I only stopped by for a quick dessert and got the mango sticky rice! It was really good and fresh. The server cut the mango in front of me at the bar and the coconut milk and sesame seeds on top of the rice were great! They also refilled my water and checked in to see if everything was okay. The workers are very nice and it came out quick. It is a bit dark inside and located at a crowded dc area. I'm not sure about parking but it was a close walk from Rhode Island Avenue on the red line!

Food is not consistent. The sweet and sour sauce is horrible. I had the papaya salad with shrimp and only received two which was a waste of money. I think the food is inconsistent. The spring rolls had no meat and the calamari was tough. But the drinks from the bar are good and I am talking about the non alcoholic. The pad Thai tasted like sugar noodles.Update: They upgraded the menu and after supporting them I have noticed their portions are getting smaller. They add a tip automatically so pay attention to your bill. There are some dishes that have sauce and meat and no veggies. Most of the appetizers are not quality I tried a few and was left wishing I did not eat it. Place is not as great as I thought for the price. Lunch is a decent deal but comes out to 20 dollars for everything and starts at 11.95.

Happy Hour prices are great; however, service is HORRIBLE. My waitress had a language barrier, which wasn't an issue for me; however, she ordered something I had only inquired about and (I guess) got mad when she brought the item to me and I informed her I did not order it. There wasn't even an issue after she took the item back, just a misunderstanding, so I thought. For the rest of my time there, I watched her check on her other tables and completely SKIP over me. EVERY SINGLE TIME. She NEVER came back to my table, not even to give me my bill. I had to ask someone else for it. It was the rudest thing ever. Will not be returning!!!

I first started dining at Sala Thai restaurant back in 2018 at the Minnesota Ave location, where I instantly fell in love with their chef fried rice and crispy calamari, among other menu items. When I moved to NE, I made the Rhode Island Row location my new go-to spot and have been a regular visitor ever since, indulging in their delicious Thai iced tea and sushi rolls almost daily. My absolute favorite dish is the Mei Fun (without pork or seafood), and I also enjoy their tofu with spicy basil fried rice, curry puffs, spring rolls, and an assortment of specialty rolls. Lately, I've noticed a significant improvement in their interior, menu offerings, and the quality of service, making my dining experience even more enjoyable. I highly recommend paying them a visit for a delightful culinary experience.

Note: This review is based on a delivery / takeout order, so focused exclusively on the food and not the service / ambiance.Although I was a little hesitant about the less-than-stellar reviews, I was recently desperately craving some Thai food and UberEats had a 30% off deal for this place that was just too good to pass up. And, wow, am I glad I took the risk! I was SUPER happy with everything that I ordered, and it absolutely satisfied my need for a bit of spicy, holy basil-infused comfort in a bowl.I ordered their pad see ew with vegetables and shrimp, papaya salad, and mango sticky rice -- each dish was fantastic, and they had generous portions; this was plenty of food for 2-2.5 meals. I put everything at their "regular" spice level, which didn't seem to be super consistent across their dishes. The pad see ew was hardly spicy, while the papaya salad made me run for a glass of water. The pad see ew was nearly perfect -- it had a great balance of spicy, sweet, and savory flavor profiles, and the noodles were soft but still slightly chewy. The veggies were fresh and crisp, and the shrimp was juicy and plump with a great touch of char from the wok. The noodles were a bit more oily than I generally prefer, but it was still a great dish overall! And the noodles paired perfectly with the light, refreshing papaya salad (requested without peanuts because I'm allergic). The papaya, carrot, and green beans were all super fresh and had a great crunch. They went wonderfully with the salty, sweet, sour, and spicy dressing, and the tomatoes offered a great extra little pop of freshness! This dish takes its spice a bit more seriously than the other items on the menu, so either have a glass of water ready or order it slightly milder level. After a delicious (and slightly spicier than expected) meal, the mango sticky rice was the perfect way to wrap up this comforting dinner. The rice was perfectly sticky but not mushy, and it was sweet, but not overly so, from the coconut milk / sugar. This was all topped with a lovely sliced mango, which was at the perfect level of ripeness to offer a refreshing, natural sweetness as well as a slight sour kick to balance out the rest of the dessert. I also loved the way they arranged the two mango halves to look like a heart -- so cute! All in all, I was thoroughly impressed by Sala Thai! Every dish was delicious and super well-executed -- I can't wait to try out the rest of their menu in-person!

I've walked past this place a dozen times and wondered if their food was good. Today, I was craving pork fried rice so much that I decided to stop in for carry out. I called the order in and the person over the phone was very kind and efficient, she said it would only be 10 minutes. When I arrived inside the food was all ready to go and she told me the price. I was shocked by what she said and had to ask her to repeat herself. I don't know if it's been crazy long since I've had to go Asian food but I was shook that the rice came up to $17. I can see why it's priced that way kind of but I just know I won't be back for rice at that price. All I knew that the rice would be different since it's coming from a Thai spot however the taste and presentation kind of threw me off because I'm used to something different. The rice wasn't bad ... it's just different. The pork is pretty large and there's tomatoes in the rice. Unfortunately I probably won't be back however the staff was very nice. Thank you

Food: The food was excellent. Served hot and fast. I had the crab fried rice and calamari. Both were outstanding, special mention for the calamari dipping sauce.Service: The service was friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. They suggested the calamari and were very patience (too many good options).Atmosphere: The tables and floor were clean, light music in the background, lights appropriately dimmed.General disposition: Chilled, definitely go again.Rating: J 5 Star
