This place has the best house salad hands down!It's a beautiful restaurant for a date night. I also had the love boat and plum wine. The love boat was so plentiful that I couldn't finish it all and had to bring some home. I have been here already a couple times and will be coming back!

Sushi California is probably the best sushi restaurant in town. Every time I have come home to CT to visit my family in recent years (as I have now lived out of town), the food and the service have both been excellent. The selection they have on their menu is also outstanding, offering plenty of options to keep you interested without being overwhelming. It can be easy to miss this place as it's located in the Stop & Shop strip on Fenn Road rather than being in its own building, but don't sleep on this sushi paradise.

Sushi California in Newington is a traditional looking Japanese restaurant on Fenn Rd that has both a sushi bar & alcohol bar with about a dozen & a half tables. A welcoming interior layout featuring bamboo pillars in the architecture and Japanese paraphernalia decorating the walls. I enjoyed some of the dry sake, a rose garden speciality roll & the rainbow roll. All delicious and the wasabi had a nice spice to it but nothing too overpowering. Checked in before arriving and was gifted a 10% off coupon .... that I totally forgot to use haha

3.5 stars. Decent sushi, no complaints. Salmon avocado maki was solid, lacking a bit of flavor. Spicy tuna maki was kind of weird with the extra apocy mayo on top, but overall tasted good. My fiancé got the the Yaki udin with beef, which he said tasted good but the beef was dry, probably overcooked. We also got pork gyoza as an appetizer which were delicious, though I wish they came with a slightly more interesting sauce than just soy.

As a long time California resident, I was curious to try this place out. Definitely had California prices. Great presentation and flavor on the sushi, but the chicken katsu fell short, the batter wasn't flavored very well. Also ordered a sashimi spread, but forgot to grab a picture, quality fish was used and was served in an ice bowl.

Recently, we got takeout from Sushi California. My primary order was the pork katsu, which is thin breaded pork cut into smaller strips and served with rice and a sweet sauce. It was well executed and I enjoyed it. I also tried a piece of my wife's Jumbo Veggie roll and the Specialty Roll shown in my picture. I never caught the name since she ordered. The rolls didn't really connect for either of us. The rice texture seemed softer than ideal. The flavors were fine, but not among my recent area favorites. 3.5 Stars

This place was amazing! The waiter was also very attentive and helped us right away. We ordered the Boston roll which was so good and the garlic Mayo on top was so tasty, we ordered a special roll with shrimp tempura and crab ( forgot the name) and it was so good perfectly crunchy and spicy as well. The sweet potatoe also was a good one. They had a variety of food options and rolls. We cannot wait to come back sometime! We were left satisfied

I've come here twice so far and each time the service and sushi has been impeccable! The wait staff here is so friendly and accommodating! Sushi comes out quick and is so delicious and fresh. My favorite is the dancing girl roll (perfect for those that like a little bit of spice) and the spicy girl roll. They do not have a cocktail menu but they do have wine and a few beers. The restaurant itself is very nice and there are a few booths for more privacy and plenty of tables throughout. Will definitely be back!
10/10 my favorite sushi in CT !! Their rolls even the basic rolls are delicious. Their love boat for two is a great deal. Sushi is fresh and their lunch specials are so worth it!

Tried Sushi California for the first time. It was a crowd pleaser for sure. Food was great. Not pictured: steamed pork dumplings and fried ice cream. Over all, great experience. Definitely check it out if you love sushi!
