from trying multiple ethiopian places in NYC this was easily the best!!! The atmosphere was quaint & warm, the waitress was welcoming and very attentive & the food was phenomenal. AND by the end of you have any room for dessert - get the chocolate mousse pyramid (amazing)

I came here for dinner on 4/28/24 around 5pm and was provided with horrible service. I requested to sit on the patio which was empty when we arrived (the inside had one table at this point). When I requested to sit in the shade I was told that we could not because it was a three person table not two person even though the chair was was just at the end could have been removed to the other table. We proceeded to sit down directly in the sun and be flatly ignored for 15 minutes. When a server came to finally provide us water, we told her we were ready to order and while she initially started taking our order halfway through informed us she was in fact not the server. Another 10 minutes go by and finally our designated server comes by to take our order. When I ordered an appetizer and a beer and informed her I would order dessert at the end because we had heard how delicious the dessert was she visibly look disgusted and rolled her eyes at me that I had not ordered a main. My companion ordered the veggie mixed platter and a beer. The food was delicious and the ambiance on the patio was nice which is why I will give two stars. I will note there was a different sever who did stop by once and ask how the food was (unfortunately I do not know her name). However the attitude of the other server was completely uncalled for and I will not be returning because of the negative service that was provided.

The food was good, I ordered the vegetarian dish. I didn't really know I should eat with my hands, when I asked for a fork the waitress seemed furious. The service needs training. Every time he served some water he spilled water on the table and didn't bother to clean it up or apologize.

I've been coming to Das for years. As an out of town patron, I'm never disappointed. The staff is excellent and the food is superb. Always a wonderful experience. Thank you!

Not your usual Ethiopian restaurant. Unlike the places in Adams-Morgan I went to years ago this food is "less hardy," not overpowered meaning you can actually taste the various spices in the food. It's more like an Ethiopian version of haut cuisine. I recommend that you go with a few friends, order the vegetarian sampler and then add a meat and a fish dish. Eat it family style on top of a large piece of injera and be sure to eat with your fingers. (The restaurant supplies as many white napkins as you need.) The Ethiopian wine is also very interesting and very sweet. Service is excellent. The setting is a small tastefully decorated room with white tablecloths giving it a nice upscale appearance. This place says they are entered in the Michelin Guide and they deserve to be. Oh, and don't forget to eat the injera under all the food. It soaks up all those sauces. . .

Amazing gem of a place. Food to service was stellar. Ask for the real Injeera to truly enjoy the cuisine, and not the American version. The vege sampler dish, chicken doro vat and lean beef tips were perfectly cooked, and packed with flavor!

The food here tastes great and the portion is very big, and the value-to-money is great. Servers were all really nice and they could get the food to us pretty quickly. I also like the decoration of the restaurant, which gives me some kind of fine-dining feeling with a way cheaper price.

Great food and attentive service. Plenty of options for vegetarians across all courses. The noise level gets very high though with a full house. It is not surprising given the cozy ambience of the place but still irks. I will look for a mid-week reservation the next time around and avoid Fridays / weekends.

The experience with the host at the door gave us pause. Did not feel welcoming. However, our experience only improved from there. Our server was lovely and the proprietor came around to all the tables to ensure that we were happy. We had sambusas for appetizers, which were fresh and delicious. I had the chicken doro wat and shared the collard greens with my husband. All was very flavorful, complex spice presentation. Some heat, but to my tastebuds (I love spice), not remotely too spicy. Definitely recommend.

Das Ethiopian in DC is amazing! The atmosphere is welcoming, and the staff is super friendly. The food is a flavor explosion, especially the Doro Wat and the vegetarian dishes. Eating with injera adds a fun and authentic touch. Highly recommend for a unique and tasty experience!

I feel like I am eating at a family-owned restaurant whenever I eat at DAS. The vegetarian options are excellent and the service was very good, Please do not miss Grandmother Cake at the end!
