You have to appreciate this spot for what it is . Craig and his wife are very hospitable. The food took and appropriate amount of time to be prepared as everything my wife and I ordered was freshly prepared. We ordered fried whiting / fried chicken / collard greens / rice and beans / fried pork chop / & shrimp . Literally everything we took a bite out of taste so amazing . I wasn't sure what to consume more of lol . The different flavors combined for such an exciting meal . The red beans with rice is definitely a favorite of mine now & I would say the drive from Windsor was well worth it 10x . You won't be disappointed , give it a try .

My colleague recommended this establishment. I tried calling but the phones didn't work. I drove 30 minutes to get to the restaurant. Upon arriving the person in the front told me they were closing.(I arrived at 7:15pm). I asked about the 8pm closing time I saw online and he said they were running out of food. I had fried chicken, Mac and cheese and candied yams. The fried chicken was very good. Mac and cheese very cheese kind of bland and candied yams were the sweetest / sugar yams I ever had. I took away two points for customer service, ambience and cornbread. The cornbread was stale and OLD. The most disgusting cornbread I've had in my life. I asked for hot sauce and the guy said they didn't have any. Instead he recommended honey. What !?!? I went to sit down while they were cooking the food and the chair was wobbling while I was sitting. I moved to another and the same thing happened. The restaurant has a lot of potential with the food but that's about it.

Visited this place for the first time after reading the reviews and lets just say we were not disappointed. Upon arrival you can tell that this establishment is a new and upcoming business as the inside appears to be undergoing some renovations. We had the mac and cheese with fried whiting and the smoothered porkchops with red beans and rice. Can you say finger licking good?? The fish was fresh and the porkchops justes melted in your mouth. I mean seriously, the food was amazing. Not to mentioned that the cornbread was delivered to our table nice and hot! It was well worth the 35 min drive. I would recommend this place to anyone who want some good old southern home cooking, delivered to your table quickly and with a smile!

The red beans and rice were delicious!!!Ordered jerk chicken but got fried chicken but it was juicy and catfish was good as well. The cornbread is too dry for our tastes and the macaroni and cheese wasn’t flavorful.

We just had dinner here for the first time tonight. It was delicious. Reminded me of my two southern grandma:s cooking. We had the fried chicken meal that came with three sides so that we could try everything. Then we tried dessert too. Highly recommend. We can't wait to go back and try the fried catfish and jerk chicken. But first we have to eat all our leftovers!!

I drove 1 hour and 15 minutes to get here with my wife. Definitely worth the trip. The food was delicious and service was great and there was a constant flow of people coming in to pick up orders. This place is definitely worthy of the best soul food in Connecticut title. Check it out. You wont be disappointed.

Very odd building uninviting we where going to eat lunch there and lady just handed us a to go bag when we where sitting at a table ....the food ugg my jerk chicken had great flavor but it was like they cooked it smashed it with a hammer and put it in the dish !!! Nothing but bone shards unacceptable and not able to eat it. Mac and cheese was warm at best and a clump the corn muffin as dry as an Arizona desert...my buddy said his friend chicken was ok equivalent to 7-11 would not recommend also no waffle batter for chicken and waffles!!

For real southern food without all the New England fuss and frill. Awesome fried chicken, fried whiting, the black eye peas are a total match to what I expect in flavor. Could have filled up on the cornbread. Service was warm and generously hospitable.Makes me miss my time in the south, but helps while I can't be there. Thank you for the desserts. We took a menu because we Will be back.

Easy to find with directions. Heard so much about the establishment and decided to give them a try on a Sunday. Honest Review: Staff was pleasant upon arrival and throughout. 3 people ahead of me. Placed 2 orders - Jerk Pork/Whiting combo with Mac & Cheese, Cabbage and a side of Fried Okra- Fried chicken/Fried Shrimp combo with Mac & Cheese and CollardsEverything that was Fried was Fried too hard to where there was little meat left inside. Jerk Pork and ALL SIDES were so heavily salted that both meals had to be thrown out. Side order of Okra said 8oz but was given a burnt 1oz. I really wanted this experience to be all the rave especially from seeing previous reviews. I took 2 of their menus for possible catering but ended up throwing them in the trash.I will not be returning ☹️.
