Zepppole time! Some years I miss finding this treat but this year was super successful. We sat at the coffee bar and devoured one each with a cup of Cappuccino. Our coffee was made right in front of us as we waited for the zeppole to be filled with whipped ricotta. What a delicious was to enjoy a sunny day in Hartford in a true Italian setting. The Easter breads looked amazing.

Modern is one of the best places in Connecticut. My partner has a tradition of having zeppoles on Saint Joseph's Day! The best place to get them? At Modern, duh! We got 2 chocolate and 2 vanillas. Both flavors are delicious, but I prefer the chocolate more. They do NOT skimp on the filling. It was a bit busy, but the service was super quick, and the line went by fast! Highly recommend to everyone!

I have always loved Modern Pastry since I was a kid and my grandfather used to bring us peach and strawberry filled cakes. They recently made the cake for our wedding and it was beautiful and delicious. Lisa and Carla were a pleasure to work with. At short notice they provided tasting samples with an assortment of cakes, frostings and fillings to sample and make our final decision. The result was beautiful with many compliments from our guests.
I'm old and this bakery brought me back to the days when businesses cared about their customers, using the best ingredients prepared the right way not cutting corners. Go Here while you can, these places, the best of Americana, won't last forever.....

Modern Pastry was one of our wedding venue’s (Aria) preferred vendors and was included with our wedding package. We chose Modern Pastry because of all the good reviews. When we did our cake tasting, I thought their cakes were so good – they were moist and soft. We liked that we could alternate the flavors across the different tiers. Carla was very easy to work with via email as questions arose and we designed our wedding cake. We went with the white cake, but alternated the filling flavor on our 3 tiers between the Oreo Mousse and the lemon mousse with strawberry mousse. We also went with the white buttercream frosting. So many of our guests were raving about our cake. It is so good – I’m already itching to eat the top layer of our cake for our first anniversary!

I ordered a small cookie platter for the holidays and wish I ordered a larger one!! They were absolutely delicious and SO fresh! I placed my order less than a week before Christmas and the young girl who helped me place the order [over the phone] was very nice.
We purchased a10" round carrot cake with walnuts but no raisins for a surprise birthday party. It had cream cheese frosting inside as filling and outside covering it. Absolutely delicious even two days later when we ate the refrigerated leftovers. One partygoer asked me for the name of the bakery and others complimented us on our choice. The bakery staff was easy to deal with and the cake was reasonably priced. Will use them again.

Was looking for a bakery to make my boyfriend’s birthday cake saw them on Instagram and they were able to meet all my needs from time to price to flavor. The cake was delicious served about 7. Will definitely be going back for future cakes !
Our wedding venue, The Lake House, included a cake from Modern Pastry Shop with our package. Modern Pastry was wonderful to work with during our planning process. Carla was very easy to communicate with and she made sure that every last detail was handled from setting up a tasting to the flavor and design of our cake, and drop off at our venue. Not to mention, the cake was absolutely delicious- white cake with Oreo mousse filling, and buttercream frosting, 10/10 recommend! We look forward to ordering our exact cake on every anniversary for years to come. Thanks, Modern Pastry!

Our vendor for our wedding uses Modern Pastry for their wedding cakes. the tasting was so easy and great. we went with chocolate cake chocolate mousse. Our cake was phenomenal!! not only was it gorgeous and EXACTLY as we wanted..it was so delicious. the process was super easy and painless which is what every bride needs...everyone was extremely friendly. thank you so much!!!! highly recommended!!!

I called from Florida to order something for my Mom's 95th birthday. Lisa was amazing with helping me with my order! She was able to have the order hand delivered, so not only was I able to order an assortment of cookies, but also what turned out to be a gorgeous cake filled with peaches and strawberries and whipped cream frosting and pastry too ( Sfogliatelle, my Mom's favorite). The woman who delivered the order called me when she arrived, on time, at the facility where my Mom lives, and was able to get someone to help her deliver it to my Mom's apartment. My Mom was surprised and thrilled. The customer service at Modern Pastry Shop far exceeded our expectations! My husband and I will be making a trip to CT soon for our 50th wedding anniversary and our wedding cake came from Modern Pastry shop back then in 1973. We will definitely be stopping there again and ordering a cake for us!! Our sincere thanks to Lisa and the staff at Modern Pastry Shop.Lynne Vitale
