I just missed closing time at Jimmies poke and wanted to give Tampopo sushi a try after seeing their yelp reviews. It's less than a mile from my house so it's super convenient. The sushi chef prepared my order quickly and I was out the door about 5 minutes after I placed my order. I ordered a Hawaiian roll and a spicy tuna roll and took my food home to eat. Mixed the wasabi with some soy sauce and dug in. The wasabi was real, not the paste that some sushi restaurants try to pass off, and a generous helping so kudos there. I tried the Hawaiian roll first with an extra dab of wasabi on top of the tuna strip. Unfortunately I was not very impressed. The tuna was slightly rubbery and had some light fishy odor. It didn't taste bad but the smell and texture were not great. I moved on to the spicy tuna roll and it was definitely better. I alternated between the two rolls and finished with the spicy tuna roll. It was the clear winner between the two. Still I wasn't very impressed with the spicy tuna either. Again, neither roll was bad, but they weren't good either. Mediocre is probably the appropriate term. I think that if the tuna had better texture and less odor I would have considered going back but at this point I have been there, eaten it, and will not return.

Delicious food, I especially liked the Sashimi. Mussels are also delicious. I also recommend trying the baked rolls. Very good service, friendly staff.

First time here. What pure joy, tidy pleasing decor, food was perfection. Sushi so tasty fresh and delicious, I'm more of just the sushi not into rolls, looks like they have quite a selection of creative rolls. Icy cold glass for the beer,perfect hot large mug for tea. All components of the Bento Box perfection. Even the salad so cold and fresh and dressing to die for. Tempura perfectly crispy! This is a real gem for the area. On par with the best places in J-town. I'll be back for sure ! Enjoy!

I have been coming here for years and I never get tired of it. It's fairly priced great quality sushi with excellent service. There's always a good amount of people in there but they always seem to have space for me! Love this place and I love all the servers. They are the sweetest.

This place was so yummy! We got the salmon roll, spicy tuna, and a ninja roll. All were amazing and a really good price for the amount and quality of the fish. We even given an appetizer on the house. Everyone there was very nice and welcoming. I definitely recommend everyone check this place out!

First time here and I was very satisfied! Compared to other sushi restaurants in the OC it's great! If you are in the area I highly recommend it.I met my friend here for lunch and she is a regular. The owners welcomed her with a free sushi taco sample bite, which was very tasty!We ordered the Rainbow Roll and a baked scallops roll. Both were very good but I will definitely be ordering the rainbow roll again. The baked scallops were not as baked as I've had at other sushi restaurants but they still tasted great.I would be happy to dine here again if I am ever in the area!

The food was amazing as was the service. My 9yo who has only ever had teriyaki chicken and rice tried a few pieces of their rolls and ended up eating the entire thing. He now asked to have his birthday dinner there. Definitely a must for us

I'm telling you I can't get enough of this place. I'm either eating in with other people or ordering take away. Even my daughter in law loves this place who is used to authentic Japanese food from Japan. The variety is very large and the food is so delicious. The California rolls are softer than other places. The soups are really authentic and bento boxes are very inclusive. These are so shareable. I enjoy the people who work here and the owner himself greets you every time. If your a new costumer they grace you with a taste of an appetizer on the house. (I miss that) But at the end of your meal you'll get a complimentary taste of watermelon or some other item in season.

I really enjoyed the gyoza as an appetizer along with the salmon teriyaki and sushi in my 3 item bento. My fiance had the Fire roll and said it was good but didn't care for the sauce and not felt there was not much fish was on top. I personally would come here again. Super friendly and quick service. The complimentary shumai and watermelon was a nice treat and delicious.
