Another multifaceted rural attraction, Bishop’s Orchards is at two locations, in Northford and Guilford, and features pick-your-own fruit, a creamery, a winery and a farm market. From early summer to late-fall you can pick strawberries, blueberries, peaches, raspberries, pears, apples and pumpkins. There’s a helpful calendar on the farm’s website to let you know what will be ready and where.Bishop’s Orchards’ winery was set up in 2005, growing Chardonnay, Vidal Blanc, Pinot, Gris, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, for wines from dry to sweet, together with fruit wines and hard ciders.Drop by on weekends for tours and tastings. Finally, that capacious farm market is food paradise, overflowing with fresh produce, artisanal cheese, organic treats, home-baked goodies and delicious “grab N go” meals”.

What a beautiful place. The owners are so so nice. I can’t even image when the trees are in full bloom and ready to pick. I will be there to take photos of this wonderland for adults and kids.

I got a box of food that accidentally opened up in the very dirty shopping cart. I asked the check out clerk if I could get another one and she told another check out clerk to replace it for me. She left with the food and came came back very quickly. She appeared to be talking about me to the other check out clerk. I do not trust this product. It appears she never got a new food item but gave me back the same food item that opened up in that dirty shopping cart they had for customers to use. It appears the food item had never been exchanged. It appears deception occurred but only the people in question know for certain. Will never go back here.

This was such a fun day. My family decided to give us the "fall experience" of Connecticut and take us apple picking. There were so many varieties and lots and lots of apples to choose from. There were tractor rides to get you to the other end of the orchard. There were no pears available which was a bummer but otherwise any apple you could imagine. They also sell kettle corn, apple cider and apple cider donuts when to check out. The staff are all ready to answer questions and help any way they can. It costs 1.99 a pound and considering some of the fancy apple varieties, you can't beat that price even at the grocery store. I wish we were local so we could make Bishops a part of our family fall tradition and I cannot wait to bake a pie.

Very sad experience we had today as a family. After spending an hour or so picking apples together as a 3-generation family, we decided to taste one of the apples that we planned on using for our pies. To our surprise, they were extremely tart and not ripe enough to bake with. Rather than leaving them in the middle of the orchard to go to waste and create litter as many people had done before, we walked them to the register, along with the other $80 worth of apples and pears we were purchasing. After explaining what happened to the young girls at check out, a man named John-Paul C. aggressively interjected himself into the conversation and demanded that we paid for these apples. He went as far as to explain that if we didn't pay for them, his manager would call the police and we would be marched in handcuffs with a police escort to the ATM. My aunt stated that the customers were always right and he chose to mock her and condescendingly repeat himself "YUP, you're right. Okay you're right." We were embarrassed in front of everyone, so we obviously turned around. My grandfather, being a gentlemen, decided that he would pay for the apples. When this bully John Paul did not see my aunt holding the apples upon her return into the line, he proceeded to follow her throughout the line and actually interrogate her in front of the crowds of people. Mortified, she explained that he was paying for them- and he left her alone. After publicly scrutinizing us, we called to speak with the manager. She assured us that she would take care of this, and went as far as to take down my name and number. No call. Nothing. Really upset, and truly embarrassed with how things were handled. We gave Bishops a chance to rectify themselves and unfortunately they did not rise. Sadly the last time we will partake in our family tradition at Bishops Orchard. Lyman's here we come!

My Mom and I went today to go to the wine tasting room - SO FUN!! All their wines are fruit based, not grape based. All you can do is wine tastings, there is no place to sit, you just stand at the counter and do a wine tasting, you pay $9.00 per person and sample 6 wines. The counter is conveniently located at the back of the store, so after trying six wines you have to walk through the bakery, the cheese & cracker shoppe, and past the potato chips - my mother and I spent a lot of money to say the least! I'm just glad that it's so far from our house, otherwise I'd be there a lot more. This was my first time and I'll definitely be going back!!

Very disappointed! Unless you want to pick your own apples there is no option to get apples! And farm market-no!
