EXTREMELY RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL!! Me, my girlfriend and our friend were literally CURSED OUT by the waitress serving outside. We went and sat down at a table outside. She came over to take our order and asked for IDs. I didn't have mine, but I also have a full beard of gray hair, no way I could be underage. The waitress said "You all have to leave immediately". Our friend jokingly stated...well what if we show you "an" id??? And I said, I just wouldn't drink alcohol. At this point the waitress became belligerent and started cursing and stated "GET THE F&%@ OFF OF MY PATIO!! I'm not gonna lose my job for you people!!!" "You're asking me to break the law...GET THE F@#$# OUT!!" Mind you she was screaming in front of all the other patrons including one who had a child outside. So how is it a child is allowed on the patio, but I'm not just because I didn't have an id??? I said I wouldn't drink and even if our party couldn't stay, there is no way we should've been addressed that way. Needless to say we will be letting EVERYONE we know to AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!! One rude waitress is going to cost this place THOUSANDS of dollars!

Great hip little bar. Service is excellent. No beer no wine just rum. Very cool place to hang out.

Went for happy hour last week. Love that this casual, laid back bar allows outside food. The drinks were pretty good and not terribly expensive by DC standards. Service was quick at like 6:30 on a Friday and the bartenders were all super nice. Nice music selection and - this is going to make me sound so old - it wasn't too loud.

Rude, uppity staff. Drinks are over priced. They charge a mandatory tip despite giving bad service. Drinks are just ok. Don’t recommend.

Nestled in the Union Market District, this open-air bar exudes a welcoming individuality. The bartenders create a friendly atmosphere, complemented by great music. The spacious layout, complete with an oversized skylight, provides a perfect setting to unwind with any-sized group. The bar's beauty lies in its hexagonal light wood design adorned with wildlife pictures, perfect for cocktail pics. The ambience is matched by the quality of the cocktails, which range from premade options to frozen drinks and freshly mixed concoctions. Whether you're catching up with friends or looking to meet new people, this spot is a dope spot in Union Market.

Cotton&Reed has been a pleasant experience up until last night. My good girlfriend and I went to have drinks and received good service in the beginning. When we were ready to close the tab, I handed the bartender(Reesie) my card…&she stated to me to see if there was a lock on my card because it said “declined” but it was a lot of emphasis on her words.I was very surprised just as anyone would be that knew money was in their account but I checked it anyway and confirmed that there was no lock and funds available to pay for our $30 drinks. My card had read “declined” again so when she handed it back to me she says “It’s declined, I mean I was trying to be nice about it” and then followed up with nasty facial expressions….and again, her tone was disgusting. I don’t understand how you can be nice about anything when your demeanor and tone is unpleasant. My friend ended up paying and we went to move our car so that we can get a closer spot due to wanting another drink. We went back to have one more drink and was serviced by the bar manager(Britt) which was a decent experience. Once we were done, we left and realized that Reesie(the first bartender) came behind us asking “is there a problem, I’m off the clock” as if she wanted fight, my friend and I exchanged words with her but it did not get anywhere which led us to go back into the bar and asked to speak with Britt.Britt came out and listened to our concerns but was not accepting to them AT ALL. She stated that she did not experience any unprofessionalism from her staff after she allowed her staff to leave from behind the bar in the middle of her work shift and serving customers to pretty much adult previous paying customers! She told my friend and I “well I’m sorry you feel that way”. This experience was very tasteless, rude, nasty, unprofessional, unpleasant, and disrespectful. We will never spend our money here again and I hope that this review gets to the top since it could not be properly handed last night.

I LOVE THIS BAR. Get the Cocomotion and the rum negroni. Loud, vibey, good strong drinks. Cocktails $10-14. Don't come if you can't handle a crowd.

The most uptight staff and customer service I have experienced. Staff was rude, stuckup, and not welcoming. Came with coworkers and they left everyone with a horrible experience. Will not be coming back.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place before. Maybe because I didn't want to share my favorite place. It's like Cheers coming in here! The vibe is nice no matter what day you come, the music and the bartenders are the reason why this is literally my favorite bar in this area. Also the drinks, you can't pick a bad one. You should attended a distillery tour to find out their process and what makes rum distilleries so special

Makers of some of the best rum I've ever had. Signing up for the tour/tasting is a surprisingly great bang-for-your-buck since you get plenty of mini-shots, a free ~$15 cocktail, and 20% off any purchased bottles (which you should do). Great activity to do with friends/a date.

Nice spot. Good drinks. It is hard to bring people here as it's rum only and I did have a bartender who wouldn't tell me on a slow night how he made a drink I wanted to buy a bottle of rum for which was an odd sales tactic.

Classic concrete bunker. A timeless experience.
