My friend and I went on a Tuesday with reservations, which we didn't need. We both ordered sushi and after a 35-40 minute wait, and after everyone around us were served first, even tho they came in AFTER us, we were served small appetitizer size portions. In a word to sum up; disappointing. We won't be returning.

Their Bloody Mary ain't that good, no zesty flavor at all. But their foods are good as not as "Wow".Will not go again, too crowded. Wait more than 45 min to be seated.

Never disappoints. This is my second visit to R+D kitchen and It won't be my last. Arrived here at the 1230ish with no reservation and got seated with no wait! . The waitress was friendly and let us know what the daily specials were, it was a packed restaurant and she was still attentive the whole time. Let's start with the $15 corkage fee, can't complain at all most places are $25 and up. The salad appetizer was very good. I could eat 100 of those croutons lmao. I ordered dings crispy chicken sandwich with fries, the fries were perfect and crispy (usually I say well done) the chicken sandwich was just as good as the presentation. My wife got the Honor Burger it was so good she didn't even save me a bite . But she sure got a bite of my sandwich lol. Burger was perfectly cooked medium. We also ordered the carrot cake to go, OMG. best carrot cake I've ever had. I'd drive back just for a slice it was moist, lite, flavorful and fresh. Thank you R+D for the hospitality, great food and a memorable day date. We will be back again.

Food & drinks OK, nothing spectacular, given the high prices. $20+ sushi rolls, $8+ beer (then U find out it's a smaller pour than others). No parties of X5 or more outside at the high tops, no sushi outside. Lots of rules that I've never experienced at a restaurant - kindergarten is more liberated than this place! Very cold, corporate efficiency, move the table environment. Original plan was to try it out, have drinks & apps, and relax to start the evening. Then maybe dinner. Quickly punched out after drinks and some sushi, called Mustards Grill. They warmly accommodated us, spectacular food and wine list (as always!). Ventured to try something new - R+D. Not comfortable at all with recital of the ground rules when we first arrived and then the drinks and sushi experience. Couldn't get out of there fast enough and glad we did!

Beware of Towing and ParkingLeft car overnight, as had a few glasses of wine. They are unforgiving with parking and tow after 24 hrs. Not a very accommodating gesture to responsible guests.Signage for tow on the back lot, restaurant side, is posted just once and on the way into the entrance, which is very small and hard to read. The whole span of parking in that area has zero tow signs. The front lot, there is plenty of posted tow warnings, but not near the restaurant. If you are going to tow your guests so quickly, have the courtesy to have adequate signage to warn them. There is such lack of signage that when I returned to get my car, and not see it there, i thought I had parked on someone else’s lot. So I entered the restaurant to ask the manager clarification on their property line and get the tow company info, in fear I made a mistake. He smugly said, “everything is ours” and to “read the sign”.Although the food was decent and ambiance nice, I’ll never give them my business again. Zero appreciation and smug entitlement.

One of the most recommended places in Napa, its cuisine and service are spoken of as a benchmark of quality and satisfaction. The portions are large and the service is good.

I must begin this review by expressing my bewilderment at the perplexing dining experience my party and I recently encountered at R&D Restaurant. Little did we know, we were about to embark on an adventure filled with arbitrary rules and frustrating encounters.Upon arrival, our group of ten, all seasoned professionals from the hospitality industry, settled around the inviting fire pit. Eager to commence our evening, we ordered drinks and some appetizers, including nachos with guacamole and pimento dip. When it came my turn, I attempted to order sandwich (veggie sandwich...avocado, tomato, cheese) for the fire pit was met with a peculiar restriction – apparently, food for the fire pit must be ordered elsewhere at tables located about 10 feet from the fire pit.Undeterred, I decided to order the sandwiches to go, only to be confronted with further absurdities. As three of our party members went to order sandwiches without sides, we opted to join them at a nearby table. However, our seemingly harmless act of relocating chairs to accommodate our group was promptly halted by an employee citing strict regulations against moving furniture.Resigned to stand and eat, I was told I can not do that either because only 4 people are allowed at a table that could easily sit 8. I quickly devoured my sandwich under the vigilant gaze of the establishment's 'table police' so my wife could then come and eat her sandwich. The absurdity didn't end there – my attempt to engage in casual conversation with a passing part of our group heading to the restroom was promptly shut down, as apparently, chatting whilst standing was also forbidden. As the evening unfolded, more absurdities ensued. A member of our party was denied a drink from the bar, only to be redirected to the already overwhelmed server attending to the fire pit area. The culmination of these bewildering encounters prompted a visit from the manager, to whom I voiced my exasperation.Despite the commendable quality of the food, R&D Restaurant's inexplicable insistence on enforcing arbitrary rules overshadowed any positive experience. In an industry built upon the foundation of service, R&D's baffling approach left me questioning their priorities. While research and development may have its place, it certainly shouldn't come at the expense of basic hospitality. In conclusion, I can only hope that R&D Restaurant reevaluates its approach and prioritizes the essence of hospitality over unnecessary rigidity. Until then, I cannot in good conscience recommend this establishment solely based on its culinary offerings, no matter how tantalizing they may be.

I must say that I just had one of the most unusual dining experiences ever at this restaurant. Our party of 10 came after work (in the hospitality industry) sitting at their lovely fire pit . We ordered drinks and someone else ordered nachos guacamole and pimento dip. I ordered a veggie sandwich, avocado, cheese and tomato (essentially the same ingredients) & a chicken sandwich for my wife...but was told I could not order for the fire pit. I had to walk 10 feet away at one of the tables. I decided to order it to go....thinking this is silly. 3 of the people in our party went to one of the tables to order sandwiches (they do not come with a side) so my wife and I decided to join them at a large table with 4 chairs. I asked the lovely couple sitting next to us if I could borrow a chair of course they obliged. Then one of the employees came and told us we can not move the chairs. Okay, no problem, I'll stand and eat. No, that isn't allowed either he proclaimed. Okay, so my sandwich came out and I told me wife I will eat quickly and when her chicken sandwich comes out I will go back the fire pit and she could eat. A minute or so later one of the people in the party walked by on her way to the ladies room and stopped and chatted for a second and the person came back and told her she couldn't stand and chat. Okay, now I'm REALLY annoyed. I scoff down my sandwich so my wife can eat hers all under the watchful eye of the sandwich and table police. Then another person in our party that was sitting with us at the firepit attempted to order a drink from the bar on the way back from the restroom and was turned away because he needed to order from the server that was attending to the fire-pit area. Well, she was very busy and he had to wait quite a bit till she returned. The manager then came by because of all the ruckus and I told her that they probably needed to pass out a rule book before guests arrive so we don't get in trouble. Being in the service business myself, we try to do just that, GIVE SERVICE.....R&D is not about service, it's about...I really don't even know what they're about. It's a shame because the food is very good.
