If you get a waitress by the name of Jodi, she is the worse so ask for someone else. She is rude, has no customer service skills and clueless with what is on the menu when she finally decides to come over and take your order. My family and I would have enjoyed our meal more if we had a more pleasant and attentive waitress. We waited until we finally received our food (from another waitress)and asked for a manager when it was time to pay our bill. Jennifer was very nice, kept apologizing and handled everything right away.

The most tasty meal and excellent food pairing. Amazing wait staff ( we didn’t wait long for our food n drinks), clean dining room and spacious. Attentive waitress, great prices, variety of dishes and tasty vegetables. I love Miss Thelma’s restaurant and we plan to visit and make it our regular dining destination. I felt like we were family and treated so well and welcoming environment.

The food was okay, it wasn’t bad, it was okay.I thought I purchased 6 fried chicken wings, I received 6 wingettes! Seasoning wasn’t amazing, it was okay. Macaroni and cheese was dry, collard greens were too smoky. Cornbread seemed more like a cake taste.I waited very long, and I usually don’t mind a wait, as long as the wait is worthwhile.I hope you’ll take this review, and work on making some improvements, I like supporting local businesses.Next time, I’ll take a ride to New Haven when I’m in the mood for soul food.

Visited on 9.6.2022. They were packed and we were offered 2 seats at the bar. Bartender Jennifer anticipated what we wanted before e asked for it. She handled the influx of people very well. She notified us of the wait and checked in often. She was personable and attentive, easily adding to our experience. We both ordered a mimosa and chicken and French toast. The chicken was crispy. Caramel toast was phenomenal.4 stars because they didn’t have yams and I wanted the full lunch experience. Will definitely be back for round 2.

My second time dining in here, food is very good. Both times were for a birthday brunch. Servers as well were well-mannered and knew how to have a good time despite us dancing in their ways. The entire restaurant is always lively and fun. I have nothing bad to say about this establishment, (except for the poor bathroom lighting?rip I looked so good last time). Regardless, definitely would recommend if you’re looking for an energetic evening with friends, or a nice calm brunch. The setting is very versatile.

The menu sounded good, the food took forever. You could tell that the baked Mac was reheated in the microwave, lacked flavor and was still cold. Presentation was great but not what I was expecting. My chicken wings were very delicious tho still crispy even with sauce. Was out of potato salad and that's something I was looking forward to.

On Aug 27th, 2022 at 6pm, I hosted my Mother, Miss Ophal Lee Sutton's 75th BornDay Celebration Dinner at Miss Thelma's Soul Food Restaurant ! I was Overjoyed and Amazed at the high level of professional, courteous, caring, and loving service! My Mom, myself and family were treated like royalty! I would like to thank the Restaurant Manager Jen for her attentiveness and actions to insure everything when smoothly, and had her staff well prepared to handle the varying needs of my party of 30 plus guests. Thank you to the wonderful wait staff whom quickly fulfilled any request, all with a great smile and care! I also have to send the deepest gratitude to Owner Eric Bryson whom I 1st reached out to due to a recommendation and sharing of contact from my high school friend Tony “Doc” Hardy. Thanks Doc ! I actually got to meet Eric in person, while visiting the location to prep for decorations and seating arrangements, he took time from a maintenance project he was working on to answer all of my questions, plus reassure me that he and his staff would do everything to make my Mom's Bday memorable and special. Thanks again to Eric and Reservations staff member Zjhona for their invaluable assistance in the planning stages by catering to the special gluten free dietary needs of one of my guests as well as providing excellent options to satisfy a larger group with a variety family style menu, which shows a proactive approach of care and concern for their client's budgetary needs. Thank you, Eric, for allowing me to hire my own DJ and friend of over 20 years for the duration of our dinner. Thanks to the house DJ who graciously kept the music going until my DJ setup and seamlessly resumed when our dinner concluded. Shout Out and Blessing to you, my Brother ! Shout Out to Byron aka DJ Dinero – For providing a perfect blend of music from my Mom’s preferred eras! The dinner was fantastic ! Restaurant Manager Jen and the wait staff were all hands on and wonderful to me, my Mom, and our guests ! Every request and courtesy was fulfilled ! The Food was exceptional and more than enough for my guests with plenty for everyone to take home. Thank you, Jen and staff, for the spectacular sparkler candles presentation of the cake with a Staff led BDay song ! I recommend Thelma’s Soul Food Restaurant to anyone who desires excellent Southern and Caribbean Soul Food to stop in for lunch/dinner or to needs to host a BornDay, Anniversary. Graduation or any type of celebration. Or for one of the many themed food, drinks and music promotions during the weekweekendevenings! Again, I highly recommend taking a ride down to Miss Thelma’s Soul Food Restaurant at 140 Fairfield Ave, Bridgeport. CT! You will not be disappointed but rather amazed with the service, attention to details and delectable menu choices ! Peace, Love, God Bless Eric, Zhjona , Jen, the entire Miss Thelma’s Soul Food Restaurant’s Staff and my Brothers, Tony ‘Doc” Hardy and Byron aka DJ Dinero! Sincerely, Tony A. Sutton ! ✌️?????

