As much as I appreciate the very relaxed vibe here, if "Ale House" is in the name, you might want to up your Ale game. Smithwicks is the premium tap? Guinness cans in the fridge? I get it but I was one of three people there at 7:00 on a Thursday night. Keep it real Stratford Ale House!

Usually I love this place and have been many times. However, last night I went with my bf and upon walking in, the bartender, a middle aged man with dark hair, yelled for him to pull his pants up. I get that they must deal with a lot of different folks there and want to uphold standards, but upon trying to explain that my bf has medical issues that have caused him to lose a lot of weight in a short time we were further harassed and told to leave. He had no problem adjusting his belt if the opportunity would have been given, but there was a big problem with the tone of voice and the attitude presented by this employee. As a person who works in the hospitality industry I was actually appalled. I have seen it all, heard it all and dealth with it all....until this. It was 100 percent unacceptable behavior on behalf of this establishment that I have always known to care about the community.

I love the Ale House because I am laid back and that is where I like to relax. Bartenders are cool, drinks are very reasonable and it is easy to make a friend there. If you are a down to earth person, you will love it.

Don't overlook this place. It's a great neighborhood bar with fantastic and fast food, a tremendous selection of beer and some of the funniest and friendliest bartenders you'll ever see. This is an old school place. They aren't going to adjust to you and your 'tude so leave that at home. Drop down to a normal level and drop in for a relaxing afternoon or evening watching sports on the TV and eating hot fresh food over a couple of cold beers. Seriously, what is there to complain about? You don't like the fact that some poor b****** isn't hanging out in the bathroom to hand you a paper towel and pray you'll throw him a buck? They don't have a raw bar or cracked crab today? Some D-Bag isn't miked up in the corner shouting slam poetry about how society owes him a mercedes? How about real people, real food, real beer and a real good time where what you see is what you get and what you get is awesome! One of the last real bars in Fairfield County. Definitely don't go by withhout stopping in and I'm sure you'll be a huge fan!

This place is the WORST. I went there once with a friend because it was the only place in walking distance, the crowd was old drunks and the staff was NOT friendly. Again I was visiting my friend and they wanted to go again this time our friend who is in the army was with us. They would NOT let him in the bar with this military ID. They said they only accept state of CT. HELLO he is severing our country and have his military ID which has a chip in it pretty hard to fake and a CA ID and all his credit cards in his name and still you won't let him in. NO THANKS IF YOU DONT SUPPORT THEM MEN AND WOMEN WHO DEFEND OUR COUNTRY THEN I WILL NOT SUPPORT YOUR BUSINESS!
