I read the recent reviews and can't believe it . I've been here four times since they reopened and it gets worse every time today I ordered three specialty tacos and honestly they were the worst tacos I've ever eaten in my life my Hawaiian taco the pork was black all the way through so hard you couldn't bite through it , the shrimp taco did they claim is mayport shrimp were cold but they seem more like the Frozen farm raised shrimp you buy in Walmart and the American Taco the ground beef was flavorless , I started coming into Casa Maria when they first opened here I don't know 15 or 20 years ago and it was always good then for some reason they closed down for about a year or more and since they've reopened the food has never been the same and it's worse every time I went in there , the last time I ate here I told myself I never come back but my grandson wanted to go get Mexican food so I thought I'd try one more time but honestly it's the worst Mexican food I've ever tasted it's a disgrace they should close their doors or get new managers and new cooks or buy their food somewhere else cuz it is absolutely terrible I read some of the reviews before I posted this one and I just can't believe them they must be posting reviews themselves I couldn't recommend this place to anyone I vote this place worst Mexican food in Jacksonville maybe Florida I've never tasted any Mexican food this bad in my whole life and I'm 57 years old and whenever you tell them their food is not good they act like they know it and you're preaching to the choir they must make all their money off of liquor from people going up there drinking alcohol cause the food totally sucks doesn't matter what I get it's going to suck . The rice and french fries and sweet tea were good but they're specialty tacos were terrible absolutely terrible I used to love this place before they closed down for a year or two but since they reopened it just gets worse and worse I'll never go back again . This is the honest post not like the other ones you're going to read they have to be lies posted by people that work there .

Great place! We come here a couple of times a month. Every time has been great. Food is always hot and delicious. Our server Ricky is always top notch. And don’t forget the 32 ounce Margarita’s! The whole crew does a great job with a great atmosphere. Highly recommend this place!

Was eager to try casa maria after reading good reviews. Entered, seemed nice, kinda loud with music, people eating seemed to enjoy their meals. Friday just after 4 pm. Waiting to be greeted and seated. Waiting, waiting. Time moves so slow. Girl across room at register near bar. Waiter passed in front of me, avoids eye contact, services a table and walks back to bar. No one greeted me. I look neat, not a bum. Figure it's not me, it's them. Breaking up was easy to do. Turned around and left. Sure they didn't miss me. No one knew I was there. Glanced at my reflection in nearby window. Yep, not invisible. There I was! Going to another Mexican restaurant now.

Never let me down, good food, good prices. Love their margaritas, and beer practically by the gallon. Great team and nice servers. I've been going here for 6 years and I have never had an issue with quality of food or portion size.

The food was terrible. I'm not sure how to mess up Mexican food, but this was by far the worst I've had in my life. Soggy chicken, lacking flavor and everything was so bland. The tacobirria was fatty pork and lacked much flavor at all. The dipping sauce was really bad also. The only positives I had were that the salsa was good and spicy, and the queso was pretty decent. We won't be back, that's for sure.

I'm from PR, wife is Mexican, can tell there a lot of Mexican restaurant at Jax for some reason. But this is a 5/5 one. Food is great, specials are awesome, price is phenomenal, service is super. If you go there for a quick lunch, it can be a quick one, because they serve fast. Owner is present most of the time and you can tell he cares, that is 100% the difference from other places.P.D. the best refried beans, hands down, just like my mother in law from Jalisco.Best Mexican rest at JAX hands down.

This is the best Mexican restaurant I have found in Jacksonville/ St Augustine. The service was good, the food was excellent and the portions were huge. We rarely have left overs but came home with 1/2 of our dinner. The manager, Brian, stopped by and was friendly. The place was packed and I can see why. Well done!

Seemed like more of a bar than a restaurant. Only a couple LOUD people at the bar. Not that big a deal. It just didn't "sound" family-friendly.

Here in N Florida it's challenging finding decent and authentic Mexican food. I would say Casa Maria is as close to authentic as you can get in Jacksonville/St John's county. In my top 3 (given my bias and experience growing up in Southern Cali), would be 1. Mr Taco 2. Casa Maria 3. La Nopolera - Top 3 in Jacksonville is not too shabby.I will say that the biggest clue that this place is legit Mexican, is that during lunch time on any given day, the place is packed with large groups of Mexicans of all walks of trade coming in to enjoy - that's proof in of itself
