I discovered this place because I was new to the area looking for somewhere to order Japanese food from. I found two places, but went with Yamasaki Teriyaki because they were much less expensive - not to mention the catchy name! I ended up ordering the tempura shrimp bento with an eel & avocado roll. The taste, quality, and the portion sizes greatly exceeded my expectations. Since then, I've been ordering from here regularly and recommending them to all my friends.

Great food, great owner, not expensive, and all that. One thing, if you don't open until 10 pm, don't make that your official hours! Say I wish to get your food at 9:30 ish, which is way before the 10pm closing time you publish, and I walk into the store, only to be told that you're closed. What? How am I supposed to know when you actually close? This happened more than once, and it is frustrating. Now, I promise to come back and leave a 5-star review as you deserve if either you just say you close at 9:30 or even 9, OR, you actually open until 10 or 11 as you claim to. I really hate doing this to a store with great food and great price.

The food is pretty bland... tastes like they genuinely only season their food with teriyaki sauce, maybe some salt if you're lucky. Equivalent to something made in a college dorm with minimal ingredients. Portions are huge though, and the sushi is better than the meals.

Counter Service only. Mostly Does Takeout/DeliveryJust because they hire Asian staff right off the boat, doesn't mean they know how to cook Japanese. The teriyaki sauce was too sweet, too thickened with cornstarch, the various meats overcooked, tough and dried out.Shrimp Tempura should be in the lightest, flaky, thin crust possible: theirs came entombed in a thick batter and thus the shrimp was both rubbery and soggy. The California Roll: flavorless and the wasabi a strange neon green. But the fried wings were perfect: large, juicy, tasty and crisp.Good Only for Cheap Calories

Decently sized portions for the price, the rice and vegetables on the side are usually good

The bento boxes, miso soup, and Dragon Rolls are very good. The only reason why I can't give this place 5 stars is because this isn't authentic Japanese. The people in the back making the food aren't Japanese and I can tell because I can hear them speaking and I know Japanese well enough to be able to tell it apart from the other Asian languages. Also their clerk is an Indian lady. Takumi in Branford is hands down more authentic as everyone there is actually Japanese.

You really get more bang for your buck by eating here! Also seems popular for takeout orders, but I like ordering in person at the counter.-Teriyaki Beef over rice with vegetables: 5/5Getting a solid amount of both protein and fiber! I love their teriyaki sauce and how tender the beef is. -Teriyaki Salmon over rice with vegetables: 4.5/5I feel like I'm more used to seeing salmon that isn't as pale, but it tasted good nonetheless! I think eating beef is more fun for me though. There are some high seats and booths inside for you to eat at if you wish. There is a table on the side where you get your own napkins and disposable utensils.

The beef was good but i did not like the fried rice and lettuce bed. Some of the rice were clumped up together and they just added in a basic peas, carrots, corn frozen veggies mix in the fried rice which is quite traumatizing if u ask me.Wished they put grilled onions instead of lettuce
