bottom- service is good. They serve warm waterCons:- too much rice with little protein and pricy

Went during the Sunday lunch rush. The parking lot was super packed. Once parked went inside and placed my new down. Lots of locals eat here.Pro-tip: Get an appetizer while you wait for the clay pot rice to get more crispy.Got the pork ribs and Chinese sausage clay pot rice and deep fried pork ribs. The deep fried pork ribs are pretty cool while they preoccupy you from going to the clay pot. I would have ask for extra lemon as there was no other sauce for it.For the claypot rice, I originally thought they would provide a house soy sauce for the rice dish like I see how HK folks do it. But after looking at every table, there were no sauces provided. The pork ribs were pretty soft and light in flavor. It was more for texture. The Chinese sausage was good but it wasn't really memorable.Felt a little greasy after the meal, I wish I added a tea drink or something to cut it with. Or a vinegary vegetable dish. The service was good and they are attentive. I really like the music they played. Eating and Shazam-ing at the same time.

Our go to for clay pot in this area. We've pretty much tried all of the items but my favorite is the chicken, sausage and mushroom. The portion may be large and seem pricey but you can bring back leftovers. Popcorn chicken was fine but would pass on this. Service is fine, ambiance is pretty standard for a Chinese spot.

Fong Kee Claypot is located in the corner of the El Mercado Plaza Shopping Center. The parking is hit or miss because it gets pretty packed here with all the restaurants/shops in this plaza, especially on weekends and weeknights. Although, I had passed by/seen this spot quite a few times, this was my first time trying them out. Not much service and it was packed on a Thursday night with people still waiting outside to be seated, and it takes about 20ish minutes for the claypot.I came here specifically for their claypot with frog legs because I was craving it and looking for a spot that had it for the longest time. It was about $21 for a regular size, which was bit expensive - it comes with a lot of rice, as well as the yummy burnt/crispy rice with a somewhat decent amount of frog legs. The frog legs were just okay, they were on the fishier side and did not taste as fresh as it could, but when you mix it with the rice and sauce, you can barely taste the fishy aftertaste (be careful and get the meat off the brittle/small bones first). Overall, it was okay, if I come back, I would probably try either their beef rice casserole with egg claypot or their chicken with mushroom claypot because those looked pretty good.

The restaurant offers an alright amount of food for the price point. They offer some great traditional dishes, and unique rice dishes in their signature clay pots. I personally liked their signature goose grains dish the best. Contrary to the name, it's filled with cubed goose meat, not the grains used to feed them,

Another review to say this place is Asian parent approved!!I grew up eating clay pot rice and heard from friends this place was pretty solid. This was good especially since we can't make frog and eel at home ourselves. For the price it was a little higher than clay pot in Oakland Chinatown but the quality makes it worth it. For 3 people 2 pots was well enough. We had a bit of leftovers to take home too! Eel Clay Pot: The more flavorful one out of the two. Good amount of soy sauce seasoning that did not over power the super tender eel. Loved how there was a good amount of cilantro and green onion on top.Frog Clay Pot: Very smooth and perfectly cooked. Overcooked frog would have a very rubbery texture but I had none of that at all. The flavors were lighter than the eel but still a good pot. I would come here again!

We ordered the Chinese sausage, mushroom with chicken clay pot and Chinese sausage with pork spareribs clay pot. We liked the chicken clay pot more than the spareribs one, but both were delicious. The chicken in the clay pot was very tender and the mushroom added so much flavor. The rice was very fragrant and everything was great. The pea sprouts were cooked perfectly too and not too salty. Definitely interested in trying their other menu items too. The service was fast and friendly and the restaurant was bright and clean. We will definitely come back again and I recommend this place for anyone who wants to try authentic clay pot!

This is our Bay Area clay pot go-to. Flavors are good and the bottom crust is crisp to perfection! Good clean restaurant.

I've been craving for some clay pot rice dishes and saw that there was a restaurant that specializes it in Union City, so I decided to check this place out with my husband and friends. We ordered 4 items to share:-Soy marinated combo - I didn't eat this because I'm not a fan of this kind of food lol-Stir fried pea sprouts w/ garlic (5/5) - One of my favorite veggie dishes to order!-Clay pot rice w/ chinese sausage, mushrooms, and chicken (5/5) - Of the two clay pot rice dishes, I preferred this one the most.-Clay pot rice w/ chinese sausage & pork spare ribs (5/5) - This was really good. The food here was good, but definitely on the pricier side. I would recommend this place to anyone who's craving clay pot rice and can't easily make it themselves haha. The restaurant is located in a plaza with plenty of parking!

Don’t recommend the spareribs clay pot. The portion is relative small also the meat selection is relative low quality.

I love love love clay pot and I was excited to find out that Union City had an authentic clay pot restaurant. I came here on a Saturday afternoon and we were promptly seated. You can see DinDings next door crowded with a line outside but it was a good thing that I was craving clay pot today instead. My friend and I ordered fried chicken wings and a large Chinese Sausage, Mushroom, and chicken clay pot. I would personally recommend skipping the fried chicken and going straight for the clay pot. My friend and I took one bite of the fried chicken and couldn't finish it. It tasted like fried fish and we were having an incredibly hard time disassociating ourselves from the fishy taste to enjoy the fried chicken. However, the clay pot was A+. It came out super quick, and I loved every part of it. The sauce wasn't too overwhelming, it wasn't too oily, and the portions were huge. I think they mentioned the small for 1-2, and the large for 2+ people, there was definitely enough rice to feed 2-4 people. Overall, I would highly recommend for anyone craving clay pot~ !

Clay pot rice is the perfect comfort food! I can eat this again and again and again... I ordered the pork ribs and Chinese sausage clay pot. The rice on the bottom was crispy, crunchy and flavored perfectly. The pork ribs were chopped a bit too tiny... I feel like they should be bigger and/or more. The Chinese sausages brings back childhood memories of mom steaming several links in the rice cooker with the rice. Additionally, I ordered the beef brisket to-go... that was an unfortunate FAIL! The beef cubes were again, cut so small and because of that, it dried out. It was not soft and tender as I would expect it to be but more chewy and dried out. I will never order that again. Come for the clay pot rice (5 Stars), not the beef brisket (0 Star).
