Maybe because it was the end of the night? It does seem like a nice place to hang out outside for drinks though, or to listen to music.

Scotch plains is a great place to hang out and grab some American style food. Downstairs is a more sit down space for dinner/lunch. Upstairs is a fun bar with tables and high tops. Occasionally you can catch a live band. Games are always on the TVs. We went and caught an amazing live band and stayed well after dinner to have drinks! Get the potato chips to start, the dipping sauce is great. I had the burrata BLT, with balsamic and was not disappointed. Chicken Cesar salad was great with a giant crouton. Fun spot!

My family and I have been here more times than we can count. 99% of the time, everything has been amazing. The staff there are always wonderful, and the food is always fresh and yummy. The building is beautiful. It's a perfect place for families, friends, parties(they have a party room there you can book), and it's also a great place to go to have a drink on the weekend, or play some pool in the other room. One very small complaint I have is the smell is very strong in there sometimes. I believe they clean with Fabuloso, which is extremely strong and tends to make me nauseous. I do wish they would change what they clean with so that we cannot smell that while we are eating. The air freshener in the bathroom is also very strong at times which makes someone like myself who is sensitive to smells, have a difficult time. Like I said, it is a very small complaint compared to everything, but I do wish they would change that. I would also love if they cooked their potatoes longer. They come out almost raw, so I usually substitute with rice(another small suggestion). I'm so glad this restaurant is here and hope that they don't go anywhere for a very long time. Definitely try their chicken Caesar salad, (blackened or regular) or the chicken sandwich. Also, their spinach artichoke dip and their SPT nachos for appetizers are incredible! Also, they have an amazing rewards program!

Food was cold. Service was not good. Went out with a party of 7 and all of our meals came out except one guests. All of us were done eating by the time her meal came out. Asked for multiple drinks and waitress forgot about them.

Between 2:00-3:00 p.m. if you want to beat the crowd.You will be able to make special requests and they will go out of their way to accommodate you and your guests. The menu online is exactly what you will receive when you arrive. So, it's easy to plan you meals ahead of your visit.The food menu, beverage menu and dessert menu has something for everyone. This Tavern is built to accommodate many different types of affairs. We celebrated our 48th wedding anniversary here. I also reccomend the Braised Short Rib with Mashed Potatoes and Grilled Asparagus. All seasoned well and cooked to perfection.The Pumpkin Cheesecake was to die for. Great parking and a very clean establishment. From the moment we arrived, host and staff were very kind, friendly and welcoming. The abeyance and architectural design of the restaurant was outstanding. The service was impeccable and the team serving us was very attentive and professional. The food was very good, seasoned to perfection and served hot with great presentation. The menu from drinks, beers, wines and soft drinks was extensive. Even the food and dessert menu had something for everyone's taste bud's. We felt the price was very fair. There was plenty of free parking however, we do recommend making reservations. On line was so easy. Here my family and I celebrated my wife and I 48 wedding anniversary ? We highly recommend this establishment. Very clean restrooms and is also, handicap accessible.
