Delicious food and quick service. I especially loved the broccoli and tofu dish with garlic sauce. 100% recommended.

Homemade food made to order. Fresh dumplings! This is a business that takes a lot of care with preparation and is worth seeking out when you're looking for quality ingredients and preparation.

Best Chinese takeout in the region. Hands down. I do not say this lightly, but it was worth the drive. We wanted sit-down Chinese, but we had heard such good things about this place that we made an exception. Everything was fantastic!!

I started frequenting this place in 2000 when I was an undergrad down the street. 23 years later, it is still my favorite Chineese food in the state. Chicken is always all white meat and always great. Just wish they opened earlier in the day.

Food was was very bland. Got the general tso meal, barely had any sauce. Egg rolls are good. Chicken fingers are eh. Wouldn’t go

Imagine waiting until 430 to get your food and the food isn’t what you wanted. We orderedShrimp and broccoliChicken and broccoliWe specifically asked about brown sauce versus white sauce. The man at the counter stated that they use brown sauce. We wait just under 10 minutes to get our food. The restaurant appeared to be clean, but you are not allowed to eat here. There was not anyone else waiting for food when we arrived.Got home, opened the bag! It’s literally chicken and broccoli NO sauce!I’m not gonna say it was dry, but it was more dry than moist! The sauce woulda help.We called the restaurant and the person who answered the phone said they don’t really use a lot of sauce. There’s a difference between a lot of sauce and none, there was no sauce, except what it may have been cooked in.The man also said, next time tell him we want sauce. I order this every time i order Chinese, and I never had this not come with sauce. And i personally think if you ask about sauce, them not putting any in the dish should have been mentioned!

Food and service is always incredible. Owner is hardworking and unwilling to cut any corners. Have been coming to this restaurant for nearly 2 decades and can’t stop praising the quality of everything on the menu. Family and friends from out of state always want food from House of Chao.

Hot, fresh food! Veggies were fresh and cooked perfectly. General Tso chicken had a ton of flavor, I just prefer smaller chunks of chicken. But they used a high quality cut of chicken. Shrimp Lomein was amazing!! Great price!

Not your average Chinese takeout. Food is dry and expensive. Menu is limited. Dishes are not as expected. Atmosphere is as antique and dry as the food is. Do not recommend.

House of Chao, a quaint spot located in the heart of New Haven. It was not the typical greasy, oily Chinese food us Americans have come used to, but instead was a refreshing change to the Americanized cuisine. The fried rice was not too flavorful, although I did not feel guilty eating it as it was still yummy. The eggrolls were top notch, with a perfectly crispy shell followed by a savory concoction of vegetables and pork. The pork lo mein was colorful and vibrant with its many additives of vegetables and spices. I engorged in a sweet and sour chicken which consisted of beautifully crispy and tender nuggets coated in a house made sauce. My girlfriend enjoyed the chicken and mixed vegetables that provided a light, yet delicious sauce. Overall House of Chao has a charmful meal that feels like it was cooked right in the kitchen of your house. The food was most certainly made with love.
