Our experience was very positive. Decent food and good drinks. It was a cold day during the week and there weren't many people around. We had a very romantic evening

I do not like to write bad reviews, but sadly this was likely one of the worst experiences at a restaurant. Their menu looked great and it was on the water. We made a reservation, but when we arrived they sat us in the corner of the bar by the window. We ordered appetizers and drinks and they were delivered promptly. The homemade garlic bread was delicious! After that, it was crickets. We had ordered our main entrees before our appetizers arrived and waited over an hour for the meal to arrive. We checked in with the waitress a few times who said it was coming. Then three out of four entrees arrived. The burger and fries were cold and we found a hair in the burger so we stopped eating it. The lobster roll was more bun than lobster and had no butter as described on the menu, but the fries were hot. The rigatoni bolognese was cold. About 10 minutes later the Kennebunkport Cod came to our table. The cod was hot, but the risotto was cold. We complained to the manager who said they were really short-handed that night and offered us a discount, but really should have comped us the main entrees. The restaurant was packed when we first arrived, but by the time our food arrived the restaurant was half empty, wondering why the long delay. Another table near us arrived 30 minutes after us and received their food long before us. It was an epic fail for our party and will likely not return. We drove over an hour to eat here, too. I hope this was just a one-off for this restaurant as it has great potential. Good luck!

We went here for a great friend's birthday ! Made reservations and sat outside. The view was great, it was a bit windy so definitely felt some cold air. We tried a few different drinks, the cocktails are not great at all. I asked originally for a pink sangria that I saw online on their website, didn't have it. So I asked for a white sangria they gave me a sugar and spice one it was ok to say the least, then I tried a sex on the river. If you like STRONG DRINKS go with that one. I had to ask to put some sprite because it was crazy strong. Chloe was our server. Everyone ordered at the same time, waited about 20/25 minutes three plates came out except mine, I had to wait about an extra 15 minutes, which I found upsetting. Don't get me wrong the food was delicious but just sad we expect our food to come out all at the same time or atleast I wouldn't have mind waiting 4 or 5 minutes. But 15 minutes was too much, my friends kept waiting for me and their food was getting cold. I felt so bad and it wasn't even my fault. One of the owners was going around when we first got there, she should of came after so I could of told her all of this.Parking: Great parking! Just head into the building and head to the back there is another restaurant before the river so don't get confused. Just keep walking to the back !

The River was one of my favorite restaurants until my horrible experience at their annual Easter Bunch. The quality of the food was poor and tasteless. The bunch is combined with Tequila Rio Mexican Cantina, their neighbor restaurant. There were less food choices than last year and the Mexican restaurant offered only two of their cheapest dishes, cheese quesadillas and pork with rice. The waitress came to our table to get drink orders, as I using the restroom and never came back, I had to literally flag a gentleman down appearing to be management to order drink after waiting awhile for waitresses to check on us. The only dessert we were looking forward it was chocolate covered strawberries, they ran out of strawberries. I asked for a manager and she arrived at my table, starting off defensively before asking what the issue was. Upon leaving she, the manager, literally argued with me as if we were “on the block”.I’m just disappointed because it’s a nice venue and hopefully things improve.

Fabulous restaurant. First time here. Loved brunch. Our server Alicia, excellent. Attentive, but respectful to not hover. The fruit salad was the best I've ever had. I actually got a double order to go. Love it sliced as bite sized pieces. Steak and eggs were delish. Steak as good as any top shelf steak. Cooked to perfection. My California Benedict was delish. Cocktails were yummy. Can't wait to come back. Oh yes and the view is beautiful on the River. A secret little find. Thank you.

I have been to this restaurant multiple times over the last few years and, sadly, the food and drinks are always awful. I wish this restaurant was amazing because the location is lovely and staff are so so kind! I most recently visited for a comedy night (moved from City Steam) and drinks and food from the tequila cantina were not only awful but so expensive. I live in town and would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a good place to eat. So much potential but always falls severely short despite numerous attempts to enjoy this location. I hope they do improve as the view of the river is lovely. Wish them luck but food and especially for the price they’re asking is not worth it. Spend your money at the Charles instead.

Had dinner here with co-workers on a Tuesday evening. It was not very busy and the service was horrible. Food was okay, but not good enough to make up for the terrible experience we had. Half of the table received their food about an hour before the others. We asked to speak with the manager and after waiting several more minutes she came out and only apologized for the delay. No offer was made to try and make things right with either slightly discounted meals or a dessert. We left feeling very unappreciated as guests.