I love to support black businesses but, I will NEVER eat Thelma's again. I wanted the chopped bbq lunch special. They didn't have chopped bbq or any type of flavored rice only white. I ended up ordering 5 wings and French fry special. 1st of all they're not wings they are wings split in half which were over cooked like they were fried over from the day before. Really dry with crunchy skin, I tasted no seasoning at all. My fries were over cooked. My husband ordered bbq chicken, Mac and cheese with rice and black eyed peas. The small portion of chicken was rubbery with too much bbq sauce. Mac and cheese was really good. Don't bother reaching anyone by phone. It will ring forever or have a busy signal. Thelma's have potential but they don't try hard enough.

Where do I begin… After hearing so much about this establishment I was so excited to finally give it a try this past Sunday… Upon our entrance, instead of a welcoming greeting, the couple of waitress that were there literally rolled their eyes and walked away. Talk about uncomfortable… Never again…. Their hospitality sucks! I’m good… I’ll take my hard earned money elsewhere. Bitter/miserable women will destroy what was once a good establishment…

I use to love ordering food from here but my experience last night made me highly disappointed in this restaurant. The macaroni and cheese use to be my favorite side dish to order, however when I opened my meal I saw multiple strands of hair. I couldn’t believe what I saw & the fact it looks like it was intentional. So moving forward I have lost all interest in ordering food from this restaurant again which is very unfortunate because my family & I was loyal customers. I marked the spot of hair that caught my attention, couldn’t bother looking through the whole thing to see if there is more. I was very upset & disappointed SMH!!

Took my daughter here for lunch since she needs to visit 5 new places over spring break for her project. After reading mixed reviews I was skeptical about coming here. I must say that those who received poor service I feel bad for because the service was great. Maybe it was because we were also the only people there. As for the food, my daughter ordered the downtown fish and chips with a side of white rice and corn nibbles. I ordered the wings with collard greens and mac and cheese. Plus we got empanadas (chicken and spinach and cheese). My daughter said everything was delicious. The rice was a little salty but still good. She absolutely loved the spinach and cheese empanada. My food was good. Wings were nice and crispy and the honey on the side was great. The Mac and cheese was not even warm, but it was good. I personally would have liked a little more cheese, but that's just because I believe everything could have a little more cheese. The collard greens were tasty, but felt like it was missing something. Just can't figure out the something is.Overall wonderful experience. The empanadas were a little costly at $8 each so I probably will not order that again. Bathroom was clean as well as the establishment. Over all a 4 just because the sides were not priced in the menu so it wasn't until the bill came that I found out how much they were. ($26 was just for a bowl of white rice, corn and 2 empanadas. Not worth it in my book).I will probably be back in the near future.

The food tastes better than it looks! Rich, yet balanced flavor profile, not excessively buttered or oily.If you're a fan of soul food, you have got to check out Miss Thelma's. They've survived in Bridgeport for decades, and it's no surprise why.
