Absolutely incredible food. Went here on a friend's recommendation, best meal we've had in the US. Grits and shrimp, mac n cheese, peach cobbler - all incredible. Solid vegetarian options. Staff were super friendly and helpful.Only thing to note is that the U street address is takeaway only.Vegetarian options: Many sides are veg friendly, enough for a feast.

Best part for me was the people and atmosphere. I feel like I could just hangout at the restaurant for hours. Everyone that works here is cool.The food was ok. I ordered the fried whiting fish meal with green beans (really good, just a bit overcooked) and collard greens (too sweet, prefer acidic). I also ordered the blackened shrimp which I wish were cooked more and slightly more salty and buttery.Lastly, the push cobbler which I wish the crust wasn't super soft and harder. Tasted a bit soggy.Overall though the place is nice but the food was mid in my opinion.

first I called thinking it was the location by Walmart but it wasn't. k tried to order online but the web wanted a review before ordering which i thought was odd. guy that answered let me know I couldn't order over phone. and I should do the review. oh well needless to say I just walked in and to my surprise I would've ordered from this location and went to the wrong one. however I was pleasantly pleased with the hot food out on the line letting me know i wouldn't be waiting long. that was Friday today is Sunday and I returned for more and a nice customer paid for my food and all he wanted was a cup of ice. look at GOD. Friday I had the 2 meat beef short ribs and wings. thought it would've been full wings like at the other location but that was when i ordered wings only not a plate. with my favs greens and yams which are whipped by the way. so today was greens yams and cabbage since im doing steaks tonight. i live in Houston and when I'm in town oohs and aahs got me..

I have been here two times now, and both times I have enjoyed my experience. Today I wanted to try something different and got the fried catfish and grits....MAN, THE FLAVOR WAS ON POINT! When you walk in they are nice creating a welcoming atmosphere! I'll be back!

Yesterday evening I came and we spent around $30 for the Rib dinnerIt was amazing!!I came back 2 min later and brought 2 slices of cake strawberry and lemon for $16 and they tasted staleJust wanted to give this feedback because the food was amazing but the deserts were lack luster a bit

Some of the staff members are very disrespectful and have and nasty disposition. I will never go back there.
They are listed as Dine-in and carry out. They really are just carry out. There is no where to sit. The server had an attitude out of this world. We brushed it off and ordered our food. The food looked good and the price was fair. When we got home and tasted the food, it made the bad attitude and sketchy location all worth it!! I didn’t see an old grandma in the kitchen but she definitely cooked it!! Nothing was left on anyone’s plate. I would definitely take the risk to go back again!!!!!
