I’m not too adventurous with beers, but there are a couple here that I like. My wife and I come here for lunch/dinner and the chefs do a great job. I recently tried their pimento cheese burger - it was fresh, juicy, and melty goodness. The cheese board appetizer was simple and delicious, and my wife liked her chicken pasta. It’s a cool place for family, dates, and single folks alike since there are plenty of tables, a nice outdoor patio, and an extremely long bar.

On Good Friday my mom & I went into Middletown to go to the local Farmers Market but they were closed. Being that it was around lunchtime I decided to go to First State because I read that it was the best new brewery in the country. My mom didn't want to because as she told me she doesn't drink beer, but I managed to convince anyway. While it did take a little longer than what we probably would've liked to get seated the hostess was a dream. I didn't think we were going to stay because mums didn't find anything she wanted to eat but the hostess kindly talked her into staying & we both ended up getting the avocado smashed burgers & they were fantastic. The hostess was even nice enough to swap out beans that my mom thought were too spicy. I'm not personally much of a beer drinker but I'd for sure would go back there again. Service really makes a difference in this day & age, & the service we got there made all the difference.

Was very disappointed with the service and the food. We had to ask if she would take our order, when food arrived it was cold unacceptable.i spilled my glass of beer cleaning the table. I had to look for her to give me paper towels to clean it! She never helped clean it up I had to do it the customer. She never offered to replace my drink. Nothing!

The beer is good. Wine choices are limited to red blend and white blend. Food is so/so. Won't be in a hurry to return.

A great place to stop if you are heading by Wilmington Delaware or northeast Maryland.We liked the more retro stylish interior. They have a good selection of beers and we really liked them, especially the dark ones we tried.The place is clean and staff were all friendly. There is a nice large patio to relax on during nicer weather.All the food looked great. The brisket poutine was really good and very filling.

Excellent food, brews and atmosphere. An actual brewery with a large selection of beers as well as other craft drinks. Gets crowded on the weekends and some evenings so be prepared to wait with a beer until a table is ready. Worth the wait so try it out

Very nice brewery. They are very active in bringing new stuff every week. Iron Hill used to be better with food, but First State is doing better food now. Worth trying as they have lots of options.

Beers are good, food was good when brewery first opened but has not been as good lately. On our last visit, my wife wanted to sub ranch instead of Gorgonzola dressing on buffalo chicken sandwich and was told it would be $1.5 upcharge for ranch ... We were able to get the ranch comped but the situation left my wife unhappy and she will not be returning. She used to go almost weekly until this incident.
This is my first time here. I come on business every few weeks and decided to try it out. The food was so good! Some of the best wings I have ever had and the blackened chicken Caesar salad was huge and I ate it all it was so good. You need to come here!

Pulled pork sandwich was delicious! A perfect 10. Hubby had the OG Burger and baked beans. The beans were loaded with pork and a little spicy but we enjoyed them. Beer was fresh and cold. Good tunes on the playlist. Chairs are a little hard on the rump. Our server was very friendly, food was delivered hot! Paige was a delight...we will be back.

I'm glad I found this place. Only a few minutes walk from the truck stop. Multiple options of their own drinks, fairly priced food, and beautiful servers. One thing every great place with a happy hour should have on their reviews is their happy hour schedule. So here it is...

Visited here last Friday 1/12 on our way to NJ and everything was beautifully crafted! From the menu to the design and layout of the space and of course especially the beer! We sampled a few different IPAs and all were top notch! We tried a grilled cheese with scrapple which was wonderful! The staff was super friendly too! If you’re in Delaware make sure you stop by!
