*Take the 5 star reviews with a grain of salt. As part of their Social Sunday promotion, you can get a free drink for a positive Google review.TL;DR: you’ll have to really gamble on this place being a good time. Very rarely it still can be, but the frequency has dropped too much recently to the point that many regulars have stopped coming entirely, some even pushed away by either staff or management. It really has to do with who shows up that you know, who is working, and how loudly they decide to play their often unfitting selection of Pandora radio stations. Now it’s a test of stamina to see how long you can be uncomfortable for.Unfortunately, this place has gone from hands down my favorite spot to hang out, relax and socialize to a contentious, loud, obnoxious atmosphere. I have been a regular for over two years, and as someone who has seen all the staff changes, improvements, alterations, drops in quality and service, etc., it disappoints me greatly to see how far it has fallen. In the past few weeks alone, I’ve seen a kavatender let go for their rude demeanor towards many of the patrons, kavatenders harass a regular over “not buying a drink” when he did from a different worker an hour prior, three kavatenders group together to temporarily 86 a regular that was harassed by a group of people for sitting in one of their “taken” (but empty) seats then consequently talk about this friend poorly around other patrons, and the music blaring from head-level speakers pointed at you reach beyond 75 decibels for hours on end - past the level of safe listening volume. I’ve measured it nearly every time I’m there with a decibel meter, and left with eardrum pain and a headache if I didn’t wear noise canceling earbuds or earplugs. It is no longer a comfortable place to hang out. The drinks aren’t very strong. You’ll sooner develop a potent headache in there now before having the chance to relax and even comprehend what someone beside you is trying to say. You may even be treated poorly by the staff. Maybe it has to do with the fact that there is hardly a general manager around lately, and that they’ve had something like four different people in that role in the past six months. But they really do not tend to listen to reasonable suggestions or requests.

In the past i have left amazing reviews about this place, and specifically this location. My opinion, along with others, has changed drastically within the last year because this place *used to* be awesome. I have been going to kava since 2021. Staff were awesome and music was perfect. It was something i looked forward to every day, even after a 12 hour shift. Everything about this specific location made it worth going to just about every single day. Now, fast forward to 2024, the music is so loud and obnoxious that you cant even simply have a conversation without yelling, and you certainly can’t relax and have a good time when the music volume is bombarding your ears. Considering the age group of the majority of the customers at this location, i have no idea why the music choice is like something you’d hear at a night club and the blaring volume is comparable to a concert setting. Yet nobody comes here to listen to their music or dance or party, because it historically never used to be that kind of place (this makes more sense for the South College location, where young adults go and hang out, because they’re not old enough for the bars and clubs).

From the moment I stepped into Roots and Leaves at their 223 location, I knew I was in for a treat. The ambiance of the place, with its earthy tones and tranquil setting, immediately set the stage for what was to be a remarkable experience. The star of the show, however, was undoubtedly their Kava. As someone who appreciates the fine nuances of herbal beverages, I found the Kava here to be of exceptional quality. It was clear from the first sip that Roots and Leaves sources their Kava with a meticulous eye for purity and potency. The beverage had a rich, earthy flavor that was both grounding and invigorating, capturing the essence of Kava's traditional roots while presenting it in a way that felt fresh and modern. The staff at Roots and Leaves were knowledgeable and passionate, eager to share insights about the Kava's origins and benefits. Their expertise added depth to my experience, allowing me to appreciate the beverage not just for its taste but for its cultural and spiritual significance. Moreover, the attention to detail in the preparation of the Kava was impressive. The traditional methods employed in its preparation enhanced its effects, making for a deeply relaxing yet mentally clarifying experience. It was a perfect blend of the spiritual and the scientific, much like how I approach my own interests in life.In conclusion, my visit to Roots and Leaves, 223 location, was nothing short of five-star worthy. The quality of the Kava, coupled with the knowledgeable staff and serene environment, made for an enriching experience. It's a place I would highly recommend to anyone looking to explore the world of Kava in a setting that respects its rich heritage while embracing modern standards of excellence.

I came in and purchased a red tea.The glass was small and the prices went up. There are no outlets to charge your devices or do anything really. When I inquired about the outlets the dude was super aggressive and unnecessarily rude to me for some reason. Isaiah is not a friendly character. Do not recommend at all. Terrible. Also idk if my fellow kava kratom enthusiast know or not but there's a new rule that says you have to buy a drink every hour just to enjoy the atmosphere bogus since when? One more important detail, the kratom, the kava, and the teas are all watered down. It's nowhere near potent enough.

LOVE this kava bar! Great service, great drinks, knowledgeable staff and welcoming community! There's tons of games to play with friends or strangers you meet, especially in the back. They've started doing events too! Went to Halloween themed trivia last week and had a BLAST! Hope to see more of stuff like that because it's super fun. Couldn't recommend more!!!!

Embarking on a delightful exploration of beverages has been an absolute pleasure. From the moment I took my first sip, I was captivated by the diverse flavors, aromas, and textures that the world of beverages has to offer. Whether you're a connoisseur or simply seeking a refreshing experience, there's something for everyone.

Overall a fantastic place to hangout. Great staff very friendly and will happily explain what kava and kratom are to new customers. As far as food goes they only serve the foam ramen cups and some chips and candy but that's 10 outta 10 for me. Highly recommend and the vibe is more chill and relaxed then the kavarado on Stuart and College.
