Eggrolls and fried rice were very generic. I've had better Chinese from the frozen section at the grocery

2 Stars because a restaurant is mainly graded on its food. First time I got there. The restaurant looked clean, and was greeted promptly. That was exceptional. The issue is the food, the rice taste was good, however the boneless spare ribs were aweful. I have a very keen taste. I can tell when food is reheated. The rice was fresh, but the boneless was not. It seemed they had yesterdays ribs reheated and then a sauce poured over them. The sauce hides the reheated taste a little but I could still taste it. If you’ve ever cooked pork shoulder in an oven and then reheated the meat in a microwave or a skillet the next day you can taste the difference. The fats in the meat breakdown and it does not taste as good as fresh pork. This made me spit the food out and unfortunately I did not finish it. That combined with the fact that there is a higher price in comparison with first garden Chinese which is down the street in front of shell gas station next to the Mexican restaurant, which their food gives more portion, better tasting food, and I’ve never once have tasted food less than fresh. All for about a dollar less.I can’t see why I’ll visit this place again. Hopefully their food improves from here to a year.

Decided to give this place a second try, not very good when first opened. Big Mistake... egg rolls ok, wontons in wonton soup inedible, hard & thick dough, not cooked & couldn't tell what it was filled with. Soup itself tasteless, bright yellow flavored water. Steak on a stick not steak, but some Knarly meat, unknown. Shrimp with garlic sauce ok, broccoli mushy & clearly overcooked, sauce tasteless.

Sorry folks, save your money!I've been going to First Garden in Guilford for over 30 years! Something there is different, new faces and the food quality has dropped. So I noticed New Star when they first opened and decided that I would like give them a try. Tonight was the night and it was a huge mistake.Large Hot Sour soup, fried dumplings, shrimp egg foo young and chicken with mixed vegetables. $47.00! If it was half that it would still have been a waste of money.Although the order did resemble some form of food, what was lacking was flavor. Everything (and I mean everything) was the most bland and flavorless Chinese food I've ever eaten. No way on earth I would ever go back. They don't even deserve the one star I gave them.

While on the road I tried New Star in Guilford. This restaurant only offers takeout. The cooking area is very close to the ordering counter, so it was interesting to watch the chef cook while waiting for my order. They are very friendly, fast and efficient. For me the food was just OK. We ordered beef and broccoli and mixed vegetables. The mixed vegetables were delicious, with so much broccoli that I did not finish all of it. The beef and broccoli was OK, but with less beef than I am used to in this dish. It was also somehow different than how the meat in this dish is typically prepared at my local Chinese. Different mouth feel) and the broccoli was more cooked than I prefer. Taste was good and as expected. Everyone's tastes are of course different, so my comments might be a very different assessment from someone else.I suspect that New Star uses MSG, which can cause stomach distress in certain people. The reason I mention this is we frequently patronize a local restaurant that does not use MSG and my girlfriend never had an upset stomach, but had one after eating the food from New Star. Would I get a meal from New Star again? Probably, but not until I try the other Asian restaurant in town, to see if I experienced similar issues. I had no stomach upset after eating the same meal. In my estimation New Star offers good food, but not exceptional food. Portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable. They are located in a strip mall and there is plenty of parking.

I ordered to go today for a party of eight at my house. We started with boneless spear ribs, then General Tso 's Chicken, Chicken with Broccoli, Moo Goo Gai Pan, Chicken with Cashews and Chicken with mixed vegetables. They gave me free Spring Rolls. I ordered ahead for a 6:15 pickup. They could not of been more accommodating. I ate some of the Moo Goo Pan, never had it before but really enjoyed it. My go to was the Chicken with Vegetables; that was very good. All the vegetables for both of my dishes were fresh and not over cooked. Plenty of cashews in the Chicken with Cashews ( check my photo) Everyone enjoyed the other meals and agreed with me on the quality and taste of the food.

Nice surprise, did not like it a few years back because of too much oil, salt, and very heavy brown sauce. We decided to give it a chance today, and the food was really good! THE PLACE WAS CLEAN! We ordered vegetable soup which was delicious, clean, and low in salt with lots of veggies inside. Chicken and broccoli were also very good, the rice was well cooked, not sticky, the broccoli was well steamed and true green fresh looking, low brown sauce we asked for was not too salty or heavy. We will try them again for sure! Our only complaint/concern is that the chicken did not look like a real cut of the meat but chopped and formed rubbery meat.

The food was very hot. Tasted very good. The best egg roll I've ever had.

I ordered 2 meals online: Chicken chow mein and sweet & sour chicken. After picking up and driving home, I discovered they did not put the sweet & sour sauce in the bag. When I returned, I asked if I could have some extra sweet $ sour sauce and the reply was "No, it costs more money". After driving back home, I had more disappointment: The chicken was HEAVILY breaded with very little meat and the sweet & sour sauce was very thin with not much flavor. I'll no be back. I'd rather drive the extra miles and pick up from First Garden - always had great service and good meals!
