If you want AUTHENTIC Mexican food, try this place!!! Maria and her grandfather ran the front of the house. She explained the menu to us and helped us choose our Cinco de Mayo meal(It was our first visit). Our meal was scrumptious and Maria was spot on. We will definitely be back. I don’t like leaving negative reviews, at all. I tried this place out and I would not recommend it, the photo below is what $18 got me. 3 Gorditas with a spoonful of bland, unseasoned meat and soggy potatoes, they would have been acceptable had the been packed with flavor and ingredients, but they weren’t. I was still hungry after I left - there are no menus with photos aside from one hanging on the wall with 2 pictures. I will never be back nor will I recommend this place to anyone, there is much better Mexican food to be had, I should have followed my instincts on this one. The only redeeming quality is the friendliness of the girl who works there

Fantastic food and service. Family owned and operated. Everything made in-house. Don't go spend the same money at a chain "Mexican" restaurant that serves low-quality, americanized food. This local business needs support more than a Peppers or Pedro'

Finally tried El Torreonense for the first time. Service was very friendly and the server, who is something of a local celebrity, talked with me about the menu and gave me recommendations. I took her advice and got three gorditas with three different fillings to try a range of flavors. They were all good but the one that stood out most was the gorditas filled with cooked cactus. Turns out cactus is pretty good. If you are worried about it being spicy, never fear because I detected no heat. The sauces that came on the side were tasty. Drinks were a selection of bottled or canned beverages you can pick out of the cooler yourself. Apple soda is the best if you ask me. As for the attached photo, I forgot to take a picture until I had chowed down on the first gorditas.

I want to love this place because the young lady that greets you at the door is SO sweet. However, we tried this place a few days ago and it was by far one of the worst foods I've had in FWB. It seemed like it was sitting a long time or something. We ordered the gordita with potatoes and the picadillo. Perhaps I have just not had this type of meat before but it looked really bad upon opening. The taste was okay but seemed like it was old. They did not serve chicken or didnt have it when we were there. Again, I want to like this place bc it is a little family business but I will not be returning unfortunately.
