I drove all the way from Arcadia on a Monday.. I arrived at this location 10 minutes til 5. Online it states that they are open until 8pm. So imagine my surprise after driving an hour away with mouth watering OxTails on my mind just to arrive and the establishment is closed! Please update your hours of operations. I'm completely inconvenienced by this trip. Any reason why y'all closed 3 hours early today?

I was feeling for some good Caribbean soup, search and found Islands Choice in Avon Park. Order a Large Chicken soup, paid $7.50.. At first glance, the color seems pale white, a little slimy like it came from a Soup can, with some added Boil chicken wings with a few pieces of roll up dumplings. Wow, I am surprised of the fairly good reviews. Highlands county being such a small-town vs. larger counties. I know your restaurant choices are limited and you have to settle for less. I like to support small business and I don't like leaving negative reviews, but this was an embarrassment to Jamaican food (soup). Where are the carrots, the yam, potatoes, green banana, corn, pumpkins, peas, chocho, vegetable, flesh thyme, the rich flavor, etc. all the good ingredients and flavor you found in a food authentic Jamaican soup dish.?! I didn't buy any other dish, so can't attest to the other dishes. I only hope the owner/chef will take the time out to review these feedbacks and make some positive proactive changes. Normally I would be asked if I want any gravy on my rice, but being a usual I don’t ask for gravy on my rice. I only asked for the sides and I was served jerk chicken with curry gravy on my rice underneath my jerk chicken and it tasted nasty due to it having curry with it. I had this same issue 3 years ago and it seems nothing has changed it felt like it was a call in order and someone did not come pick up their curry chicken order, I had to throw away the food and go to Maryland fry chicken for food

Cute little place, seems to be a local owned and run business. The beef patties are exactly what i needed them to be, not overly spicy (looking at you goldenkrust with a giant scotch bonnet left in whole) and not overly salty. We went around noon and it was about a 15 minute wait to get 2 patties, so don't expect to be in and out quickly during busy times. Cute seating area and don't squish the bread.Coming back for the goat, I love kijan nou fe sos viand cabrit and other goat dishes so curry goat with rice and peas has me in a lock. Can't wait to try this place again.

Me and my auntie wanted to visit island Choice because it's were my mom had taken me when I was 11 before her passing, we came back years later to the same place and it was still the greatest thing a had ever tasted. There ox tails were seasoned right there rice was steamed and there cabbage fresh I've never been so alive to come back here There drinks were cold and fresh as well For new people that visit Florida I Recommend coming here for a good Jamaican food experience. 10/100
